I am guessing the time is off at least an hour as there is now way it is that bright at 4:50... Great picture phase.... Thx for sharing... Need to look into a couple of those cameras for next year.

Larry, thanks for sharing... That is an awesome buck. I wonder how long the brows were. It is scary to think that there was someone kicking his but... I understand wanting to keep a spot that yields a buck like that under wraps... Hopefully others will appreciate such a magnificent deer without making wise as comments. Thanks again for posting the pick!

Congrats! That is great news. Enjoy your holiday!!!

Larry, would love to see a picture of that deer. I love seeing bucks with those impressive spreads. My friend got a 9pt the other night that was fairly tall and 20".. 24" must be amazing

yea... I hear you.. put the law aside.. It is really around ethics to me... In general, we only hear about the deer that were found.. I wonder how many of those pre-7am shots result in wounded deer vs. recovered deer.. Kind of a stupid question because we will never know the answer, but it is the question I always ask myself when I hear shots at 6:29am... At the end of the day, everyone needs to make their own decisions and live with the consequences.. We are all adults..

at how openly people talk about how early and late they shoot or contemplate shooting deer. Maybe I am just way to conservative in my approach to hunting, but in reading thru posts over the course of the past couple of days, I can't even imagine thinking about shooting at 6:30am, yet there are people on here talking about shooting that early (and talking about 100 yard shots or more)... Where I hunt in 8M, the first shot I heard was at 6:29am.. I remeber saying to myself how could that possibly be... It was still pretty dark and I have always assumed those are cases where someone has a deer come by within 10 yards or so and makes the deision they are going to shoot the first deer they see. Then I read these posts and people are talking about shooting at long distances at that time.. Same goes for end of day... I apologize for the rant, but for me it just seems a bit crazy... but what bothers me even more is that the people that do it brag about the fact that they got a deer at 6:30am on opening day, at xxx yards.... I don't know, like I said i must be to conservative or to law abiding.... Good Luck to everyone still out looking!!

Any new news on this one? I live in the next town over and have not heard anything in the "local scuttlebutt"... I do know that the area yields its share of "monsters" every year, but if this thing is truely as big as it looks, the word would be out.. BTW, I hope it is real and would love to see it in person..

Think of them as being 15 year old teenage boys.... They always think they have a shot... LOL!!
-
Does are not in heat yet... When they are, you will know it because the bucks noses will be up their butts (not 100 yards behind).... The rut shows it's face a bit differently every year, but one thing is consistent, when the does go in heat the bucks are moving!

Unfortunately, my experience says that you only get one crack at a buck like that... Biz is right... Keep the phone off or put it on silent mode... It is tough enough to seal the deal without distractions and the big guys tend to always show up unannounced!!!

Just out of curiosity, what call do you use? Is it the Primos Buck Growl?
-
So, the Buck Growl really works? Did you see him cruising and call him in?
-
they don't get more symetrical than that.. Very well done!!!

"Still kind of dark"??????

If you do not practice that shot regularly, I would guees that you missed high.. Depending on the height of your stand at that distance you should put your pin on the bottom of the stomach (at least that is how it isw for me). With only a slight quartering at that range, that brings a whole additional level of complexity into the mix..

Wish I had a gun that nice when I was his age... I love my 220!!

I think you need to spend a little more time preparing and know where your shooting lanes are.. When the time comes to release the arrow, our minds do crazy things and do not process everything correctly... Take all of the variables within your control out of play.
-
you take your 9mm of your hip and make some noise...
-
That is one "boxy" buck... 4.5?

lurking, "not busy" was a very bad choice of words on my part.. I was thinking in relative terms of how busy the group must be during the regular season vs. early bow season. I understand the group is all volunteer and am always blown away by the fact that these people give up a portion of thier hunting season to help out others. Again, my apology for the bad choice of words.

Oblivitar... Can Deer Search.. Their is a link to thier site saved somewhere here on the site.. I would imagine they are probably not to busy this time of year... I have not used them myself, but have heard they can work magic

did you get the exit shot on that one? Eold love to see it.. Looks like a huge "puff" of blood came out with the bolt

With all of the financial problems our state has, I have always wondered why they have not implemented a selective logging program for state land. Can you imagine how much money is really there.. The state will give you a significant break on property taxes to put a good forestry plan in place on your property, but they don't do it themselves.. Makes no sense!

Switched to Slick Tricks last year... Was lucky enough to take a nice buck and doe.. Saw both of them fall within 50 yards of my stand, so I am sold!!

Is it just me or are there others out there that wished we would go back to a 10/15 bow opener.. Don't get me wrong, I love to hunt and bowhunting is my strongest passion, but I think it has made the season to long and has extended it into a period that is generally warmer and less "hunter friendly".. You can do a lot of "damage" heading out when it is warm... getting all sweaty and then climbing up a stand, broadcasting a strong scent can really hurt your chances later in the year.. Sure it can be that warm 2 weeks later, but the chances get less and less. I am not trying to "rain on anyone's parade".. I just liked things the way the used to be. Anyone else feel the same way? BTW... I will be out there, just because I can't not unt when me buddies are.. the "pull" is to great
