G man, Has anyone seen any good ones yet?

My brother and I used to make a lot of hard cider years ago, we would get used bourbon barrels from down south and fill them with fresh pressed apple cider. We stored them in his basement till they stopped working, usually around March. He lived in an old farm house so the basement was always cool. Then we would siphon it out and put it in 1 qt. bottles with a tablespoon of sugar, re cap, and store them till summer. The bottles were the old fashioned type that used real caps. It turned out like champagne! One bottle would knock you down!

Not to derail the OP but, if you gut shoot a deer and find it the next day, can you salvage any meat? My experience is the entire deer smells like guts and is unfit for consumption. As for the OP, I gut shoot a nice buck at 8:30 in the morning on the last day of bow season (years ago) I sat in my stand till 10, got out quietly, went back at 3:30, lost the trail within a 100 yds, couldn't find the arrow, a good friend started to do a body search and found the deer still alive. He had stiffened up enough so he couldn't get up. I actually walked right up to it and put another arrow it it's chest. He bolted like a rabbit, went 50 yds. and flipped over dead. Unbelievable but goes to show you a gut shot deer can and will live for 8 hours plus.

Lawd, give me some of that big ass buck meat for jerky and i'll let you know if it comes out chewy!!

Moog, it is actually 2" apart, BH are 1 to left of string, FP are 1 to right. But I was trying to figure out if I move the rest to the right to bring it to the string won't that just make the FP hit further to the right. I don't see how I can get both to hit the same?
-
Ok Moog, I got my bow back and apparently the timing was off. I paper shot it just to check it myself and I am getting a slight right tear no matter what I do with my grip. I assume I have some kind of flaw with my form. Anyway I tried walk back tuning with BH and FP and the Bh are hitting 1" to left at 20 yds and Fp hit 1" to right. If I move the sight to correct the BH won't it just make the FP hit further to the right? FYI, I shot at 30 yds also and had almost the same results. Personally I think I can live with this as the bow is shooting good and I can adjust for BH and be ready for the season.

Buck weight (field dressed) - what's a "big one" in NY
2012_taco replied to buckchaser's topic in Deer Hunting
Cheap scales are just that, cheap. But it's still better than guessing! I cut up a small doe for a friend last year and He guessed the weight at 80-90 lbs. I asked if he wanted me to weigh it, he said no don;t bother. Well i threw it on the scale after he left it weighed 55 lbs! Yes it was a small doe. -
Middletown Gander Mountain Gift Card Scam
2012_taco replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in General Chit Chat
Not to derail the thread but , recently I checked my credit card statement to see if I was charged for a purchase i didn't receive only to discover 2 charges on my wife's card from some business about 2 weeks apart for $580,00 each! we contacted the bank and they removed the charges and we got a letter from the bank saying that they have resolved the charges. Yesterday we got a check in the mail from the same company for $28.26 ? I told my wife don't cash it and contact the bank. I've never heard of this company and we have never ordered anything from them. This stuff scares the crap out of me! -
I gave up!!! I tried the walk back with field points and BHs and now I am all over the place. It was getting so frustrating that yesterday I took my bow in to Nick's, having Roy check the tuning for me. I need to know it is set up right first, then I can try to fine tune it with the BHs and FPs. I hate this, if I don't see better results soon I will not feel confident hunting with the bow. It seems I go through this every year! I get comfortable with shooting my bow with field points but when I switch to BHs they always shoot different. I have tried many different heads hoping to correct this but it hasn't worked so far!

Card board blinds..

I know this is an old thread but I finally got my hybrid ground blind done. I put in a couple of food plots this summer and one doesn't have many good trees for stands so I made a "permanent" blind. I picked up 3- 4'x10' pallets and took them apart to make a 6x6 base, added pieces for the 4 corners,, used some of the boards for rafters, covered the roof with 2 layers of cardboard, then topped it all with a cheap camo tarp from HF. Finally I placed my dog house blind in it and screwed it down to the platform. I had some 2x2 carpet tiles that fit on the floor perfectly. Now I have a spot to hunt when the weather sucks! -
I have a CVA optima in stainless steel with camo thumb hole stock. I got a great deal at a local gun shop, picked it up for <250 with Konus scope. I put on a Nikon pro staff. I love the break action, fastest cleaning ML I've ever owned. ML's are fun to play with, trying different loads, bullets etc. Mine shoots best with 100 gr. pyrodex (2 pellets) and 165 gr shockwave bullets. If you get a ML and want to mount a scope I believe I still have the Konus 3-9 x 32 i could sell cheap. send me a PM. Good luck and enjoy!

