  1. I try to be open minded but......yote kabobs.....yote stew.....yote parmesan.......yote marsala..... Instructions: Throw all the ingredients in a crock pot and let them cook for about 48 hours. After it's done, feed it to your mother-in-law and tell her it's venison.
  2. The clerk was actually the ONLY one who acted and took the rifle from them, the managers weren't even on the same page and totally blew it. They had their hands full with the family and should have called 911 for help as they were in WAY over their heads immediately....I didn't see what, if anything had transpired at the front entrance. But if anyone tried to stop them I am sure they were given the same profanity laced response and they entered the store with gun in hand right past the front employees.... No word back from Dick's administration yet....
  3. Great store near me except for one dolt that work there. Other than that I get my dog food, chainsaw supplies and love the "dollar" bins near the registers... Always walk away with some light, tool or gadget that I simply must buy.....
  4. YOTE ! It was for dinner.....................Still trying to wrap my head around eating a dog.......
  5. There is such peace and enjoyment about being afield....... Enjoy your day !!!
  6. Well said and yes it was very fortunate no one was injured, very sad and gives lawful, responsible gun owners another BLACK EYE in the public's view. In any potential situation call 911 and start the response of enforcement, one can always and correctly modify that response accordingly if the situation escalated or modifies from the initial call....
  7. One would have hoped that was the case and in a perfect word that might have happened. That is part of what was so DISTURBING. 1. when she came past the front register with a rifle and failed to stop for assistance the STORE should have called 911 2. when the disturbance escalated into shouting profanity and being disorderly in the back of the store SOMEONE should have called 911 3. when they began to bully, threaten and continue to be disorderly 911 should have been called and they be THROWN out the door by law enforcement 4. people actually gathered to watch this unfold in the area of the gun counter and shelves of ammo for sale ! In a perfect word people should have GOTTEN THE HELL out of there. Not one employee was ready to deal with what could have been an active shooter situation, given the fact they had children with them or not it could have been very ugly in a hurry. This happened in a community that dare I say is sheltered from crime and one wouldn't have expected this to happen but NO ONE was prepared for this. Totally disturbing, I will never again leave my phone behind and while this was going on I placed a few rows of metal shelves between them and myself and was going to be a great witness. Law enforcement trains for these situations routinely, private citizens do not, obviously store employees have not and luckily cooler heads prevailed and the young clerk removed the rifle from harms ways !!! Almost 24 hours after I contacted Dick's management and I was promised a timely response within 24 hours I have not.......
  8. No one called from the store and when the crowd started forming the clerk had the gun behind the counter area safely away from the family. Yes, the gun counter is at the very rear of the store and she walked into the front entrance not only holding the long gun but screaming obscenities while holding cartridges and a magazine in her left hand. This clearly could lead to misdemeanor penal law charges of menacing, endangering the welfare of a minor and definitely disorderly conduct on both females. And......................no response from the Dick's administration with any comment on the entire event.
  9. I thought the New York Times voted him person of year ?? Oh........................MY BAD !!!!
  10. Thats some comic relief I needed right there !!!!
  11. Adding to this story; I sent a inquiry to Dick's this morning and as of yet failed to receive any response. I did appreciate that the young clerk waiting on me immediately abandon assisting me to get the rifle away from them and out of their reach. I had left my cell phone in my vehicle as I was "just running in" and didn't feel I needed to have it (never again). I was shocked that the managers didn't contact law enforcement at any point and both females could have easily been charged. The female waving the rifle around with ammo in hand had no idea what citizen in that store may have been legally armed and one would have been very-very justified to take action towards her to neutralize what was clearly an irate, and armed woman !! The show that they put on was clearly habit and their normal conduct of business and their children were taught a lesson by the woman.....Sad, but I am sure this will play out for them in their favor and they will continue to act that way again, and again...... The local sheriff's office has a substation in that mall right next to the store, so the chance of a speedy enforcement response was very likely......
  12. I was unfortunate to witness a most disturbing incident last night at the local Dick's Sporting Good. I was at the store to purchase a Savage bolt action .22 for my children as a Christmas present. The clerk waiting on me and I were starting the paperwork and when he received a communication on their radio that a woman just entered the store with a rifle and didn't stop at customer service as required and was walking to the rear of the store. Next appeared a very agitated and vocal young female with blond and purple hair at the back counter. The clerk said (very politely) that next time please stop at customer service and have a manager assist before walking into the store with a rifle. Her reply was "F**K That !, Your gonna take this f**king gun and ship it back). She placed the gun on the counter with NO REGARD to muzzle direction and had in her left hand a rifle magazine and several loose cartridges. She was about 20 years old and along with her was an older female (Mom) and three children of ages about 12 and under. The clerk smartly took the weapon off the counter where it had been placed pointing at other customers and placed it behind the counter safely. This female and her mother began to yell obscenities and were EXTREMELY disrespectful to the staff and manager who attempted to assist them. They insisted that the weapon was damaged and it be returned. Their "Daddy" bought the gun but was home on oxygen and couldn't make the 45 minute trip to return the gun. Their language was very offensive and conduct disorderly within the store. They produced a letter from the father and slapped it on the glass counter followed by a lengthy string of profanity. A manager arrived and told them that the weapon would not be received from them and attempted to walk them to the front with the rifle in his possession. They flat out refused and continued the profanity and anger directed at anyone within hearing range. A second manager then arrived and advised that the weapon would be shipped back and the store would accept the weapon from them. All while this was happening the mother and children were using the same profanity and clearly agitated at the staff. The oldest kid proclaimed at one point "if he has to come here for this s**t he ain't gonna be f**king happy !!" The female who brought in the weapon said " well, if you were f**king afraid of him on the phone. f**king wait if he has to come down here". I was shocked, saddened and ashamed for the incident. First their conduct was way out of line, secondly they were entirely unsafe and in today's society carrying a rifle and ammunition in hand into a store while shouting profanity is a great way to get yourself shot. I was also dismayed that Dick's didn't immediately contact law enforcement, retain custody of the weapon (until law enforcement took custody) and have them removed from the store. There was a crowd gather of customers watching this unfold.

  15. I only thought I was sad until I start cleaning my rifle, washing and hanging my clothing from the season. Now I am down right depressed... I long for the cabin, light snow and wind against my face, my beard filled with ice, long stalks into the woods, smell of evergreen swamps, the smell of black Adirondack mud.......Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... I need a therapist or buy something new for next year.....Any suggestions ?
  16. I always get sad when the season closes and its a little longer drive home. I miss so many things from camp in the fall from Thanksgiving dinner, woodsmoke and wandering around with the snow coming down. I hope all stay well and we get out in the big woods again next year... Happy Holidays..

  21. The 12 Golden rules for Safe Gun Handling Always treat the gun as loaded. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Always keep the gun unloaded until you are ready to use it. Never point the gun at anything you don't intend to destroy. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it. Learn the mechanical and handling characteristics of the gun you are using. Always use proper Ammunition. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before loading and shooting. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, hold your shooting position for several seconds; then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, carefully unload the gun. Don't rely on the gun's safety to keep it from firing. Be aware of your surroundings when handling guns so you don't trip or lose your balance and accidentally point and/or fire the gun at anyone or anything.
  22. Simple rule: one is responsible for the complete trajectory of that bullet from the time it exits the barrel....... If one can not ensure a completely safe path for that projectile, keep your finger off the trigger.....
