    Last 9 Days

Cant make it out in the A.M. but I am free and clear Tue, Wed, and Thur. I have hunted at least a dozen times this spring and I have had close action every time. Passed up Jakes and have seen several good Toms, that I just couldn't shoot, for one reason or another. I have NEVER had a season like this!! If I don't score I can't B!t@H!!..But I have some revised plans in mind……. LOL!!!
  2. I think that the "short mags" never really caught on that much because the difference between F.P.S, down range energy and felt recoil, wasn't that great compared to standard long action Mags.. I may be wrong ,Im not a big ballistic/magnum guy. Seems like the only short mags still holding on are the 300, and 7mm short mags. I never hear of the 223, 243, 25 or 325 short mags any more. ( I might be forgetting a few)
  3. I gave some soft yelps and clucks at around 630. A short time later a nice tom and a hen came scratching along, probably 70 yards or so. I don't think I called them, I think they just happened to be on a certain route. I believe they are the same pair I saw a few days ago, in the same area. They slowly made their way out into the fields, ignoring my calls, then slowly moved out of sight. it was cool to watch them for a while. No gobbling at all this morning. I did find this 140 class shed while I was poking around. I hope to find the other so I have a set of killer rattling horns this fall... LOL!!!
  4. Birds hit the fields earlier than I expected this morning and I got busted trying to set up. @#!$%#!%^&!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Its looking good. should fill in nice. Put your weed block down as late as you can stand it. Mid to late November. The weeds will store it in their system and never bloom in the spring. Most people think you put weed block down when you see weeds, in the spring/summer…..Wrong…. My lawn is the only one in the neighborhood with out a single dandelion or weed on it, every spring...
  6. Headed out at about 7 again. Got set up at the edge of the same field, but about 100 yards to the right, from where I had been setting up.\\ I give a couple yelps on the slate, and get a distant answer. I wait a couple and give 2 or 3 more soft yelps and he sounds like he's right on top of me. There is a small hump that butts out from the woods, to my right that I can't see around but I know he is just around that hump and coming from the right, I see movement and get the gun up…I see 1..2…5..6 birds. ALL GEESE!!! LOL!! I wait and sure enough a jake. Then two jakes then 3 and 4 along with 6 hens come around the "hump" and are right in front of me 20 yards. One tom has about a 6" thin beard and I want to take him, but they are so bunched up that there is no way I could shoot with out killing more than one turkey, not to mention the bunch of geese that are right behind them….WTF??? They slowly move off to my left, and the geese would occasionally get pissed and honk and flap at them, causing all of the toms to gobble all at once!! LOL! It happened 4 or 5 times.. I tried to cut them off at the other end of the fields, but the farmer started working the fields with the tractor and obviously scared them off to somewhere.. Good morning ….Back tomorrow
  7. So if you're camping, hunting or just in a bind and have to leave a loaf in the woods, is the toilet paper you leave behind ..litter??? LOL!!
  8. Most are online but some parts stores, like Pep boys sell them in store. They are cheap but not bad machines at all,,,especially for kids who will out grow them in a year or so. You can always sell a youth ATV and not get beat up…….
  9. Most of my rifle spots can be called "big woods" ……Too many good rifles and calibers to list, but my top two for the past 15 years or so, have been my old Remmy 700 in 30-06 and my Ruger M77 in 7mm-08. Both great deer droppers…...
  10. Yeah.. either that or he saw a hen or two, in the woods as he was crossing the field…..thats the only thing I could think of. He definitely didn't bust me. Maybe tomorrow
  11. Got out at around 7. Nice tom with one hen out in a plowed field. I snuck with in about 150 yards and set up on the edge of the field and watched for a little while. He was in full display and every time he got close to the feeding hen, she would flap and scamper away from him, a few yards. I figured I could call him away from the little tease, so when he had his a$$ to me I gave a few soft yelps. He liked it. He answered me and was heading straight at me. The field kind of rolls, so every time his head went out of sight, under a knoll, I would give a soft yelp or 2, which he would answer. Once he was at about 70 yards and heading for me, I got the gun up. Then he turns to my right and starts gobbling towards the woods. I couldn't move or call. The prick heads into the woods gobbling. No other hens were sounding off. Once he was out of sight I went back to the call. He answered a few times but never showed up.. I don't know what the hell happened...
  12. I know that the mylar balloons last for ever..But what about the rubber balloons with cotton string. The one guy, in the article was quoted as saying those balloons were biodegradable…I think they are.
  13. If any of you guys have got your May copy of "Meat and Poultry" Don't tell me what the cover story is about…..I want it to be a surprise, when I open the mail box..
  14. I found one of those mylar balloons, tangled in some thorny crap, opening week of turkey this year. It read "class of 2010". Faded but still legible .
  15. Small shops add "service fees" or "processing fees"..illegal or not thats what they do. The last time I did a transfer I called a local, well known shop and asked what the fee was. $70!!! When I asked why they charged so much, compared to GM, the guy got real pissy real fast..His final answer was something to the effect "its a lot of work and thats what we charge". It does seem to be a lot of work for 10 bucks. It takes a good 20-30 minutes, and if its a hand gun, the FFL has to store it until the buyer returns with a purchase coupon ..
  16. You are correct sir…..Long guns can be shipped UPS, USPS,,Fed Ex if they are going to an FFL or manufacturer. Handguns FFL to FFL. I should have been more clear.
  17. I haven't been out in a couple days. Been busy putting down new flooring and molding in one room. Then half way through, the wife decided the whole room needed to be a different color. Im just about done and plan on hitting it hard the next few days. I have had good action so far, just haven't dropped the hammer yet.
  18. Sorry for your loss. The buyer, if local, has to go through a background check and the firearm needs to be transferred through an FFL. The buyer and seller both have to go to an FFL and show valid ID. (Drivers license, pistol license, government issued ID) If the gun is being shipped to someone, it has to go from FFL to FFL and the buyer does his NICS check at the receiving FFL. The cheapest place to go is probably Gander Mtn. if there is one by you. I have done a few private transfers there. only $10 per gun. Other local shops want as much as $100 per gun. I don't know what Gander charges to ship guns out. Good luck.
  19. That Honda looks like its in real good shape, and Honda is a good machine. You don't need a real big machine for basic grunt work. I had a Kawi 360 4x4 that I sold to by my sons Polaris 570. I loved that 360. I used it more than my 700 efi. The only down fall of the 360 was ground clearance. Some spots ,on one property I hunt, has deep ruts that are always wet. The 360 could get through but I really had to pick and choose how I got through, were as, with my 700 or the 570, I can just ride straight through. I even prefer smaller ATV's in tight woods. Congrats….
  20. I was gone all day today, from 7 am till about 6pm. Walked into the house and noticed an awesome smell. The wife and my daughter surprised me with a roasted turkey, mashies, peas, stuffing, gravy biscuits …..They must want something…….
  21. Very cool…I had two chickadees get their heads stuck in one of those suet cages last summer. I got them out Ok, but both times my wife freaked out like she was looking at a baby stranded on the fire escape of a burning building!!!!
