My sister lives in Bedford, a little town in westchester. Her neighbor is a hedge fund owner and has camels, zebras, buffalo and ostrich. Who knows what else is lurking behind the stone walls?????
The Long Island heard is out-of-whack. Take Florida out of the equation, those things talked about in the article, that is Long Island. The heard is unbalanced and anything can happen.
All of the factors in this article talking about late breeding point to Long Island except for warm weather.

Grow,
I I were to cut some trees what will they eat off of them. I know they stand on their hind legs to get at the branches but what are they actually eating?
If I lived at my place full time I wouldn't feed them. I would try to help them out though by clearing some of the hard pack over my food plots or grassy areas. They must use a lot of energy to get down to the ground only to feed on a small area.
Sorry about the loss. My dog has been with me for 9 years now. He was there when I went through a pretty tough time also. It just makes it so much harder because they understand your pain. Hang in there, time heals all wounds.
Steve I agree that habitat is pitiful for the deer. I also follow FB page of LI deer hunting. A lot of these guys go out the first week and score on nice bucks. They then switch over to shooting does. A couple of guys took double digit amount of does. Sure there are guys out the passing the little ones up but from what I have seen a lot of does were taken by this group. I totally understand the logic you are putting forward but it isn't the case with this group, which is pretty big.
Do you realize that the breeding cycle on Long Island is all out of whack? During the January hunt, towards the end say Jan 20th or so a few fawns were brought into the check station. The biologist said they were born in November. It's no wonder why we find the really small ones dead this time of year.
Too many posts coming up of guys finding fawns dead in their beds. I much rather see them in your freezer than Mother Natures. Such a shame, the circle of life.
Hey neighbor I'm from you part of the Island. I'm from Northport. Enjoy the site and post some picts of the decoys and mounts we would love to see them.