I'll give it a try. I didn't even think about trying the walk back tuning with the FP once I did it with the BH. I just assumed that as I changed my set up slightly for the BH tuning that it will be off with FPs . I was more concerned with the terrible paper tears. I got much better results on paper before I ever started trying the walk back tuning.

OK I did the walk back tuning with field points a while ago, made the adjustments to get it on, I have been shooting my bow with pretty good results so I decided to try the walk back tuning with broadheads yesterday..... I had to make a couple of adjustments as my arrows were hitting 2" to the left. I got it set up good and actually cut the string at 30 yds! So like the dummy I am, I went back and tried the paper test with field points and I keep getting a 2" right tear! Should I be concerned with this or just be satisfied that the bow is shooting good with broadheads? I'm sure the field points are going to hit different than the broadheads no big deal as I plan to just practice with broad heads from here on, but I do have a 3D shoot coming up and I don't want to be changing things just for the shoot. Am I missing something here?

Happy Birthday TC ! Enjoy the day.

I've tried all kinds of sock combinations but my feet always get cold on a long sit no matter the outside temps. My feet seem to sweat a lot and once the socks get wet it is only a matter of how long I can sit till my feet are cold. I've tried toe warmers, electric socks, and changing socks, nothing works. Where I hunt is very wet in the fall so rubber boots are a must. I've even tried putting unscented roll on antiperspirant on my feet before heading out, that seems to help but eventually I get cold. I've been looking at the themocell foot bed warmers but the reviews are not the best.

Welcome Nadine! Hawkeye is the best! I'm sure you do more than your share there. PS Gencounty, Hawkeye has an open shoot on Labor Day, Starts around 7 am, with breakfast and lunch available. 3- 10 target courses. Always a good time!

I bought a dead sled a few years ago it sits in the corner of the garage, I used it once on a good sized buck only to have half of the connecting straps break off! I've been meaning to doctor it up and give it another try but haven't gotten around to it. Now you got me thinking... gotta fix it up before deer season. I like the pvc pipe idea on the tow rope, has to feel better on the belly!

I use a slider single pin Tru Glo. The HHA is a better site but I had this one and I'm used to it. I have it marked at 18 , 30 and 40 yards. Those marks are only about 3/8 of an inch apart total. If I used multiple pins they would look way too clustered. I leave it set at 18 yds. and if I need to make a quick adjustment in the woods I can. Usually I just compensate with aiming high or low. It's great for 3d shooting as you can adjust and hold on for different ranges.
-
Does anyone have one of these blinds and are you having problems with the metal tips breaking off from the hubs? I replaced about half of the tips a few years ago(I don't use the blind much) I pulled it out yesterday to check it out and sure enough there are several more broken tips. I had a couple of spare tips but not enough. I tried to find them on line but it looks like I'll have to contact Ameristep for the parts. This is very frustrating, I don't know if it's my fault as I seem to struggle with the blind every time I set it up or take it down.

I really liked to old Dick Kirby videos on turkey hunting. they helped me get started years ago and I still lend them to youngsters to get them started the right way. Although I have to lend them my vhs player also !!!

When I practice I always shoot 5 dot so I don't hit and ruin other arrows. But I know I have shot at a lot of 3D shoots and have had my arrows hit by others or i hit theirs! That's probably what weakened the arrow. Besides doesn't the carbon arrows weaken with repeated shooting as they flex a lot with every shot? Any way Lawd has been bugging me to get some arrows for him to cut, so I might as well oblige.
-
I know this has been posted somewhere on this site, but I can't find it so I started this one. I went to shoot my bow the other day and I remembered to check the arrows. Well I thought I heard a little crack sound from 1 of them so I went through them again and the second time one of the shafts snapped in my hand! The thought of that shaft exploding when I shot it scares the heck out of me. Now I'm thinking it's time to replace that batch of arrows as they are all the same age.

I was out to check my food plots yesterday (9F) and saw a flock with 3-4 hens and 10 poults! So this spring was a good hatch finally! They are bugging in all the fresh cut trails.
