  1. I agree with Steve863. All they had to do was assess the fee onto their property taxes. Even rural towns assess taxes on properties. If they don't pay the tax, the Town's recourse would be to foreclose on the lien and take the house away. But first responders are supposed to act first and then ask questions.
  2. I don't think my son would let me take it upstate with me. I would love to be able to take some up especially after its sits in its own juices for a couple of days. Yummy!!!!! Duh! Just reread your post . . . yes I'm planning on going up early early Saturday morning.
  3. I'm slow cooking pork today. Gonna be making pulled pork for dinner. Still need to kill me a deer before I can make venison stew . . .
  4. They could put the fire out and saved the house and then added the fee as an assessment on their taxes.
  5. Dom, what time is the stew gonna be ready??? I'll bring the wine!
  6. Looks like Medusa . . .
  7. Can't wait until this Sat to get back in my stand!!!

  8. I heard you can fatten them up by feeding them toaster waffles. Lmao.
  9. I don't get to go up very often as I live 2.5 hrs away. Depending on the weather, when I do go I plan on sitting all day. I even pack a "sangwitchie" as my Italian mother in law says and some other snacks. Unless of course I fill my tags early in the morning like I did with my 6pt last year. I'm going up early this Saturday and hoping to get into my stand by 9 - 10AM and planning on sitting all day.
  10. I prefer homemade wine but If I have to purchase it I usually stick with the Robert Mondavi Cabs (2007 Oakville Estates Cab is out of this world - $36/bottle) or Pinots.
  11. Condos in the woods . . . I don't see why not. Only thing missing is a wireless router to get internet/tv etc . . .
  12. I would definitely get the Hunter model. Looks really classy.
  13. Interesting . . . . Look at what I just found on the ATF.gov website. http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-4.pdf Page 165 15. STRAW PURCHASES Questions have arisen concerning the lawfulness of firearms purchases from licensees by persons who use a "straw purchaser" (another person) to acquire the firearms. Specifically, the actual buyer uses the straw purchaser to execute the Form 4473 purporting to show that the straw purchaser is the actual purchaser of the firearm. In some instances, a straw purchaser is used because the actual purchaser is prohibited from acquiring the firearm. That is to say, the actual purchaser is a felon or is within one of the other prohibited categories of persons who may not lawfully acquire firearms or is a resident of a State other than that in which the licensee's business premises is located. Because of his or her disability, the person uses a straw purchaser who is not prohibited from purchasing a firearm from the licensee. In other instances, neither the straw purchaser nor the actual purchaser is prohibited from acquiring the firearm. In both instances, the straw purchaser violates Federal law by making false statements on Form 4473 to the licensee with respect to the identity of the actual purchaser of the firearm, as well as the actual purchaser's residence address and date of birth. The actual purchaser who utilized the straw purchaser to acquire a firearm has unlawfully aided and abetted or caused the making of the false statements. The licensee selling the firearm under these circumstances also violates Federal law if the licensee is aware of the false statements on the form. It is immaterial that the actual purchaser and the straw purchaser are residents of the State in which the licensee's business premises is located, are not prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms, and could have lawfully purchased firearms from the licensee. An example of an illegal straw purchase is as follows: Mr. Smith asks Mr. Jones to purchase a firearm for Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith gives Mr. Jones the money for the firearm. If Mr. Jones fills out Form 4473, he violates the law by falsely stating that he is the actual buyer of the firearm. Mr. Smith also violates the law because he has unlawfully aided and abetted or caused the making of false statements on the form. Where a person purchases a firearm with the intent of making a gift of the firearm to another person, the person making the purchase is indeed the true purchaser. There is no straw purchaser in these instances. In the above example, if Mr. Jones had bought a firearm with his own money to give to Mr. Smith as a birthday present, Mr. Jones could lawfully have completed Form 4473. The use of gift certificates would also not fall within the category of straw purchases. The person redeeming the gift certificate would be the actual purchaser of the firearm and would be properly reflected as such in the dealer's records. My interpretation of the Federal Law is that your brother could have lawfully completed all the paperwork, paid for it, picked up the rifle and given you the firearm as a gift.
  14. My trophy cam came with straps as well.
  15. Perfect. Just make sure you make it a regular stop and bring some goodies when you go up to give him some incentive to keep looking after the place.
  16. Sorry to hear about the vandalism to your grandmas house. Once you get it back into shape you should hook up with your closest neighbor and ask him/her to keep an eye on it when you are not around. The place I got up in Germantown we befriended the neighbor across the street. We bring him homemade wine and homemade sopressata etc and give him a few bucks around the holidays for his trouble. If he sees an unknown vehicle enter the driveway he will get in his car and drive up following the car. He knows all the cars that should be there. If there's a power outage in the winter hell go in the house to light the wood stove to keep the house warm and keep the pipes fron freezing. He and his wife even feed the chickens in the coop and harvest the eggs. Just something to think about.
  17. Looks delicious. I'm definitely going to try that recipe. Thanks for sharing!!
  18. They do say bad things happen in threes. Hopefully this will be it.
  19. My prayers go out to her Elmo. I was in your shoes back in 1982 when my grandfather who lived with us died of a heart attack in his sleep 19 days before Christmas. He was 79. I was 15 and a freshman in a new high school. Needless to say it wasn't a very merry Christmas for my family at that time. I hope she recovers.
  20. May he rest in peace. Condolences to you and your family.
  21. Many of us have family and work obligations that pop up usually last minute and prevent us from going into the woods a lot. Trust me I wish I can get away for a week and hunt everyday until I fill my tags. Unless you are a professional hunter, retired, unemployed or have no family then I cannot see how anyone can hunt everyday of the season. As far as numbers go, I think it has a lot to do with weather not cooperating. The corn fields in my area still have not been harvested. The machines can't get in there when the grounds are saturated and full of mud. I'm hoping that by next weekend they will be cut and the deer will start moving around looking for new cover. During the summer months I've counted as many as 25 deer grazing in the fields. So I know they are out there. Last year I shot a doe on opening day for gun season and my 6 pt on last day of season. Usually in between they do go into survival mode but they still need to eat. Eventually they will come out. That's why when I do go up I sit all day while my buddies go in for lunch. Just my 2 cents.
  22. Hoping Big Brute is still alive next weekend.
