  1. This popped up on my youtube feed the other day. The guy sure is committed . . .
  2. Killin it. Best pic posted on this site all year. How many times did they say "Hey dad watch this!" and make you proud? Awesome.
  3. We've hit SUNY Cortland (bleh), University of Binghamton (nice) and will be on the road to SUNY Fredonia tomorrow. Good times. I hope she finds someplace she really likes Bucks. It has a lot to do with their success.
  4. Fried potatoes, diced tomatoes and poached cod. My 17yo son's #2 request behind v backstraps.
  5. @Nytracker for the win! X2! Parboiled till tender then dredge, coat and panfry. Smother with brown gravy (sorry) and serve with spuds. Classic. I fed my boys so many squirrel "wings" soaked in Texas Pete's hot sauce back in the day it was silly. Good eats right there!
  6. Don't know much about the National Deer Association but thought it somewhat humorous the DEC got an award for "leadership" lol. Legit or is it akin to a Cuomo Emmy? https://romesentinel.com/stories/state-dec-garners-award-for-deer-management,127434
  7. Fried potatoes. First run in the new Matfer black steel pan received during the holidays. Pork chops n gravy will be up in a few minutes.
  8. Ahhhh nope. I got better things to do with my time, no place to do it and don't need the hassle. Just sayin.
  9. Darn it Bucks! Tell Mrs. Bucks to get well soon! You ain't missed much today. Haven't cut a fresh track yet but we're tryin. Thinkin of you and your family. Talk soon.
  10. I'll be out. Two full days with a compadre. And I'm killin the first adult deer that stands there and wants to die. Not too complicated .
  11. Considering who you were responding to, there's just some very weird juxtaposed irony in that phrase. Can't wrap my head around it yet this morning but I'm sure it'll come to me lol.
  12. LineX. Not quite as rough of a finish as the Rhino. Had a new 2000 Silverado sprayed and it was the best money I ever spent. When I finally sold it in 2017 the liner was the only thing holding the bed together!
  13. @Swamp_bucks just can't let it go. I mean it's not my fault he's vertically challenged. I keep telling him "Bud, I know it was deep but it slowed them down too!" Slow enough so I could get a shot off! Snow or not we'll pound em again Sat. Looking forward to it SB!
  14. I ran across this Tuesday walking some new ground. First time I saw it I was 50' above it looking down a steep hillside. Looked odd. Too green for December in CNY. Found myself at the bottom of the same hill later in the day. There was a 1/4 acre of it easily. At first I thought it was bamboo. A friend of mine had some at his place but that stuff was huge. This was small. And green stem. I'd forgotten what it was but one text to the same friend and he nailed it. +1 if you can identify it sans google. Prehistoric stuff.
  15. I hunted ducks in the early 90's in LA, MS, AL and TX. Good times. The coonazzes I hunted with always had a rod/reel/triple crappie rig loaded with big treble hooks and a float for retrieving dead ducks. Borderline hillbilly way to bring them home but cheap and efficient. Blast n cast lol. Tough to have a dog in college.
  16. Ugh. Never great to hear but times change. Most times for the better. Not to trivialize your situation but who kept the pan?
  17. We could be brothers. I'm a 6' tall 200# uncoordinated oaf. I fall and pick myself up at least once every time I go walk in the woods. Shot nine times at two deer on opening day years ago. Never cut a hair. Scope was 14" high and 6" right. The number of times I've left my truck to go hunting and returned to find my keys locked inside is pushing double digits. Dead car batteries are my middle name. Dropped 3 of the 4 arrows in my quiver onto the ground one day in the stand as a parade of deer walked by. New nocks weren't tight lol. Happens all the time. Perspective is important. Don't sweat the small stuff. Take it slow when you get time to be outside. Much much more enjoyable imho and hey, at least you weren't working.
  18. Might as well stick a needle in your arm. You start hunting and killing ducks and a lot of other hunting time becomes secondary. Skip the geese late season. Limit is usually one bird per day. Kill em in Sept instead. But the ducks, the ducks. That pond is a gift. Spend a day in the off season and find yourself a couple spots to hunker down in for a morning duck hunt next year. Bring brush clippers. Make it comfortable. It doesn't take much to kill ducks as long as nothing in your setup shines. Keep the brim of your hat low. Take @Otto up on his offer and shoot your gun. Pattern your gun as you would for turkeys. Steel shot sucks. Improved cyl in my gun works best with steel. Get them close and hit them hard!
  19. I have a very good friend from out of state interested in leasing a hunting property near Fort Plain, NY. 200+ acres. I'll preface my question(s) by saying I'd rather not discuss the politics of leasing hunting land in this thread. Just trying to help a friend decide if this would be a good option for him (us). My friend's an accomplished hunter and goes on several guided hunts each year. Very successful in that regard. He's also leased several different properties over the years in different states on the East cost, with mixed results. We hunt together when time allows and usually kill game, but this place would be more of a getaway place for him several times a year. Not a trophy hunting property per se. The property is listed by a leasing company and located in 6S. I'm not personally familiar with hunting in that part of the state (Eastern 6S). Property is located about a 45 min drive for me and 4 hrs for him. I plan on visiting the property early next week. He's basically depending on me to make the call to lease it or not. We'd hunt deer (all seasons), turkeys and September geese there. The property appears to be a working dairy or beef farm. A majority of the acreage is cropland but also contains some mixed hardwoods and a large stream. ATV use and camping during hunting season would be permitted. My #1 concern at this point is controlling access on a property that can't be monitored 24/7 by either of us. I mean the point of leasing it is too gain exclusivity to hunt it but my gut feeling is that concept would be difficult in practice. Some of my concerns or red flags . . . 1) The listing states the leasee would be permitted to post the property. This tell me it's not currently posted which tells me it might be a free-for-all for the locals. 2) Why is this property even up for lease? It seems like a "fresh" or new lease to the market. 3) Who hunts there now? What other question would you have for the lessor and leasing agent? All input welcome. Thanks.
