  1. 3.5 for the dense woods of Northern zone and 10 for open farm fields in the Southern zone and a great quality glass for the money.. I know I'll be happy at the range and field with this combo..
  2. Great looking piece of glass and a very reasonable price point.... Leupold VX-3i Rifle Scope 3.5-10x 40mm Matte
  3. I have burned out the drag on every Okuma I purchased chasing salmon/steelhead. I use the Diawa reels now; they are midrange in price and the drags hold up very well. I use them in Alaska and have NEVE had one fail. Nothing worse then having a great fish on and the reel destroy itself on a long run from a king. Buy quality now and enjoy it for years.....

    Steelhead

Steelhead !!!!!!!!!! Now your talking my language; ealy spring drop backs ready to eat MEAT as they attack big drifted flies. I use a 6wt with sink tip and florocarbon leader in varied weights as water clarity dictates. I like streamers and egg patterns in many different colors. I tie my own so have some crazy combinations. I hit the Salmnon as much as possible and a few tribs. This time of year the crowds are small and I can move along easily with the drift boat. Good luck and see you on the water.
  5. Scope shopping now !!!! I will add some range pictures when I get it completed....
  6. I am in fact getting the Remington and know they fit very well to my shooting form. It is light, fast and looks very durable.... Thanks all for a great discussion.... Dan
  7. Cell phones and bottled water.......................I guess for years we were lonley and thirsty. As in all things in moderation !!!!
  8. Welcome aboard here... Reside in Saratoga County and have an "off grid" camp in Hamilton County where I spend a good portion of my retirement life..... Dan
  9. If they want to grab up their marbles and leave the playground...so be it !!!!!
  10. The only shoveling I do is the path to the outhouse at camp....
  11. The 160 is a great size for the area I trap in the Adirondacks. If you use the 220 modify the size as long as you stay within the state regulations. Best of luck...
  12. Welcome aboard, great info here and sometimes entertaining to a fault.....
  13. That's what I love to see.....Adirondack bucks !!! Congrats....
  14. Good old Jamison's in a short glass with maybe two ice cubes sipped slowly................
  15. RIP Mannix... Absolutely love those older shows..
  16. Welcome aboard ! I'm North of you in Hamilton County, big woods, area of New York.... Dan
  17. If you know someone in the restaurant business they have available the big square plastic buckets for mayonnaise/pickles and they can be made to fit the DEC regulations. Some have white or green buckets...I have become a scrounge when it comes to free materials or bait (roadkill).
  18. I use 160 traps and tailored the measurements to fit, Just check out the New York State regulations on set back of the trap and finished door width. I make mine with 3 side and slats on the bottom because I trap in bear country and they tip them over and not tend to destroy them as quickly. If you use 110 traps old plastic mailbox tubes used by newspaper delivery carriers work nicely. Also check you- tube as there are numerous videos to view and good luck..
  19. Really nice job and it's great to see the friendship and cooperation here between members. Always nice to see family pictures and know the traditions are being passed along the generations.
  20. My Buckmark has the 5.5 inch barrel and I found a holster on Amazon some time ago. I believe it is an "Uncle Mike's" brand. I have the camper in camo and it's a fun, accurate and cool gun to shoot. I have some .22 ammo left around my gun room since that stuff was under $ 2.00 for 50 rounds. I have never had any issues with any brand of ammo and it's cycles cleanly. Good luck !!
  21. Buckmark is what I carry trapping. Good choice and enjoy!!
  22. Not only do I remember what they are I remember vividly what they smelled like after use.....
  23. If I walk out my camp door in Hamilton County and head into the woods I can go 75 miles and not cross any civilization. Most of it is state land and wide open in access. I grew up camping in the area and explore new "corners" to this day. If one enjoys "big woods" hunting and fishing it's out there; and you better know how to use a compass. I've never been lost but, dam it, have I been bewildered at times. When you learn the lay of the land the woods change season or suffer wind damage and the entire complexion looks different. There are lots of deer, bears and native brook trout to be found if you walk.
