  1. You can't use this chart unless you are in the region in line with Albany. The times listed are ALBANY times only. In the Reg book there is a chart that has plus and minus amounts from the times in the table. They plus and minus times will be what the weather channel lists for your specific area.
  2. The hell with it...I just ordered the LEM 5# stuffer. $140 to the door. Through Amazon. They had a better price than LEM direct.
  3. Here is where I get made fun of...lol. My 700 bdl holds 5----buttstock shel holder has 9 and there is always a full box in my pack. that is 34. come on!!! you never know when WW III might break out when you are deep in the woods and you only have what you are carrying. Seriously though I got caught out on a track of a buddys wounded buck with my shotgun and ran out of ammo. Had 15 with me. It was a 1/2 hour walk to the truck for more. For some reason deer never run closer to the vehicle I swore I would never get caught like that again.
  4. You should. It is hunting and you never know. I have been on some tracking trips following a wounded deer and 6 woulnd't have gotten the job done. would hate to come of a trail to have to run to the car to get more ammo. . I wuold throwthe other box in your pack as a "just in case"
  5. Use the drill bet they sell for them. The hole size is critical and over drill the depth of the scew at least 1/2"...ie. 2-1/2" screw drill 3" deep minimum. Use the 1/4" diameter ones. If you have a drill that has a hammer setting it is ok to use it with those drill bits.
  6. I will be bringing my double gun case to camp for the week. I will have as my primary, Remington 700bdl in .30-06. Back up will be my Model 94 winchester in .30-30.
  7. Who's got the link to NYB for Elmo....sorry couldn't resist
  8. Hey Grow, DOes the LEM have metal top gears or nylon ones?
  9. That must of been your first trip Fantail...I see the second trip got caugt on film http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2769116/posts
  10. Over the last week or so out here the does are really skiddish. I think the over enthusiastic young bucks have them on their toes. The full moon allows them to feed more easily at night. If they so much as blink the young bucks are harrassing them. They aren't ready and a avoiding their normal areas/times. My thoughts on a possible anyway. I think a mature buck will be checking them but not at the nose to the tail kind of distance right now. When they get heat full blown I think your big guys will show and then the little ones won''t be around for fear of the ass kicking they will get.
  11. Check out Tapcons. At 1/4" diameter and 2-1/2" embedment you get over 1,500# in tension (pull out force) If you have 4 base anchors in the safe that is like having a 6,000# wieght anchoring it down. I used these on my safe and it is solid as a rock. Nice thing is I didn't have to drill any larger holes in the safe and I was able to drill with the safe in its final position. And if you change your mind thes come out very easily and just leave a 1/4" hole in the concrete. I would suggest getting the hex head style if you do it becase the phillips can strip out pretty easily.
  12. Wegman's? Are they out on the shelves or do you have to ask for them?
  13. +1- I have seen them go over 100 yards without any sign of blood. I love seeing early snow. I think it really helps anyone that may not have great experience in following up long enough to find blood. Fat is our enemy. It can act just like a cork in a bottle.
  14. This is myy 30th season with a gun and 26th with a bow. Knock on wood I have taken 14 deer with a bow and haven't lost one yet. Last year up north I shot a doe with my ML and tracked it for almost 2 miles. It crossed the NZ/SZ line and the famer on that side of the line wouldn't let me retieve. That was the first deer with a gun that I have lost. She never laid down and I was able to follow blood with some effort. The hoof prints in the mud looked good so i am pretty sure it wasn't a leg shot. Not really sure where I hit her. It was a good standing broadside shot. The farmer asked where she had crossed before he turned down permission so I at least think it didn't go to waste...just in his freezer and not mine.
  15. .30-06 - 30-30 amd Encore ML are all prep's and ready to go . I am headed for camp bright and early on Friday morning and hunting the opener theough the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Can't wait. This week will be packing and cooking to get ready for the week. First time in the 4 years we have had the land that everything up there is 100% ready for the season. Usually this Friday is a scurry to get stuff ready. Wood is all in, stands are all trimmed all done right down to the beds being made. Is it Thursday yet? Good luck to everyone. Reception is spotty up there but I will try to check in to see all the great pics posted.
  16. I haven't let an arrow go yet his year and I still have to say it has been a good bow season. We are all breathing and able to take part in it. On a whole I would say the sightings were down this year. I saw more bucks than does, which happened last year as well. I think our bow season on the property I hunt was affected by the standing corn acroos the street from the property. From the trails and sign I see going into the corn it has to be stuffed with deer. The property I hunt is typically a great late season gun piece. once the soybeans are harvested they hit it like crazy once snow hits the ground....but that is different this year as well. They harvested last week and then this Friday and Saturday they plowed the entire piece under. Not much frage value left there....lol.
  17. Amen VIrgil, I would be willing to bet the same ones that act this way with a bow are also acting the same way with a gun. But son'r call any of these guys on ther choices....seems that is mean and they get all offended. Well you know what...you can get offended...I am, when I hear of the piss poor choices being made out there. (and they are choices).
  18. Makes me sick....put your fathers, mother's and taxpayers hard earned money to good use. Go study. That is what you are there for. We haven't heard all there is to hear yet. I bet the entire scope of the scandal wont be known for a while
  19. FYI- It appears the study followed the development of individual deer and I can't find what it says about how those genes are passed on the the other generations. It seems to not address the does genetic contribution to the racks. The study was conducted in a high fence environment though. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/find_a_wma/list/?id=12&section=deerPens
  20. I honestly don't think we as hunters can effect the wild population of the free ranging herd to modify characteristics. Way too many variables. It would be like trying to modify the human population to all brown eyes by taking the blue eyed males out, without seeing what the mothers eyes were. LOL. I was going to try to get into a genetics on the B vs b for eyes and I decided I didn't want to stretch what I remembered from all those years ago in Bio...lol. Memory isn't what it used to be. I have the same problem in the area I hunt at home. A rack with 4" brow tines is great. usually they are less than that or not even there. First buck I took on that property was in 94 and havent seen one on the ground yet with brow tines longer. A lot of really nice racks but lacking in brows
  21. I can't over state what WNY said earlier. You guys would be chasing your tails to try to do anything in a wild situation. It is impossible to determine what the contribution of the does in your area are. You could have monster bucks with 12" brows and the does genetics could toss it out the window.
  22. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=260070276 Seems like one in good condition is 450-550...more for the DL Just a point of interst....how bad was the A$$ kicking you gave him?..lol. Good luck.
  23. No pun intended I I would bet he knew full well what was going on. I would bet quite a few of the officials there did. Like Doe said...it is driven by money. This type of thing is NEVER an isolated incident. Has anyone heard of other kids coming out with reports?
