  1. Not quite Myth Busters... http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/news/local/blogs/environment/2015/09/15/mountain-lion-in-bergen-swamp/72303014/
  2. Is this a magnum receiver that can handle 3 inch shells ? - would have an "M" suffix serial number-
  3. Got one of the original plot watchers 5 or 6 years ago, and ran it for a few years watching fields & plots Ran it in time lapse mode taking pictures every 10 or 30 seconds, sun up to sun down; runs through a lot of memory doing that. Use 8 GB thumb drives and was swapping them out once a week. Battery life was surprisingly good, but didn't run it in really cold weather. Because of the time lapse and low resolution, you didn't get alot of details unless you set the camera up close to where the deer were traveling. Website doesn't seem to have too much about the original plot watcher model I had http://day6outdoors.com/index.php Actually had more fun with the camera doing stuff like this: http://youtu.be/3XGLBuAGQ40
  4. From today's Canandiagua Daily Messenger
  5. Shooting a CVA buckhorn with similar results. Been carrying it for 3 deer seasons and used it last year for woodchucking. I know what Elmo means about the feel of the stock, but it sure is solid... and lightweight.
  6. Anyone notice that they are no longer able to edit their own posts from a web browser ? I can edit from tapatalk app.. Interesting... I can edit this post, but none of my previous ones. <<confusion>>
  7. A trophy wall hanger is nice.Meat in the freezer is better. But this type of encounter is trurly what hunting is all about.
  8. 8J Reporting in - 29 degrees with a stiff breeze on the walk in this am. Woods have been quite; not a lot of movement, but starting to wake up. No shots heard in the distance yet.
  9. I know them both... waiting for "the rest of the story"...
  10. Last year before registration kicked in, I was going to build my daughters a left handed 10-22.... They are both right handed but shoot left. Figured with a thumb-hole stock they would get a more solid grip. Once I realized thumb-hole equals an evil feature, I decided that they'd be stuck with standard grip. edited to add: Oh yea, and did I mention that I can still go on-line and find thumb-hole stocks with very few places restricting sales to NYS.... but if I want a bucket of bullets that's a no-no. Thanks unSAFE ACT.
  11. Nope.None. Zero. Zilch. That's the rub with the UNSAFE ACT... no exemptions for rimfires.
  12. Yepper....Follow the interactive guide here: http://programs.governor.ny.gov/nysafeact/registration-questionnaire
  13. 43 years old here. Started at 16 and haven't missed an opening day yet. 10 or 15 years ago I would take either 1 or 2 weeks off for the season. Now, due to changes in work responsibilities, I'm limited to sneaking out of work early or taking off a day here or there.
  14. 16 year old daughter's first deer. Shot it at ~20 yards, he went less then 50 before dropping. Single lung shot. Right side is 4 points, left side broken off above brow tine. Smile on her face says it all.
  15. Hit Wally world in Canandaigua at lunchtime. No line and clerks confirmed problems with system over the weekend. Only 1 DMU marked as out. Got 2 for 8H. In and out the door in 10 minutes.
  16. I have one that I bought 3 or 4 years ago.... Works OK for spring turkey hunting with a shotgun. I use it more this time of year during my daughters' high school soccer games. Works great keeping the wind and rain off ya.
  17. Friend of mine is the manager... he recently posted this on facebook. Has some pictures of different sections of the store. And yes, they will be selling firearms. http://runnings.com/canandaigua-ny/
  18. More Breaking news.... Photos of the Cougar have been discovered !
  19. Could it be a bait set-up for coyotee ? Seems a bit overkill (no pun intended) Sent from my SGH-I927 using Tapatalk
  20. Are you gonna swap out the factory stock for something beefier that will allow the barrel to free float ? Interested to see what kind of accuracy you get out of the VTR barrel. The past few years, I've set-up a .308 & 22-250 both using the SPS Varmint barrel as my base... really wanted to use the VTR but most reviews I read said it wasn't as accurate as the 26" on the SPS-V. Looking to upgrade the glass on the 22-250, the Vortex is looking like a good option.
