  1. Xironman, Thanks so much... You are a bit further that I would like to have to go, but it may be my best option.. I will keep you posted.. Thx again. Tom
  2. Does anybody know of a place in WNY where I can rent a 2 row corn planter? Or is there anyone on this site that would be interested in renting theres for a weekend? I consider myself a very reasponsible person and am willing to pay a fair amount to rent one. My camp is near Letchworth Park, but I am willing to drive a bit to make it happen. Figure it is worth asking here.. Either way, PM me with any information...
  3. Had 2 real nice bucks in one of our horse pastures on Sunday. Both still packing. You would think with the harsh winter they would be dropping....
  4. Does anyone have any experience with the Federal Trophy Coppers? My understanding is that is what the replaced the Barnes Expanders with... Just interested in understanding if the performance is similar (obviously it varies gun to gun, but..)...
  5. I shoot 3" federal Barnes expanders... I bought a bunch when I bought the gun. They shoot amazing. I have shot touching 3 shot groups at 100 yards... That said they stopped making them and I am running out... Was planning on trying the federal replacement... Every time I have pulled the trigger with it I have taken a deer (with several of the shots being over 150 yards)... I can't say that about my other shot guns....
  6. biz, Do you realize they are talking about using propane instead of natural gas ( furnace, stove, clothes dryer, etc...)? In rural towns you don't get natural gas so you have a huge propane tank that is used for everything.
  7. My camp is in Livingston County (NYSEG territory)... I built about 8 years ago.. They put the pole at the road for me to connect to.. That said, they would not do anything on thier part until I established "permanancy" on the property. they provided a definition for me. At the time, I had a travel trailer there and that did not meet the test. It wasn't until I got the building permit and they started construction that they would do their part. Hopefully it is different where you are.
  8. Got this one last archery season... 6 point... What makes it unique is that it has split main beams on both sides. What look like brow tines in the picture actually parallel the main beams on both sides.. This is the most unique rack I have got... It was a mature heavy buck as well
  9. keep in mind the Webster theater that he is taling about has been converted to a theater that has recliners vs. standard movine seats. In those theaters the capacity is significantly less and people tend to purchase tickets in advance, as it is reserved seating. I saw it a couple of weeks ago at the Greece Regal and there were plenty of empty seats..
  10. The question that I have is how will the lighter vehicle wait impact towing? If you think about it, half of that 700lbs. is weight you lose in the rear/bed of the truck... That is the main concern I would have at this point.
  11. my brassica is gone and my 3 acres of corn is picked completey clean as well... never expected it all to be gone this early
  12. Pygmy, I would love to hear more about your experience with the .280.. I had a chance to buy one a few years back from someone that won it at a gun raffle (Browning A-Bolt... Kicking myself to this day). I didn't know much about the round and had my mind set on a .270 at the time.. Seems like the bullet options are much greater with the .270 and with the .280 you are pretty much limited to 140gr. bullets.. Would like to get your thoughts on performance of the .280 and the variety of bullets available, as I might just be missing it. Thx in advance for your help!
  13. Find the right loads and pattern the gun at various distances... You will quickly get a sense for the effective range and where the pattern is hitting. it can be a very effective weapon if you know it and understand the effective capabilities of it.
  14. What kind of condition is it in? That will determine if it is a good deal or not..
  15. I read on another site that this years migration is the largest in 20+ years.. No explanation as to why, but people are seeing them on a fairly regular basis the past couple of weeks. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing
  16. that is a bit of a loaded questions, as it depends on the type of facilities/equipment the butcher has. the place I go to, it usually takes 2 weeks, but it is a place that regularly processes beef and pork.. They are equiped to let the deer age properly before butchering it. The quality of the meat is the best I have every received from any butcher I have gone to... If it is someone that is just doing it out of his/her garage and it takes 2 weeks, I would be concerned...
  17. I kind of chuckle because so many people have a hard enough time hitting the "vitals", what makes people think that trying to target something roughly the size of an apple is a better alternative.... I think the reality is that if someone is targeting the head it is because it is the only thing they have a shot at (the rest of the deer is in thick cover or the deer is walking straight at them.. It is a last ditch effort to just "get a shot"... In my mind that by default makes it unethical.. If you are a "good" hunter, you spend all spring and summer praticing the various shots and angles that make for a good quality shot. To throw that all out the window to just "get a shot" is plain wrong.. Had a kid that I am mentoring have a big 10 that we were seeing this year walk straight out of the thick stuff, walk straight at his stand, directly under him and straight away from him into the thcik stuff. He kept saying how he didn't feel like he had a good shot and if he did shoot it would be a "hail mary". At that moment I felt like he listened to everything I had been preaching during the spring and summer as we praticed shooting the mackenzie target... I have been told I am too conservative... OK, maybe I am, but when I do shoot, I can feel good about what I am doing and sleep aat night..
  18. You guys think the birn out is due to achery season starting on 10/1? We were talking about it down at camp this past weekend.. You tack on 2 additional weeks/weekends on the front end of the season and the burnout seems to hit in early December. This year I said I wasn;t going to hunt the first couple of weeks (especially if it is warm), but you wait all year for the time to come and it is hard not to be out there.
  19. Thanks... let us know what you think after putting the rounds thru it... I am amazed some times how accurate it is for a shotgun.. My one friend was very skeptical when I bought it and did not believe the articles written about it.. When i sighted it in for the first time I put 3 rounds thru it and had it dialed in hitting1.5 inches high at 60 yards. I then moved out to 100 yards and let him shoot 3 slugs thru it (3" Federal Barnes). He is what I would consider an "excellent shot". After 3 shots that formed a clover leaf at 100 yards, he was a believer...
  20. I am curious as to what you don't like about the Accu-Trigger.. I have had the 220 for a few years and think the trigger is one of the things I like most.. Really gets you focused on squeezing.. The way I look at it, If everyone like the same thing, they would only have to make one model of everything. I am just curious what it is you don't like..
  21. Phade/Grow... very helpful information.. do you guys buy your seed locally? I have boght seed at Turners in Hemlock and would guess that he would carry the radish, PTT and DER
  22. Phade, If you don't mind... PTT? DER?
  23. I have had a lot of luck with planting Brasica... It seems to grow well for me and the deer seem to love it.. I planted about 4 acres this year, as I firmly believe that having a lot of food available during the winter months makes the biggest impact. That said, as I start to think ahead to 2014, I was wondering if everyone plants thier brasica mid to late summer? What happens if you plant it in the spring? A couple of years ago I planted a seed blend in the spring that included brasica. It grew to 2 to 3 feet tall. It seemed like the deer waited until later into the season to start eating it, but I was fine with that, as there are so many ag crops around in October and November. Just wondering what others do and what their experiences have been. The way I look at it is the more tonage you can get out of the acrerage that you plant the better, but not sure if that thought process is flawed. I appreciate the input!
