  1. Ok....honesty time...nothing tastes better out of my smoker than a hind quarter of a deer that has only been on solid food a few months...sorry just honesty...lol. the two worst tasting deer I have had are my two biggest mounts. I should have ground them all up....aside from the loins and backstraps.
  2. WNY---you read it will be allowed in gun season in Archery only areas?
  3. Hell I have to sell a bunch of guns and buy some new ones to keep up with you guys. I am WAY undergunned for this crowd. .375 has to take them right off their feet in cartwheels. Watched a buddy hit a doe at 40 yards with his 10 ga. and I thought someone pulled the carpet out from under her.
  4. Ok....200 yards with todays Shotgun is very doable. IF the conditions are right and I have a prone or bipod shot I would take it anyday. I have taken 2 deer with my 11-87 at between 200 and 225 and you don't need 4 feet of hold over either. Shortly before that though I was on a range out to 350 at a buddies house and we put 100 rounds through it from 100 out to 300 to see what it would do. from 250 to 300 the bottom falls right out of it...lol
  5. WT...I am looking for one right now, too. The new ones are crazy expensive. 800-2500.
  6. Deepnding on their operations you may be able to use it to your advantage. That few trees someing out shouldn't take them very long. I am surprised they are taking oaks less 8". barely a marketable log. Anyway. if they are logging in mainly one area hunt the other aras of the property. Might be worth a quick conversation with the logger to find out his duration and sequence. You might be able to use them as a funneling aid to put the deer in the area you are and the loggers aren't. We use to cut logs growing up for firewood. I have had a lot of deer walk up on me while cutting. Curiousity, I think. Dad use to joke he was going to start a saw on opening day and sit it on a stump next to him to attract them..
  7. Scot, DO you live at the location you hunt? Mine is 2 hours remote from where i live. The problem I have is, if I don't take a hard line to get the word out, you never see the guys gong in. If I see one it could be his tenth trip in there that season. I have found gut piles and it pisses me off.
  8. I have had the same experience ....need to get it out there early and brush them in. Think of it this way. If you left for work and when you came home there saw an extra couch place in the corner of you living room...would it alarm you...would you notice it?. We are hunting in their living rooms. I have only taken one six pointer out of mine. the doe 15 minutes before he came through busted me in there and I really think the blind was the last thing on his mind when he was trailing the doe.
  9. I may be mistaken but they can confiscate anything used in the commission of the crime. Poach a deer...put it on your 4 wheeler...loead both in your truck....hang it in your garage....all of it even the house can be fair game if they choose to.
  10. I am with DOC on this one. Zero tolerence. THe contact info is on my signs. If you have one go on there....you better be calling. It is just too freaking dangerous to have folks you don't know wandering around on there. If you call I would be more than happy to meet you at the property line and help you track it. If I find you in there the police are getting called. I work my butt off for the land I have (both on it and to pay for it). Let them do the same.
  11. Yes I do....I a. Frpm herkimer and go home a lot during northern gun....what do you need to know
  12. Zeke...where are you doing this? I am in the construction business and have worked on several highway construction projects. I am not a contractor but would be more than willing to give you some on site input if you want
  13. Eddie- I would put them in the non hunter group then. I have tons of non hunter friends
  14. Well Karp- by definition the Anti's are actively against regardless the topic. The values I spoke of are are tolerence and such. I don't like brussel sprouts...am I anti brussle sprouts. ...no...I am a non eater of brussel sprouts. If I were ANTI brussel sprouts I would not want any one to be able to eat them and would be lobbying to have the species of plant done away with so no on could ever develope a taste for them (is that even possible?...lol not sure) The Antis carry this feeling that they know best and if they don't want something NO ONE should be able to do it. That is a character flaw in my book and flows over into other aspects of their lives. I veiw them as intolerent, spoiled and catered to individuals. It was probably a function of their dad missing out on several opportunities to put his size 12 on their arse. So in closing before I get off my soap box. I have nothing in common with those folks. If by chance I did find a shred of common ground it would only be a matter of time before they chose something else dear to me to be Anti towards...flavor of the week type of people My 2 cents....that ans $2 will get me a cup of coffee...after all opinions are like...nevermind
  15. LOL @ Doc----and FYI ...I am not sure if the apple crap ever worked or not on deer....I will tell you the freaking bees loved the apple scent though!! And just for the record I will NEVER spay myself with fox urine!! I just stick to the whole scent free theory and staying clean is cheap
  16. I have freinds that are non hunters...they are freinds. I have people I know that are ANTI hunting. I have so little in common with them in terms of hunting right through to values and politics., they will never be my friends. I think it goes to the true definition of an anti hunter. they would IMPOSE their view on no hunting on others where a a non hunters chooses to not participate. It really boils down to values and I feel the Anti's have none. So readers digest version---I have no freinds that are anti- hunting.
  17. I would love to tell you guys I am waiting for one of those 2 big 10's I have been watching but if one of those 3 big 8's gets within range it's gonna be more than I can take. all 5 are bigger than anything I have taken with a bow to date. but anything other than those 5 (or their big brothers) and I am not moving. Which means I will see more bucks in side of 10 yards than ever before....lol...just small ones
  18. residential traffic up here in Ny I wouldn't go under 8" and while it cost a bit more used a crused stone product not round gravel. It locks in better and won't tend to roll under traffic. I don't care how much fabric and stone you use you will have problems if you are holding water in the bottom. don't dig the driveway down like a trench and fill in with stone. It will act like a pond. make sure the surface is sloped and the water can daylight out of the stone.
  19. that sounds great and will be on the menu at camp this season. Always looking for something easy the guys can grab as they come in and out
  20. Mine is very similiar to the others but I drain all the tomatoes and press the fluid out. I replace with one can of beer or more depending on the amount of water I can get out. I prefer to use Guiness. I also add sliced mushrooms an hour before I want to eat. I refer to eat it spooned over white rice and to switch it up sometimes I don'e use ground venison but finely chopped stew. I seem to end up with stew left in the freezer evey year when the ground, steaks and loins are gone.
  21. I have hunted lines and in all cases was bow as a favor to folks I know that were feeding their landscaping to the herd...lol . The 500' was fine but 3 made it off. I had already made contact with the closest neighbors but sometimes it amazes me how long they can stay on their feet. I couldn't take the stress thinking about a deer bleeding and keeling over next to a 3 year old in their sand box. The hunting there was a slam dunk too...just too much stress and that takes the fun out of it. Who wants to loose a deer that wanders in the wrong direction once hit.
  22. I am not so sure. I have use an apple scented cover and placed it out in wick canisters. the way that reads I was legal. Now if I had poured in on something I could be illegal. Even bear hunting you are allowed and ounce and a half....and a honey burn in that amount would be ok. It is imparting scents and not trying to feed
  23. relax....I am sure you have a couple good seasons in that location anyway
  24. I knew where you were going with that first comment Doc. It does look like an ash tree to me. The nice thing about his design....unbolt it and go. I am hearing too that they have already taken seed to storage in hopes that after this passed they may be able to re-establish them once the EAB move on for lack of trees. I have heard reports that in as little as ten years none may be left...who knows for sure
