  1. I had a whole family of flying tree squirrels nesting in one of my treestand seat cushions. When i picked up my cushion i had squirrels gliding all over the place, if i sat first they would have been squashed. Good thing i saw the fabric move a little. Cute little buggars.
  2. Sorry for the loss, my prayers go out to him and his family.
  3. Annelloti pasta baked in a meat sauce with prosciutto and mozzarella. Lard bread on the side along with sharp provolone and Sicilian olives.
  4. 1 hunter (me) on 41 acres, passed deer and none taken with bow or crossbow, gun season took 1 buck and 1 doe, muzzleloader took 2 doe.
  5. As long as you have the right equipment and take your time its not that difficult.
  6. Fried some honemade venison dogs on a skillet, were yummy!!!
  7. I fried some dogs on the skillet and they were great!!!!
  8. Thats not a problem, i usually freeze all my venison chopmeat in 1 1/2lb. packages because we use it for burgers, meatballs..etc. When im ready to make sausuage, dry sausauge or franks i just defrost a bunch of venison chopmeat packages then refreeze the final product.
  9. 5lbs venison, 5 lbs fatty pork, both ground using larger grinding plate. Ingredients: 4 oz non iodized salt (i use kosher salt) 1/2 cup soy protien powder Pinch of sugar, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, coriander, celery salt, then add 1/2 cup cold water to every thing and mix all very well. After all mixed well run the ground meat through the grinder a second time using the fine grinder plate. Set the meat aside in fridge for 1/2 hour. Then can stuff franks in either sheep or collogan edible casings. I used 21mm cologen casings, some opened when boiled so next time may try natural sheep casings. Once all 10 lbs were stuffed, i blanched them in hot water until cooked. Then placed them in a cold water /ice bath. Once cooled they were cut to size then vacumn sealed. Once eaten i think they will do best barbecued, if boiled again i think the collogen casings may peel. To be honest, we peeled the collagen casings off a few after they were boiled and they were still great. Barbecuing them with the collegen casings will just give you a little more of a bite.
  10. Are you talking about the recipe for the dogs?
  11. Sorry, may need to check my archives. Posted the recipe a couple times in past, just little busy right now helping my dad put in new kitchen appliances.
  12. Either way your in it for alot of money or alot of time. Before all was said and done and all was packaged, went to bed at 1am, started at like 5pm. Yes the dogs are more time consuming, did a double grind, then boiled the dogs, then they got an ice bath. Me and my little guy were taste testing all night...lol
  13. That time of the year again, made 25lbs of sausage, 10 lbs of hotdogs and some breakfast sausage patties.
  14. I have my main electric grinder at the cabin, its old but does a great job. For at home i picked up a kitchen aid grinder attachment on sale from macys for $45. Did a fine grind on 35 lbs of chopmeat yesterday and worked great.
  15. When you make general ASSumptions as you did, any person that owns land will take your posts personally. I myself take great offense to your comments and stubbies. I can assure you that the tresspasser i have had to deal with were locals, never the city folk. I for one take great pride and work my ass off to acquire, maintain and every year enhance my properties. I give more back to the land then i ever take and try to make it better every year for the benefit of all wildlife, not just deer. Now i will make an assumption with no proof, heres goes. Its usually the non landowner and locals that bitch about all the posted signs and complain how bad the hunting is on public land. Those are the same people that think they have rights to anyones property because they live upstate. They are also the very same people why land is posted because of slob hunters with no respect for the land, dumping, leave crap in the woods, trashing signs etc...now do you get the idea why everything is so locked up. But on the flip side, look at what buckmaster has accomplished with a little leg work, work, work, work and more work. He owns his property, but is tireless in his ability to obtain more land then he could ever hunt. It can be done, but being lazy and making excuses dont help your cause. I own my land now, but in the past we were always able to obtain permission to hund land, by being polite, ask, ask, ask and offer up help, again that translates to alot of work, work, work... But i understand that may be too hard of work for some ..lol..get out there and ask, work hard and stop making excuses and blaming all landowners or making assumptions for your lack of success.
  16. That has to be the most retarded statement ever on this site. Without our city momey alot of those upstate towns would be hurting for sure. I pay taxes for schools upstate that my children will never attend, who benefits from that. Me and my family have owned land, houses upstate for the last 55 + years, what gives an upstater more rights to hunting then us city folk? I can assure you that me and my family are the most realistic, old style hunting you will find.
  17. I have to say they are amazng, worth every penny. I wore them last weekend of muzzleloader and had on just thin dress socks, the temps were 19 degrees and my feet were very warm. They are also very comfortable and offer excellent traction. The only downfall because they are a big boot is that they can be difficult to drive a car with them on., would definitely recommend putting them on once you get to your spot.
  18. Thats some great information and i really appreciate you taking the time to age her. Based upon her huge size, i knew i was looking at a doe that was atleast 3.5 or better ,but couldn't say for sure. Its good to know shes a somewhat ole girl and smart to have eluded me and my neighbor all those years..lol..i went digging thru the bone pile and couldnt find her lower jaw, thinking my dad may have tossed her in a garbage bag. Next time i get a big ole girl like that i will be sure to keep the lower jaw and clean it up. Thx.
  19. You should not be allowed to hunt ever again, revoke your license forever.
  20. Is there a late season permit for Bow/ML? If so, i"d be more interested to what that permit read.
