  1. But only for the very caring parental bears of the southern zone. They realize the Northern zone is filled with less than ideal parents bears and that is why they allow you to shoot them out of a group up there. They probably know they are better of on their own that to learn the poor northern zone habits.
  2. Not just a Browning issue. I had a Remington 7400 in '06 that did the same. after two years I gave up and bought a 700 BDL. Now the only semi auto hunting rifles I own are 22
  3. Is "politician" to general of a category?...lol. Depends on the setting for some of my answers. mice and rats, always. Squirrels and chipmunks if they decide that barns, garage, house and especially flowers beds are theirs and not mine. Woodchucks in most cases, but especially when they tunnel under my vegetable garden fence or under the back deck. The neighbors rooster....did I say that out loud?
  4. I would pay higher license fees to see every licensing outlet have a scanner or some sort. scan in your filled and unfilled tags or you don't get them for the following year.
  5. I've got a couple ideas about accounts here that might even be King Andy's
  6. interesting write up. I get a chuckle about their estimates of successful hunter percentages that are reporting. I picture a phone call asking if you reporting you deer that were taken and the subsequent knock on the door issuing a ticket for not doing it. I wonder how they arrived at those numbers.
  7. I don't have an issue doing it but I was just pointing out it still misses a large portion of the harvest and will likely increase cutting costs. Basically a tax. Raise the price to cover it and the percentage of folks using a butchers would likely decease. Not to drag another thread into this but is a small sample is accurate for a poll I would think the accuracy of a small sample here would be as accurate?
  8. 8-15 deer a year in our group wouldn't show either.
  9. sounds like the ammo checks...lol how do you take into account the many many folks that butcher their own? seems to be a growing trend with process pricing getting so high and imposing rags on processors will only push that higher and send more folks to cutting their own.
  10. That is their old plan. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/deerplan2012.pdf
  11. I saw a similar situation in the late 70's up in Tug Hill. Hundreds or yarded deer in different states of starvation, surrounded by barkless trees
  12. So what are you saying? the 1.5 year old bucks can't keep up with breeding so you need mature ones to do it?
  13. That is why nurseries and orchards can get antlered nuisance tags. But my point is there shouldn't be nuisance tags. If they want the damage controlled, then open your lands. If you CHOOSE not to that is your choice, but deal with the damage or handle it yourself.
  14. How would you have liked that Joe before you now hunted?
  15. I am not talking about protecting I go all deer. If we are that far out of whack a buck lottery draw will allow less buck take. Take whatever you want but the buck Harvey numbers will be controlled by area. And I would get Kansas has no where near the hunter numbers that NY does
  16. How about buck on a 100% lottery system then? No landowner preference and must be for a specific WMU.
  17. Funny that the parties in favor of Sunday gun are using about the same discussion points that Bow used to get Sundays. They found them valid points at that time, Huh?
  18. I was wondering if the duck hunters were also gun hunters. The number of days would have remained the same available but it they were out deer hunting they wouldn't be able to take advantage of the Sunday duck days. If anything every happened to Sunday hunting here again, Duck hunting would be a good fall back. I grew up hunting Sundays in Central NY. Moved out to the Rochester area and it blew my mind that you couldn't hunt Sundays. The Change to Sundays in WNY effectively doubled the season for many many hunters without extending season start or end dates.
  19. I like to take any type of ground venison in sausages up to 160. (the suggested temp for ground beef to avoid all those nasties.)
  20. Easiest to remember this way, the only time you can carry a pistol while deer hunting is when a pistol would be legal for that season.
  21. attempts at population control through buck harvest is short term at best. True population control is only achieved through doe harvest. If specific areas have uncontrollable, high numbers then processes/programs like the use in 8C should be implemented. I still assert that the biggest hurdle to controlling/maintaining the populations in the out of control areas is Access, Access, Access.
