  1. Use my utv for most outdoor needs except going to and from my stand. Its a very useful and versatile piece of equipment. Most deer i drag out, but the utv saved the day a couple years ago when i had to haul a 230lb sow off the highest point of my property, what would have been a 1/2 day to get her out only took a 1/2 hr. With the utv.
  2. Great news, got your foot in the door. Hopefully they will expand the use into bow season.
  3. Lots of people with no brains in this world..
  4. Forget the call, print out the pictures and head out of Oneonta on Rt. 23 heading east for approx. 20 minutes and pay a visit to the local DEC on rt10 in Stamford. I hate tresspassers. Good luck.
  5. Like grow indicated if you are frost seeding over several inches of snow with no melt in sight you risk seed being eaten by birds, wind and if there is a drastic change in temps with a good thaw potential of seeds being washed away or piling up in spots. Wait for bare fozen ground with increase in temps. In near future, that week or thereafter.
  6. Smoke my jerky set at 130F for 16 to 18 hrs.
  7. White ladino clover works for a draw in my plots all year round. The problem with brassicas in my area is that deer never get the memo to wait until the first frost before they should start devouring it. Deer by me devour any brassicas i plant well before any frost. In my opinion, cant go wrong with a good quality large white clover. Keep it mowed to 6" high, fertilize and deer will continue to feed on it throughout the year.
  8. Hows this for snow piles, my cousin was up at his camp a couple days earlier then me and did me a huge favor and cleared around my camp before i get up there in the morning. Saved me from getting the tractor out and wasting a few hours.
  9. The only suggestion i can provide is that i typically go to my local agway for most my seeds and their prices are very fair to a point it doesn't make sense to buy mail order from a bulk seed company. If you don't have a local agway, may want to try mail order through Welter Seed and Honey Co.
  10. I have a box of horns laying around. Could be a cool winter project.
  11. Are people getting that rich off these windmills that makes them buy into this crap and destroy a beautiful landscape? What an eyesore. I don't think i could stand owning let alone hunt a property that had so many unnatural big unsightly objects all over. What a sad deal, the things people do to make a buck.
  12. Paranoia no, i think most people with some type of intellect take these news casts with a grain of salt but get prepared for the worst case scenario..crippling, unrelenting etc...are all good words to describe whats going on in Suffolk county right now, as one member posted "28 inches and still snowing". That's pretty significant in my book!
  13. Thats pretty cool, those guys are down to earth...choot em', choot em'..lol
  14. Im hoping to get out the city by 2 or 3 as well. Cant trust mass transit with this impeding storm.
  15. Yes hunters may indeed be taking bucks, however the focus from what ive read is dealing with an overabundance of deer.
  16. If im not mistaken he uses a few different bows, different poundages and shoots ambidextrous. They explained that a true traditional archer should be able to shoot ambidextrous, shoot different bows, varying poundage, varying angles, no set anchor point and still be fast and very accurate.so i think there are a couple different bow makes that he uses.
  17. I guess you missed the scenes where he shot multiple targets within seconds of each other and on one occasion the targets were quite a bit aways ..instinctively that takes skill..
  18. I agree, the alpaca socks are the best kept secret out there..lol..i might have to stop by that alpaca farm to see about the gloves, the owner has hats, scarfs etc..im sure she has alpaca gloves.
  19. I have hunted in single digit temps. for hours on end in a tree with no cold feet issues. What has worked for me are 2000 gram thinsulate rubber boots (cabelas brand), the secret is to first put on a thin dress sock and over that the best kept secret is to use socks made from alpaca fur. I have a local alpaca breeder i get these socks from, im sure you can find them online but they are not cheap, couple years ago think i paid $22 a pair (well worth the money) and they work unbelievably well with the combination i noted above. You also need to ensure that you have enough room in the boot where you can move your toes periodically. Drives me nuts in the past where i had boots with no wiggle room..lol..so thats my secret to staying on stand longer then most hunters.
