He shoots my 10 point titan extreme. Yeah i hear ya on the 3 generations, i was fortunate to share my crossbow hunt this year with 2 of my boys and my dad. We all got to par take in retrieving the deer and butchering it. Heres a couple pics. Be sure to share your hunt with us and stop and slow down sometimes and take lots of pics. Not to hi jack your thread or preach to you but as we get older we need to slow down, relax and take everything in (take pictures). Ive always been the lets do it NOW and get it done type of person, now in last couple years i have learned to slow down if you know what i mean.

Yeah, i would have to agree if you had to go with a gun for an 8 yr. Old i cant see it being more powerful than a 243 or 6mm. I have 3 boys and i cant imagine my 7yr old shooting a 243 and i would say that would be the max caliber i would allow my 11 yr. Old to shoot. Tell ya what if he practices with that crossbow that could work out just as good. My 11 year old is deadly out to 30 yrds with my crossbow. Whichever you decide good luck and make memories to last him a lifetime, thats awesome.

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
NYBowhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Wow, must have been born that way? Theres no large visible scar and no hair missing, very unusual. Congrats. -
Oh yes the stuffed hot peppers with breadcrumbs, Dont forget the home made wine, olives, cheese and dried salamies (btw my fathers 77 yrs old. and still makes homemade cheese and olives). My father goes to the dairy farmer by our cabin and gets unpasteurized milk fresh from the stainless steel vats so he can make his homemade cheese and ragotta. Unfortunately its a dying craft.

Come on Philoshop, any Italian knows that aint lunch. Sunday afternoon meals for Italians is lunch and dinner all rolled into one..lol..the spaghetti, meatballs (both in the sauce and fried), neck bone, sausage, bread etc. or in your case a nice lasagna. .yummy..love those old school Italian mamas. Memories that never fade. Enjoy.

Being a 1st generation Italian/American and my 2 hunting partners being my dad and uncle which both came from the other side and having worked on farms in Italy they are not scared to eat anything (back in those days in Italy nothing food wise went to waste). In turn, i will eat just about anything myself. We have eaten deer testes, brains, toungue, liver, heart, etc.. you name it...lol...dont knock it until you tried it...

No unfortunately he left and i didnt get his number, the picture was on my laptop at home. -
Well heres the story, here iam opening morning of rifle its 10am and im dragging my 6 pointer out of my ditch to the road with the help of my cousin. As we get on the road a small car pulls up and we start to chat hunting. Shows me a 4 pointer he took that same morning (funny was stuffed in the truck of that tiny car), turns out he hunts on property that hes a care taker of at the end of my road. Now it gets interesting, he continues to tell me that hes in the DEC sportsman reg. Book for this year. Pulls out the book and there he is on page 68 i beleive check it out). Turns out that in December 8 2014 with the ML he shot a nontypical 12 pointer. Whats even more unusual i tell the guy i have a picture of his buck when it looked to be a 1 1/2 yr old back in August 2009, that would put this amazing buck at 6 1/2 years old. Why i think its the same buck, fist thing he told me was the buck had a unusual long nose (look at both pictures), also the U shape in both sides of horns. I always wondered what happed to that buck, now i can put that buck to rest.

Usually feet is what makes most people throw in the towel, the trick for me and my feet never get cold is i use 2k gram knee high rubber boots (needed as i walk thru a stream to get to a few of my stands. First i put on a thin dress sock and then put on socks made from Alpaca (thats the key ingredient, alpaca no other sock will do). This combo has been working for years. For the rest of my body including my head is lots of layers. I walk to stands minimally dressed, then put on layers in stand once i have cooled down.

Where do people find the time to come up with this stuff, jeez....just hunt and be happy!!!!! The only outcome of these topics is negative and in most cases will pit hunter against hunter. Its hunting season aren't there better topics to discuss like the rut,etc..hey Doc stop stirring the pot, get yourself a crossbow and get out there, its fun!!!

What do you do to try to bring the deer to you?
NYBowhunter replied to ApexerER's topic in Deer Hunting
This time of year I usually sit over a mock scrape that i open up every year. Typically will sit back and watch till 7 or 730 , then every 1/2 hr. Thereafter I'll hit the bleat can followed by a grunt tube till about 9:30 or 10am. I also lay down a scent trail to my stand then squirt doe in estrus in a near by tree and freshen up the mock srape. Worked like a charm on this guy, on saturday got him at 8am with his nose to the ground. -
Thats awesome, congrats to you and your boy.
