  1. Be up in two weeks to close her down, I have hot dogs in mind that weekend so any deer is fair game! Do the whole deer in hot dogs like last year, they were great!
  2. Sorry but the ones I see coming down the road have a low rumble to the truck, could be why their road hunting. Can't afford to fix the truck or feed the family!
  3. 8P- my neighbor been out all week and has not heard one shot and hasn't seen a deer. After the snow he called me and said he's never seen so many coyote tracks. Time to step it up on the coyote hunting this January.
  4. See them all the time, I make sure I have some orange out in my woods to let them know there might be someone out there. Even if it stops one jerk it's worth it. Your right about the description!
  5. We'll I was going to head up this weekend to get my venison and do a bit more hunting. I was on the fence about going or not. I'm battling a bad cold and would be driving six hours on 3 hrs of sleep. My brother can't come so it would be solo. I do have a 3 day weekend planned for the end of season for smoke pole so I'm going to pass this weekend. My daughter is also getting her first trophy for soccer Saturday morning, important I be there. Good luck to you guys this weekend the moon is in your favor!
  6. Eddie, How did the electric deer hoist work out?
  7. Still can't decide if I should go up. I have 150lbs of venison in my neighbors freezer that I have to pick up. Have a nasty cold and can only hunt 3/4 the day Sat and Sunday morning? ??? ? 6 hr drive?? What to do??? I have a three day weekend for smokepole planned. My neighbor took two doe this week but still hasn't seen a buck? The moon will be right this weekend.
  8. We don't put a thing into the meat, just love it the way it is!
  9. I am going to try to post an article from Field and Stream from a few years ago on the impact of coyotes on the deer herd. I thought it was real good, a quick one page read that got straight to the point.
  10. Couldn't get it started last weekend! They see me coming with the leaf blower, they'll drop like flies! Oh- they are flies???????lol
  11. Took a deer years ago that was shot by an arrow through the hoof. I shot it on opening day, buck was limping really bad. Upon inspecting the deer I saw puss coming from the wound and the eyes of the deer. I gutted the deer and brought him to the local processor. The meat was fine and I'm here to tell this story!
  12. Same here, its not a problem when I'm at camp its cleaning them up when I get there.
  13. Happened to me on Morton Hill road in Roscoe. My brother-in-law and I were headed to my first camp and the truck started sliding backwards on ice we ended up in the ditch. The local farmer came by and we asked for help, he said he was too busy (never liked him anyway.) 10 minutes later an old guy comes by smoking a corn pipe in his pickup. Pulled us right out before we could say thanks he was on his way, by that time the sander came along and all was well. Thought I heard bells and the old man laughing as he pulled away, true story!
  14. I will drive 12 hours this weekend to hunt 12 hrs but I also will be picking up 150 lbs of venison from opening weekend! That meat looks great!
  15. Thanks Eddie, Next year I'll take it to the next level and spay the outside of the house. These suckers do get through the smallest holes. I would of never done Board and Batten siding if I knew they get through such small holes.
  16. I would. I would like to see shows that I can relate to. And maybe a show here and there that has some real useful info. If these guys are such "experts", what is wrong with doing a bit of education along the way. Frankly, I could get into shows that focus on certain specific aspects of hunting. For example, how many of us know everything there is about blood trailing, or scouting and all the interpretation of various kinds of sign, and how about all the decisions that go into stand placement in different circumstances. Or how about a show on the selection and use of trail cams or other pieces of hunting equipment. I like the Deer & Deer-hunting style shows where they actually try to tell you something interesting and/or useful. Yeah, I would like to see some of that "actual work" in real average hunting areas and hunting situations. I do not really get off on the rather boring parade of ridiculous farm-raised deer. Frankly, I think some of those genetic freaks look rather stupid. There is an awful lot of info about hunting that doesn't even involve shooting a deer that could be tailored to conditions that real actual hunters encounter every year. What I have found with most of these whitetail hunting shows is that they are predictable, routine, and just plain boring. Everything is the same except for the particular hunter-hero playing his role. You could pick any show from the past 20 years and replay it and everyone would think they were brand new. There is nothing memorable or unique about any one of them. Doc You nailed it Doc, I often thought about a blood trailing episode and how it could help so many hunters. Like you said-boring!
