25.06, best round for whitetail in my opinion..
-
When I bought my 220, I also looked at the H&R ultra Slug.. I ultimately went with the 220 because I liked the option of it being a bolt and getting off a second shot. 5 years later and many deer, I would say that with either of these guns it should not be a consideration, as I have never had a need to take a second shot.

I have a 220... I have had it for 5 years or so

I have one and you would be more than welcome to shoot it. It is incredibly accurate and the recoil is very light. Have a Leupold scope on it.. I have probably taken 8 deer with it, out to 180 yards and never took more than 1 shot. Never had one run more than 20 yards either.. 3 inch federals are what I have always used. As others have stated, it is rifle accurate My camp is in Livingston County.. Could arrange a time to shoot it if you want to drive that far.

I bought the Muck Artic Pro Boots this year.. A lot of people rave about them and they are very comfortable/warm. The only negative is that if you like to tuck your pants in, they fit VERY tight around the calf, enough so that I would not buy them again. Always have used the Cabelas rubber booths with 200 grams of insulation and would go back to those in a heart beat

What do you call the tool that you used to dig the hole. I am familiar with a post hole digger, but never seen one that "corkscrews" like that.. I like it..
-
Just curious what breed puppy that is...

There are a lot of good makes and models out there.. For the type of hunting you are looking to do, I would go with 26" barrels... I have a weatherby in 20 gauge, that I have had for about 25 years.. Love it and love the fell and "swing" of the 26 inch barrels.. One thing you might want to look at is that often on GunBroker you can find some great older guns that are new "old stock"... some great SKB, Weatherby, Browning etc... guns that seem to be superior in quality to what you get today.

So sorry.. I can relate.. On May 2nd of this year I was at my camp turkey hunting and got a call around 1pm from a neighbor that my house was on fire.. the house burned to the ground and we literally lost everything but the clothes on our backs (and what I had packed for camp)... It sucks, but like you said, you are safe. most material things can be replaced. We were fortunate enough to have a very good insurance company and everything went smooth on that front. My thoughts are with you and your family..

Remington, Ruger, or Savage?
t_barb replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I am a big fan of savage products, as I have always had good luck with them. I looked at the Ruger, but it felt kind of "cheap" to me compared to the Savage. That may just be because I am used to the Savage feel. The only negative that I have about the Savage is the plastic magazine. It has never caused an issue, just wish it wasn't plastic. Makes of rifle are like makes of trucks... Everyone has their brand... Savage is mine, as they always work for me. -
I have found the best solution is to have someone there on a regular basis.. I realize that can be hard due to time and distance, but make a friend with someone local.. Maybe give them the opportunity to hunt your property in return for keeping and eye on it and stopping there regularly. The piece of mind is well worth it. There are a lot of other benefits that come with having a local connection...

Love my 220... Put a nice piece of glass on it and you will think you have ra rifle in your hands.. It is that accurate...

I was very fortunate to pick-up a John Deere 246 Corn Planter this weekend for a very reasonable price. It is in really good shape and everything functions as intended. I even got the original user guide and extra plates to go with it. I am wondering if anyone has any experience using one of these planters... Any words of wisdom worth sharing? I am curious to know how you regulate the flow of fertilizer.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Looking forward to putting it to use in the spring.

keep in mind wind direction... makes a HUGE difference
-
It should.. It is the best slug gun I have ever owned... at 100 yards, it is "rifle accurate"... Have comfortably taken deer at over 150 yards with a good rest.

I took the advice of Grizz last year when I was in the market and went with a 25.06... Pulled the trigger twice last year and the results were great. Love the flexibility to go down to a 75 or 8- grain bullet for a great varmint gun as well.

Think I have enough turnips!....
t_barb replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Stop in to turners in hemlock Friday and he said someone was in there Thursday and cleaned him out of PTT... Anyone try other types of turnips.. He had another one there, but I did not buy any -

Perseverance pays off.. Well done!!!!

I had one like that and it worked... You just need to restacked the layers every couple hours so thing dry evenly

I have found the Keen shoes and boots to be great.. Comfortable and a lot of support. I am a big fan.. I usually look for them to go on sale at Cabelas and then try to take advantage of one of their promos (save $30 if you spend $150)...

First shed buck of the season = injured?
t_barb replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
Good point on the heavier coat in the winter. That may be the difference... The rest of the facial features are an exact match.. I always start with the ears, as that often seems to be the best way to differentiate them.. -

t_barb replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
In the picture with the antlers there appears to be a little notch in the ear that I do not see in the other pictures. Could just be the angle -
Turners in hemlock always has a good selection and he is good to deal with
