  1. After I had knee replacement a couple years ago I bought a Troy Build 48" 17 HP rider . It has a Koehler engine and the damn oil seals leak . I rigged some metal so it wouldn't leak on the exhaust and periodically add some engine oil stop leak . It doesn't leak too much but just enough to be bothersome . Anyway , no one wants to see a crappy looking lawn and I consider it an investment .
  2. The nice thing about reloads is you can tweak the loads to suit your needs .
  3. Nah , ya can't let the lawn go . I am paying a company to fertilize ,etc to the lawn . I sure can't let that go to waste .
  4. Try to get a look at them in a store and get inside and sit down . On a few , the windows don't work right to allow a good bow shot . Bigger is better for bows so you have plenty of room to draw so you'd be looking at "hub" blinds . The Dog House blind is a nice one for gun hunting but to small for bow . I have an Ameristep hub blind that I had set up numerous times . I set it up last bow season and had 4 out of 5 of the hubs snap . I think I can get a set of replacement hubs for about $40 plus shipping .
  5. All I am saying is take a child hunting with you and get them into it gradually . Don't push them into it . We did a lot of camping when my kids were young and spent a lot of time outdoors . I never pushed hunting on the boys ( 3 ) . Two of them are avid deer hunters now and we often hunt together . I have no regrets of not forcing it on them .
  6. The 7-30 is another wildcat cartridge . Buying bullets was expensive and also difficult . Federal was the only loads I could find ( 120 gr ) so I started reloading them . I took the wrong bullets on a hunt and fire formed the cartridge when I shot the doe with a reload . On another site , a couple guys said do a regular load instead of messing around fire forming cases before reloading them .
  7. Doc , I did a paper on something similar to that for a college course . It was on Pop Warner / PeeWee football . Many has-been or never-were football jocks that were dads pushed their kids into football . The kids wanted to do kid stuff but nooooooo . Daddy was going to make them into a rough tough football player . I know at least 3 kids that wouldn't play high school football . They were burned out . If a kid is interested in hunting , fine , but don't force them into it or make them feel inadequate if they don't show an interest . Don't push a kid into shooting a 12 ga or high recoil rifle . Most won't do well and may lose interest at an early age . Make sure the gun they use is something they can handle . And , yeah , I know someone on the site will respond that his 6' , 240 pound 12 year old Billy Bob can out hunt and out shoot anyone on here ! Let 'r rip !
  8. At 9:45 , it's 33 degrees out according to my digital thermometer .
  9. The color is so great on the duck that it doesn't look real ... beautiful
  10. I took a doe with my Thompson Contender 7-30 waters a few years ago at 55 yards . 7-30 waters is a 7mm bullet in a necked down 30-30 case .
  11. If there is a job description to be followed , then there should be no deviation . The same would apply with a 70 year old woman with boobs hanging on her belly expecting to get a job at Hooters !
  12. I reloaded some 44 mag rounds for my oldest son . Winchester 296 powder pushing a 240 gr Hornaday XTP . He shot a doe last season with it . She didn't go anywhere . He shot her from a stand that I built several years ago .
  13. Back to the original post ............ most business' , the size of Wegman's have written job descriptions . If the employee cannot follow the Job Description , he / she should be assigned a different task or terminated .
  14. The only time I put up a camera without a lock is when I can put it up at least 10' in the air . I did this on a friend's property and it was a pain to carry a ladder back in the woods but it was worth it . Private land and high in the air .
  15. One of my Grandsons is flying out to Kali-Fornia tomorrow . He is going to drive a vehicle for GOOGLE Earth across the USA taking pictures . It will be for about 3 - 4 month trip . He's a smart kid but dicided it was more fun to party than to study in college . Lost his scholarship and wasted a year . I hope he grows up on the trip !
  16. I was thinking of trying this when being out all day hunting . I think their 5 hours are up ............
  17. I was going to get the Patio Furniture out but there is still a chance of snow .
  18. Yeah , we know your opinion about hunting from treestands !
  19. When stationed at Camp LeJeune many many years ago , we had to fight the ticks , chiggers and sand fleas . At that time when you had a tick on you , you put a red hot cigarette on it's butt to get it to back out . That's a no no now . Not sure if it's not a healthy thing to do or considered animal cruelty !
  20. The "Cuse" snuck out a squeaker last night . Wisconsin had some serious 3 point shooters . I hope they can get past Ohio !
  21. I have seen a couple deer on a "spikey fence" over the years in Geneseo on the Wadsworth's property .
  22. What happens when there is a shortage of trees
