Hammer vs Hammerless .38
Culvercreek hunt club replied to BKhunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
And do you think it is coincidence that Pygmy is always in the mix? -
just to clarify. I think it is 3 circumferences and the bases. hope NY ANTLER chimes in on how to score the spikes and 4's
-
That spike would be worth a shoulder mount.
-
you are right. but it only gets 3 even if it is a 12 pointer. I brought that up because I cant see any other way that spike could get to 100. I would think the spike would at least get 2 on each side. the base and at midway but I have never seen a spike or a 4 point measured so I don't know.
-
I got what you are saying now. amend the law to allow a reduction if passed by the local government, which make the state 500' a regulation rather than a minimum (that can be amended). The only issue I see with that is at what level does this occur? For example. what if Monroe County takes that action because of the 8C deer problem but the town of Greece doesn't want it? They would have to take an action anyway to reverse it in their jurisdiction.

A Little Closer Look at the Bear Program Proposal

Looks like crop circles when they are in it. One area I hunt the farmer (cash farmer) quit planting corn because he kept having so much damage. -
A Little Closer Look at the Bear Program Proposal
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Doc's topic in Bear Hunting
That is probably one of the best arguments for the baiting part of the proposal. For me a bear was one of the toughest to estimate the actual size of. in a natural setting and little frame of reference they sure look bigger than they are. besides protecting the bait, one reason they use the 55 gallon drums for baiting is to estimate size. -
In many of the articles I have read regarding the Urban and suburban deer problems it appears the DEC has been in consultation with many of these local governments. I agree the set back should be a tool available and not utilized in an across the board scenario. The one DEC official I read, commented that CT had a 0 set back rule. and no issues of safety, but they also allow baiting in many of the high populated areas. Kind of like you say Doc, isn't the big woods hunting many of us grew up doing. At that point is just using the hunter as a tool. and one that the municipalities don't have to pay for like they do for sharp shooters.
-
I have to relocate an article I saw yesterday that spoke just bout this. Had some good quotes from DEC officials.
-
I think you are wrong, Doc. It doesn't say it will be enacted statewide. It give the DEC the ability to change it.
-
EXACTLY!!! Currently the municipalities can't do anything but increase it.
-
Doesn't every beam get 3 circumference measurements?

What draw length is this set up for? -
.380 ACP or even a 22LR. you only need that much power to take out the knee cap of the person you are with.

Governor Announces Support for Crossbows in NY
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Tinlodge's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Not how I meant it. I meant it in the context of your "could care less about it because it doesn't effect me" attitude. And in that list there wasn't one mention of any efforts for being politically active, getting involved in an organization to protect 2nd Amendment rights, being involved in an organization to promote conservation or our hunting heritage. I did however see a lot of I I I I I I . So please see my previous comment. Poster boy for what is wrong with this State and country -

I am going to make one more comment and then I am done. Too far off topic and I apologize. I really don't have a problem with some forms of safeguards that WORK. That are not arbitrary and that are enforceable. I love the fact the safe act took a strong approach to increase the penalties for the crimes. I wish they had gone farther. BUT the majority of the safe act does nothing. why 5 year renewal of the pistol permit? if I lose it for cause come take the pistols and the permit. why a background check on ammo? how many crooks are buying over the counter at dick's and Gander? They can't currently for pistol ammo because they don't have a permit. a very small fraction of crimes and murder is committed with Rifles of any sort. even smaller with those evil assault weapons. A mag restriction is also a do nothing law. the fractions it takes to switch out do nothing to stop crime. The bulk of this ill-conceived law is bore by the law abiding gun owners. The criminals, by definition, aren't going to give a crap about it anyway. I think the background checks for sales of guns, even private sales is a good thing. My concern with giving any ground however is the rabid mentality of the ones pushing this agenda. Openly the Left has said they wouldn't mind all guns being gone and confiscation wouldn't bother them. I believe they mean it. -

Hammer vs Hammerless .38
Culvercreek hunt club replied to BKhunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
why the .38 if you aren't going to conceal? The hammerless would be a true double action only. right? I like the option of being able to shoot my 357's in single action. big trigger pull and accuracy difference IMO -

Hence Doewacker's humor because a "conservative" in NY, especially Ithaca is a liberal in many other parts of the country. -

I guess that that was directed towards me. That must be a Civil War abbreviation for my name. Who said you wouldn't get anything worth while out of a curriculum like that. guilty for calling you an idiot and I stand by that. (see comment above). I did not run down a good school. If you are feeling guilty about that place then that is your burden to carry. I only pointed out that it shouldn't be a surprise that a liberal came out of that institution or town. Now are you going to enlighten us on how Ithaca isn't a Liberal hotbed -
