  1. The old "hang over hunt" LOL!! I need an alkaseltser and a nap just thinking about it…….
  2. If the bird is gobbling and seems to be getting closer, my opinion is to shut up. An occasional cluck or two, but thats it. But the bird may have gotten hung up, at a creek, old fence, thick crap that he didn't want to cross…its hard to say. Thats why its good to know the area. If you think there was something between you and the tom, try to CAREFULLY make a semi circle, in one direction or the other, set up and call again. There are no definite answers …thats hunting.
  3. Took mine off last week too, but I left the bottom mounting plate on & my son got the tav stuck, because of the loss of ground clearance, cause by the plate. My son, the ATV and my son's buddy came back covered in smelly mud !! LOL! I took the plate off once I got the machine cleaned up. Fingers crossed
  4. Great morning!!!! congrats..
  5. SUCKS!!! I've met the VILLAGE IDIOT a time or two….LOL!! At least the kids got a little action..
  6. I haven't heard anything about that. Did he say where his info. came from?
  7. Have fun, good luck and stay safe...
  8. I've been blowing it off for a while now & the weather didn't help. Got out today and shot the new Beretta M9 and S&W 64 revolver (this one is old). Both shot great. The sun was deceiving. Freaking cold, especially with the wind. Every time I loaded a mag I would pop out, from under the covered pistol line, and hang out in the sun light. It helped. It was fun. I should have brought the turkey gun, to check the pattern, but I still have time.
  9. Still there ……………………..
  10. Damn good tom….congrats..!! Must be nice to have the pressure off before our season even starts!! LOL!!!!
  11. Don't know where the goofy face came from…..Springfield -s
  12. I killed a good tom last year that was drawn in by a $10 Gander Mtn. hen decoy. I think they will be fine. I'll take them off your hands if they don't work LOL!
  13. Luckily both my 700's miss the recall. Good thing. These mass recalls can take for ever. I have two friends who sent back Springfield -S's (for recall work) back in Aug. & Sept & they still haven't gotten them back.
  14. Yeah …thats what Im thinking. Its not a heavily traveled road, but traveled enough. Its private property. Only me and about three other guys have permission but Im the only one who turkey hunts. But private property and posted signs never stopped ignorant little "A"-holes. I have a good idea where they're roosting & so far my plan is to take the long way around. Just hope no one goes traipsing through there before May 1st.
  15. For the past few days I have been seeing a good flock of turkeys in a field of the farm I plan to hunt on opening day. There are a few Toms but one in particular stands out. He seems to be the king s@#t. Yesterday A.M. I drove by and he was in full strut only about 40 yards, tops, off the road. I was thinking " what a nice shot" The rest of the flock was further back in the field, leading me to believe that there was a hen, close to him but just out of sight. This morning I did my usual running around and there he was again, full strut, all alone (from what I could tell). He was right off the road. I hit the gas station and drove back by the field again, maybe 15 mins later. There he was, like he was waiting for me. He was right at the road. I stopped and he slowly walked in front of my truck, across the road like he owned it. He went into the other field, and just roamed around. Big Tom with a good 8-9" beard. What are the odds this bird hangs out until May 1???
  16. Hell of a buck…I hope old age got him and not a car or a bad shot.
  17. Its been a few years since I've done it, but I don't think I paid over 100.
  18. Euclid is pretty good food (my sister waitresses there). The place on the inlet is probably The water Front, right over the bridge. Decent food, but more of a party place in the summer months with all the boaters pulling right up to the dock. It can get real interesting !!! The Dino BBQ is beyond awesome food (BBQ anyway) only problem is the constant crowd and the occasional " hey yesterday I bought my first Harley, got a tattoo, and this tight black T-shirt. Now Im a tough guy" crowd. LOL!! The stories are endless.
  19. Locally I have to go with Dee-Gee's in Brewerton
  20. Thanks. I'll try it next time Im in town. Hopefully in May.
  21. Its good hunting ..Good luck.
  22. What I like about the Mossgerg 935 and 835 (and a lot of other 3 1/2" guns) is that you can run 2 3/4 or 3" shells through it too. My 835 patterns great with all 3 but the 3 1/2" with 2 1/4 oz loads of #5 out perform the rest past 35 yards. Its all about you and what you feel comfortable with. Hell… I killed a good number of toms with my old 870 and 2 3/4" Turkey loads using just the factory full choke. The first turkey I killed was with the 870 and a high brass #6 pheasant load. Maybe 25 yards. POOOFF
