22mag or a 17?
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
That is weird. I have read numerous articles that say the opposite. The ballistic tip 17's going into the animals, releasing all energy and not making it back out. -

Have you seen the reviews and ballistics on the 17 Hornet? -

Savage / Hornady has a newer 17 out there. In the Savage 25 and on my to pick up list the 17 Hornet. Getting good from what I have read so far. Ammo is a bit pricey in comparison. Just saw your last post. I guess since you want to be boring I'd get the 17...lol -

Ever had a run-in while hunting?

I got kicked off a property I bow hunt up north. The guy came in late, saw me and walked up to my stand and told me to get off the property. I asked if he knew who owned it and he replied that his cousin did. I climbed down and extended my hand to shake his. He refused and I said that was a sh!tty attitude to have between cousins. He said "we ain't cousins". My response was that he should reconsider his story then and get off the property becasue my cousin DID own it. He did. -
since the 2x12 was across them i drilled and dropped i bolts through from the 2x12. washers and nuts on both sides. 2x12 screwed to the top the bottom cord of the trusses

It was ideal for us because we wanted the option to use it to pull up multiple deer

on the first comment----go fu....awe never mind I am old. lol On the fire rating. single layer of 5/8" rated drywall, taped joints and studs no more than 2' on center would be fine IIRC. Solid metal penetrating it are fine with fire calk around it per manufactures recommendations. I had a brother in law that bought a house. in the inspection the garage hatch was noticed and written up. It had to be corrected. Once he moved in he put it right back. (against my recommendations)

I would venture to say it's a combination of factors. An increase in Raptor and canine populations coupled with a maturing forest . The less efficient small farms that were common back then left a lot of harvest in the fields. There were a lot of hedgerows and brush lands becasue the equipment was smaller on the farms and was not necessary to plant every square inch of the property. Cash cropping is a different approach now.

Everything we have done in our cutting area had one factor in mind. Avoiding any bending. counters and cutting tables set to the right height, winch to adjust he deer to standing while skinning and deboning. Nothing make you dread cutting up deer like knowing your back is going to bother you afterwards.

I took that pic before we brought your buck in and hung it up

I know you only shoot the monster bucks so you may want to add a few dollars and get the one that has load braking. The deer won't drift down on you then. https://www.harborfreight.com/3500-lb-atvutility-electric-winch-with-automatic-load-holding-brake-61257.html

you buy the beer and I'll come help.

this isn't a great pic. mainly becasue of some of the outlaws in it. you can see at the top how we put I bolts through.. the winch is off screen on the left. I use ropes with eyes so I can hang 3 by using the winch and the winch is put on the one being trimmed so you don't have to bend much. you can see the battery we hook into.
-
honestly if you are hanging one deer at a time i would span 3 of them and leave the winch mounted to the wall. maybe across two studs in the wall.

I Got Bit...ignorant dog owners are out there
Culvercreek hunt club replied to greg54's topic in General Chit Chat
I don't see anyone arguing. I think is is very useful to discuss these things and think about the possibility. Lord knows in the heat of it there isn't time to discuss them. As with most laws it would seem like the standard could be different for each of us. per the penal code 10. "Serious physical injury" means physical injury which creates a substantial risk of death, or which causes death or serious and protracted disfigurement, protracted impairment of health or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily organ. -
that bold is correct IF the wall is. I have seen many garages that rely on the ceiling as the barrier.
-
if that bottom cord of a truss is spliced I don't like bottom loading them. I have done it, but try to stay as close the the wall that the truss rests on as possible, staying away from the middle. a Truss ins't designed to be loaded from the bottom, but we cross 5 trusses with a 2x12 laying down and our eyebolts drop down through that. We hang up to 3 deer off them at a time.

It is a tough call. Since a German Shepard is a sizable animal, was not alone and a resolvable person could be n fear of serious injury AND you he was bitten, sure sounds like it would be ok NY Agricultural and Market Law, § 123-a. Exemption from civil liability. 1. If any dog shall, withoutjustification, attack a person, or behaves in a manner which areasonable person would believe poses a serious and unjustified imminentthreat of serious physical injury to a person, when such person ispeaceably conducting himself in a place where he may lawfully be, suchperson or any other person witnessing the attack or threatened attackmay destroy such dog while so attacking, and no liability in damages orotherwise shall be incurred on account of such destruction.2. If any dog shall, without justification, attack a companion animal, farm animal or domestic animal, or shall behave in a manner which areasonable person would believe poses a serious and unjustified imminentthreat of serious physical injury or death to a companion animal, farmanimal or domestic animal, where such animal is in any place where itmay lawfully be, the owner or caretaker of such animal, or any otherperson witnessing the attack, may destroy such dog, and no liability indamages or otherwise shall be incurred on account of such destruction. -
Sorry for your loss Larry. Sounds like Kathy has her head in the right place in life. You should be proud.

we use a cheap 2500# ATV winch. I think it was $80 at harbor freight. It runs on 12 volt so we tossed an old car battery on a shelf next to it and put a trickle charger on it to keep it up during the season. https://www.harborfreight.com/2500-lb-atvutility-electric-winch-with-wireless-remote-control-61297.html ours has a wired remote. This one is wireless. also pick up the mounting plate for $5 to make mounting it easier should have mentioned the winch is wall mounted and the cable through a simple pulley at the ceiling. and about the Garage ceiling. Depending on the configuration and how the fire barriers ar it may be "out of code" to have a hatch in the ceiling. That said. I would add one too. just be careful adding weight to trusses by storing a lot of crap up there.
