    hello

    Welcome to Hunting NY
  3. My youngest son , Nick, and I did an afternoon hunt in Geneseo today . I saw absolutely nothing . Nick saw a fawn around 1:30 . At 4:50 he got down from his stand and saw a doe up the hill . He didn't shoot as it was sky-lined . We packed up and left . The deer were smarter than us as they stayed out of the wind .
  4. I have always had the straps tighten to the tree . I try to remember to loosen them at the end of the season so they don't gerd / damage the tree ............
  5. Lawdwaz - here are the pics . It's real muddy down near the thickets and woods . The water doesn't run off .
  6. I took pics with my phone . It takes almost a day to send pictures from my phone camera to VZ Media and then email them to myself .
  7. Hunted my SIL's property with my oldest son this afternoon . The only deer I saw was 3 that we spooked out of the gully . I heard a shot at 3:30 and my son said 7 or 8 deer came down through the fiels and he shot at a buck . He waited a bit and then shot a doe . Another double . We were able to quit early . Next up will be an afternoon hunt with my youngest son . So far we have gotten 3 bucks and 3 doe off that property . Life is Good !
  8. Went to Geneseo this afternoon . I set up my Ameristep Caretaker blind and sat . Wasn't seeing anything . Bored .... Legal quitting time was 5:09 pm . I had to pee real bad and closed up the Hub Blind at 4:35 . At 4:45 , I saw a doe coming my way . She was between me and my SIL's house so I couldn't shoot . More than a good thing as I grabbed my rifle by the scope and felt something loose . The scope rail is held on by 3 set screws . Two of them were loose . Can't use the rifle until I re-sight it . I will take my Savage 220 slug gun for tomorrow afternoon . My youngest son bought a used trailer to haul his ATV . He drove from Honeoye with the trailer to pick up his ATV Sunday . He left the hunting property in Geneseo , got about 1 1/2 miles away and blew a tire . No spare . I told him to drive the ATV back to the property and see if my SIL would bring him back to his car . He drove the trailer back to the property and stashed it . He ordered 2 tires ( 4.80-12 ) and should get them this Friday . While I was there today my oldest son and I were able to free up the lug nuts on the bad tire side . Tomorrow we will try the other tire . I am thankful that my son didn't get half way home and get the flat tire .
  9. I looked up nelsonnmatt . He doesn't show any posts and had joined Nov 23 . He may have gotten zapped for spamming . ??????????
  10. I am beginning to think that my feet and hands being cold might be Raynauds Disease . My father had it . Two of my sisters have it and two of my kids have it . Poor blood circulation and blood flow . No matter what boots , foot warmers I have don't seem to help . My feet are even cold in the house and the floor is warm .
  11. A friend of mine said he and his wife didn't care for Turkey so he went to Joe's Meat Market in Ontario and bought a couple Prime Rib Steaks for Thanksgiving . I think they still load up the Turkeys with chemicals to make them grow big .
  12. What a long day . Two of my sons and a grandson met at the property in Geneseo . I was in my stand by 6:15 . Around 7:25 i heard 3 shots . I waited a few minutes and the called my youngest son who was 1/4 mile away . He said he dropped a doe and took 2 shots at a buck . Later he reported that he had gotten both . Nick was using his Savage 220 slug gun . Suggested he get them loaded at his car and head home . Since my other son , grandson and I hadn't seen anything , we decided to leave . I was disappointed that I didn't get a shot with my 44 mag pistol . Went to my oldest sons house for dinner . Had a great meal . I ate more marinated backstraps than turkey . All in all , it was a good day . Nick's deer
  13. Dark meat but I don't care much for Turkey . I wish the Pilgrims had sacrificed a pig so we would have ham on Thanksgiving .
  14. My 2 sons , grandson and I are going to do a morning hunt tomorrow . Depending on the wind I am considering using my Ruger Super Red Hawk 44mag with open sights from one of my bow stands . I had a Leopold 2X scope on the pistol but couldn't get on a deer at close range so I took it off . Maybe I will change my mind about the pistol . Not sure .
  15. The field to the left in the picture belongs to a neighbor and I don't have permission to shoot out there . Between 3:45 and 4:45 I saw 6 deer in the field . 5 were definitely antler less . Not sure about the 6th one . Around 4:30 my youngest son shot at a doe . Thought he hit her but wasn't going to get down until 5pm . At about 5pm , I packed up my gear and waited by my ATV . Nick didn't spot any blood so I drove the quarter mile to where he was and helped look . Nothing . No blood , no deer . I think he is going back in the am to look some more .
  16. I have a pair of insoles that allow me to slide a hand warmer towards the toe part . My feet were still cold. If I rested my heels on the ground rather than my whole foot while sitting in the chair blind , that seemed to help .
  17. No. In my brilliance I couldn't help get on the hunting forum. Chalk it up to old age . Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  18. All set. Bring on the deer Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  19. I bought a pair of Baffin Insulated Hunting Boots and wore them for the 1st time last Saturday . I wasn't impressed with them for keeping my feet warm . I had to order 1 1/2 size larger than my other footwear due to the bulky insulation . I tried putting my heated insoles in but that didn't work . I wore my heated socks but couldn't reach inside the boots to turn them on . I did use a pair of the toe warmers in the boots . I had thought that since the boots were engineered in Canada that they would be much better .
  20. Looks like you doe got caught in a leg trap !
