  1. All the trees in my area have apples hitting the ground. I see all the crops ahead of usual...corn has also started....and tht definitely doesn't break my heart. Acorns and beechnuts are down....just makes me glad my food plots are doing well....might make thwm really draw. I just hope the food sources hold out and we don't get hit with an early and long winter....it might really stress the herd
  2. The friendly conversation route is always step one....and usually the info is of better quality
  3. I would think with todays computers it should work like this.....lottery the first picks...if any are left....mail them to those who made it their second selection....based on random from the whole pool...or the ones that bought them first...until thw quantity is gone....mu 2 cents
  4. Hold off on the praise for now...I hope I can get it. I am not even sure if that type of info would be available through a FOIL request...regardless of the topic, Doc, I stay pretty consistent...I hate others imposing their views on others. You guys have seen some of my trail cam pics...I don't see a need in my areas. Those willing to hunt hard and hold out have a good chance at a mature buck. But I believe that should be their choice. I also question the high fence mentality that I worry about invading our sport. Aside from all of that....I want to see and understand the basis of the decision...but truthfully....part of me doubts it exists. I am on a mission now...lol
  5. Sorry...I can't comment on that...not sure
  6. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I appreciate it...I am using chantix...the worst part is the habit....routine stuff...like the cup of coffee in the morning....or driving....my jaw is sore from chewing gum...lol. I got it this time though
  7. I know....that is why I am traveling this week....so I don't get divorced...lol
  8. They need to get tougher on enforcement...I know with budget cuts they are down on the CO's in th field....but I'd be all for the increase of fines and 100% of it going to enfoecement budget...not sure how much goes there now from the fines.....but probably in true NY fashion....most if not all probably hits the general fund
  9. I am with these guys....bring him...best learning he can do is following you and watching...they are little sponges...good and bad
  10. One week yesterday....or was it a year....seems like a year
  11. Already on my to do list, Doc...just for my own peace of mind. I am in Maine but in the next few weeks I will be in that neck of the woods. I want to understand the numbers and their decisions in case this gets considered for any of the areas I enjoy
  12. My initial post with those stated they were by county and didn't totally overlay the wmu's
  13. John...I respect that opinion...I see conflicting reports but it is not needed in the areas I hunt...when someone says he only refers to his area and post comment for the terrible condition of the state herd....and provides info that is not statistically substantiated.....I have a problem with that....if some one can find before and after numbers...I will believe it then. Call me doubting Thomas....I have to be able to put my fingers in the wound when the Govt is involved
  14. I spent 3 winters on construction projects ....it was freaking cold....really cold. I saw good weather too...but when it hits...brrrr
  15. I guess I am just jaded when it comes to any Govt agency feeding me results with no statistical back up. I really don't care if they keep it in your area or not. If you read all my post I have stayed consistent...don't beat your chest and claim overwhelming support based on a 2% sample....don't claim biological benefit for the herd without statistical backup...especially when both ny and pa say none was identified....and don't try to push it on the rest of us....like the cut and paste exerpts you passed off as your own....I would have more respect for a guy that just said...I see it and I like it without misinformation trying to support false claims....if I want that I'll buy a few sham.wows
  16. That is one benefit of more wide open spaces....also helps when the weather is so freaking cold....only crazies wanna be out in it...lol
  17. I know that enforcement in some areas with very depressed folks is less than enthusiastic...and I agree with it. I would never balk at a down and out guy putting food on the table. I know CO's that won't bust their chops if done discretly and safely. But all others...they need to screw them into the wall and prosecute to the fullest...I get sick finding a buck with the skull cap cut off and the animal left to rot
  18. High fence mentality.....don't get me ranting on another thread...lol....this nicotine withdrawl sucks...lol
  19. Lol....pass....passs.pass...is not analytic research....show me prior...unbiased numbers. And post unbiased numbers and then you can take a stab at supporting your position. I don't have acess right now but I think I remember seeing on DEC that. While this contributed to more mature bucks they could not find any substantial justification for applying it to more areas. So in my book...you guys want bigger bucks....and the hell with what others want....and don't give me your unsuoported 77% crap....on the point of whether I have a say over there.....even if I don't hunt it......I do...as long as they are appling it to state land I pay for....I still feel you guys are to willing to impose your preference on others
  20. Hunter...looking back at your lengthy post...I can't quote because I am on my phone....either it was you or an article you posted as yours...clearly you are talking about the herd health across the state...clearly...and based on the data I found that shows what a small sample your BIG 77% number represents...I put no faith in any of you assurtions. Basically...all the numbers I see in this thread mean nothing....the data is not available to make a true analysis....you know....keep talking about the veiw of hunters down there and their satisfaction level....if you believe this and your veiw is not based in selfish gratification....why don't you lobby to get a mandatory...full....survey done of all big game license holders in those areas....maybe then 2% won't be speaking for 14000
  21. Fairgame....you are saying that because of this AR there are more bucks now than before?
  22. There is one other point you made that really frosts me. You say our outdated traditions are a detriment to the whole states herd. You took exception when I said you wanted to impose your views on others and commented it was just your area. The areas of the state I hunt...NZ and SZ have none of your claimed herd issues. 12+ mature bucks on an 80 acre parcel is no problem....you sound as though you are entitled to a big buck. Your attitude is one that is running out of control like wildfire in our society today....whether we are talking about big bucks....jobs...or food stamps....the sense of entitlement is nuts. You mock the traditions so many hold dear....my advice to you nd others is get back to those traditions...the important ones. Perhaps you are new to this...or were never shown what is important about this sport...or maybe yiu just forgot...but try it. You will find it more fulfilling than any rack.....sorry...1 week with no cigarettes
  23. While I appreciate your argument, it is flawed. To compare animal husbandry to AR is apples and oranges. AH is controlled with the specific genetic characteristics selected prior to insemination. AR is still leaving it to mother nature with no guarantee the desired effexts will be reached. If your goal is large racks then true genetic manipulation woould have to occur as in AH. The other flaw in your statement...you appear to suggest the age of the breeding buck would effect his genetic make up. The truth is....if that 1.5 year old breeds now or when he is 6.5....he will be passing on the same genetic code. Age has no bearing on that make up. To take you argument one step further. If you premise were true...you want the mature bucks breeding...wouldn't logic say to remove the smaller bucks. In a true AH situation you keep the mature breeding bull and cull the younger bulls for processing.
  24. John....that was me with the cam....it was a one piece screw in that had the traction surface like a file....it filed a notch in the cam. I solved it by putting electrical shrink tube over them. I really like the 2 piece pivot ones though...gotta get a few of those
