I have 2 cameras set up in Geneseo and anxious to check them out . I expect to be moving them to other areas on the property to see what activity is there . Those are both Moultrie . I have some others that are battery eaters and won't set them up on that property as it is 50 miles away .

Pygmy ----- It's a rifled barrel shooting rifled slugs . My response was to "sbuff" who was telling me that I shouldn't be putting rifled slugs through a rifled barrel . With my deteriorating eyesight I doubt I could group well anymore . I have only shot it twice in the past 5 years and got a couple doe on Opening Day hunting . I havn't had it at the range in longer than that . Havn't adjusted the sight in over 20 years . I take the shotgun out opening day of gun season and carry the ML or pistol the rest of the season . With my deteriorating eyesight I doubt I could group well anymore .

Getting an answer from the DEC can be difficult . When I asked a question about the legality of using a deer decoy while hunting and that I couldn't find anything in the Regs saying it's legal , I was told by a DEC officer , " If it doesn't say it's illegal , then it is legal" ! So , I would tend to believe that since it doesn't say we cannot bow hunt during a youth season , then we would be able to do so .

What I am implying is ...... kids don't learn to fail if they don't grow up in the real world . I take that little Billie Bob or Sally Mae isn't capable of shooting waterfowl , turkey or deer during the regular season so let's do something special . Maybe Daddy doesn't want them in the way when it's his turn to hunt ! Heck , why not take the kid to a fenced in deer farm or a hunting preserve and let them blast away !

I think the Youth Hunt would be more of the "dumbing down of America" ...... a kid needs an edge because he might not get a deer when Daddy hunts . Kids can not get 70's on their tests so they lower the passing score . Kids cry when they lose a game so they make them all winners and even the worst teams get trophies . Why can't a dad or mentor take their kid out opening day of deer season to hunt ? Learning the hard way makes for learning REALITY . Could it be that Daddy wouldn't want to give up a shot on a trophy deer if it came by ?

Winchester 1200 pump with a Weaver Qwik-Point sight . Winchester and Federal rifled slugs cloverleaf at 50 yards and 3" group at 100 . Most shots are 50 yards or less . Havn't needed to shoot more than 2 slugs a year . I used to sight in just before every deer season with no adjustment , then every 2 years then every 5 years . I havn't adjusted the sight in over 20 years and yes , I had taken the barrel off , put it back on with no adjustment . I tried sabots a few years ago with same results and havn't found it necessary to use them .

The latest issue also has a crap load of Trail Cameras , treestands , hunting clothes , etc .

I carry the shotgun opening day of gun season . After that , I carry the ML . The ML is more fun to shoot !

What ever one he gets , I would suggest one with a Hand Crank to make it easier to pull the string back . Other than the PSE Tac bows , I don't know which have the cranks . Some of the Parker Crossbows have a "easy pull system" http://www.parkerbows.com/crossbows.html

The reason it's recommended NOT to shoot rifled slugs in a rifled barrel is because they supposedly will lead up a barrel . This may be true if you put a crapload of them through without giving the barrel a good cleaning . A little elbow grease and it's no problem ! I bought my rifled barel about 15 years ago or just before Creekside closed up and have been shooting nothing but rifled slugs through it since then . Owner's manual ? I bought the shotgun in 1965 . I don't think they had rifled slugs then .

Are there any Bow Shops near you ? I would look for several shops and check out different brand bows . There are a lot of excellent manufacturers out there Matthews , Elite , Bowtech , Parker , PSE , Martin , just to name a few . A few of the shops have a range and will let you try one out . If you purchase a bow at Dicks or Gander Mt check it over real good . People pick these bows off the hook and pull them back and sometimes they get dry fired which can cause damage to the bow . Anyway , don't get stuck on a particular brand .

Goodness Gracious ...... I hope you aren't comparing a rifle to a crossbow ! However , for those of you that don't care to argue , there are several crossbows for sale in the Guide . They were having Free Shipping for anything over $125 for a while so you might want to take advantage of that offer .

On some of the profiles , you can get an idea of when someone is located by the map . It's handy when someone has something for sale . For instance , I wouldn't want to purchase something for pick up if it was from Queens , etc .. Too far to drive .

Well , Golly-Gee , I never realized that stating someone was trespassing and teaching his kid bad habits was "bashing" . Shame on me !

No ..... the best speed is just over 400 fps . If they get them up around 500 fps , maybe i'll get one . Just posted the info in case someone is interested . The Barnett "Ghost" is the most expensive in the Guide . I am only 70 so I don't need a crossbow ....... yet .
