What would an off-grid cabin like this cost?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Core's topic in General Hunting
how handy are you and how much work are you willing to do yourself? -
Ok. I have hunted in many areas of the state and I've seen my share of 6 and 8's that were 1.5's I have boxes of those antlers. Take my statement and remove the 8 pointers and let's just use the 6 points.

But to most of the folks wanting AR's it IS because they want a chance at a better buck. So taking the highest quality year and a half olds out of the mix is counter productive to me. If their goal is to be able to shoot more mature deer with bigger racks it would be far better to let all the the 1.5's go. That is where the education comes in so they can identify what they have in front of them and then make their call. My point was mainly at the guys that push the AR's and then show a pic of a 6 or 8 point 1.5's all pumped up and talking about the spikes and 4 points they passed on. Those are the same deer as the ones they took.

The signs must be legible and include the name and address of the landowner or authorized person using the land. Homemade signs are acceptable if they follow these rules. Signs must be located no more than 660 feet apart along the boundary of the area your wish to protect and facing both directions at a corner. You have a duty to make the signs visible and conspicuous, without being an eyesore. Missing signs need to be replaced each year. If you secure a sign directly to a tree, aluminum nails will prevent tree health problems.

and is it a stretch---??? S 145.14 Criminal tampering in the third degree. A person is guilty of criminal tampering in the third degree when, having no right to do so nor any reasonable ground to believe that he has such right, he tampers with property of another person with intent to cause substantial inconvenience to such person or to a third person. Criminal tampering in the third degree is a class B misdemeanor.

Look up NY state penal code under criminal mischief.

Can you prove who did it?

I just don't get the patting of ones self on the back for passing up on a spike or 4 point, then be perfectly satisfied with a year and a half old 6 or 8 pointer and then praise the attributes or AR's. Biologically there is no difference in taking any one of the 4 that I mentioned. They are the same animal.

Handling after the shot and proper cooking techniques are everything.

Well if you didn't hit the heart, you really weren't high enough to get into the major veins and arteries so it pretty much had to be lung in my book. You aren't far enough back to get the liver.

this section is taken at the heart. moving back a bit the heart disappears and the lungs fill in. Especially on very steep angles it is VERY important to aim at your exit hole.

I am at a loss on this post. The deer was dead and had to have been gutted. What did you hit? The answer was right in front of you

I'm with ya. I think we are in the same mindset on this.

I probably din't explain that all that well. I did mean if they wanted to small game hunt in addition to deer hunting I would opt for a shotgun. I have shot way more deer with a shotgun that a rifle just becasue of the amount of time I carried one. I still hunt in a couple areas that don't allow rifle so it gets to go on a walk around at least a weekend a year.
-
I had 5 deer on the same Montec G5 broadhead and it still is in good shape. 2 times it had gone through the off side shoulder blade too. They are tough but I really don't like the blood trail. I switched to Rage Extremes last year but have yet to try them.

If I were giving a newbie advice on a new gun and they were on a tight budget I would have to ask what they really wanted to hunt. If it was purely deer I would probably say rifle. If they also wanted to small game hunt I would have to suggest a shotgun. In both cases I would suggest a used firearm if they were really trying to keep the cost down. Lots of good deals to be had if someone wants to spend a little time and they don't wait until the last minute.

I grew up shotgun hunting. No rifles allowed where I was and hunted. I can see how they beat folks up at the range but I can't honestly say that I remember the recoil of the slug gun while shootign at deer. (or a rifle for that matter). (not counting the two times I got scope eye...lol) Inside 50-75 yards there is something to be said about the 1 ounce of lead with that diameter hitting a deer. I've taken more deer off their feet immediately with a shotgun than I have with a rifle. This past spring bear hunt I went on in Quebec, the guide actually prefers a 12 ga with slug over a rifle for the hunting. He said he like the hitting power and the bigger hole for blood since they are so fatty. Those bait distances were in the 75 and under range.

That is sad to hear. Hope the "kids" feel better soon and everything go well during the surgery. -
Not even a single sit. Right spot at right time and a 2 minute window...lol

i get a bigger kick out of his newbie mistake of getting a machete to use as a hunting knife...lol. I see more new hunters over knifed. I'd carry a steak knife out of the kitchen before I would that thing.
