  1. Dinner island is another great place , though it's gone downhill a little in the last couple years , used to be tons a hogs in their until they started trapping them for whatever reason.. Still some good turkey and big bucks in there .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Never hunted arbuckle but always heard good things ... Where all did you apply for? Normally I go for dupuis, spirit of the wild, and okeechobee slough.... You got lucky you got pulled ....! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. And to answer your question about guys waiting for walk ins, public land I'd somewhat sparse in the southern region, more public land mostly in central and northern zones... Quotas are very hard to come by cause everyone applies as soon as it opens often jamming up the system .... Otherwise your stuck with regular non quota public land which obviously receives air more traffic , and also swamp buggies tearin around all over the place cause named or numbered trails are open to traffic but the buggies don't care , they go anywhere.... That explains why you never really bumped into another hunter, quota hunts are very highly sought after down there because of the low pressure and higher odds .... I've only snagged a few in the 16 years I hunted down there growing up n got stuck with plane jane public land ... But the WMA's are massive and most are really lazy .... I've used my waders more times than I can count to access some rough areas to get away from the village idiots n tagged out most years .... If I had it my way, I would hunt deer up here in the fall , head down to FL around late December , hunt osceolas in March/ April n then shoot back up here for May turkey n the rest of the summer.... 4. Ahhh my ol stompin grounds... Miss Huntin those swamp gobblers .... N yes you got lucky with the skeeters , normally if you don't have a therma cell or forgot extra butane or pads you were one dum SOB if you still hunted ! Curious , what WMA were you at? And they love that burnt stuff from the controlled burns to get rid of the palmetto thickets in the underbrush , pushes all the little grubs n big out of the ground and shot quite a few birds just a day or two post burn when some if the ground and base of the pines are still smoldering .... Congrats on your success .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Very nice lookin place! Love the wood n those doors are AWSOME!!! The one thing I would change is those old lady drapes... Sorry for that but for a hunting cabin I personally would put some woodsy green and / or maroon on those windows n give it a rustic but classy woodsy feel... Looks like May will be successful for you ... Nice flock .... Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Love listening to hens chatter .... After all it's what we all practice n nothing better than hearing the live DVD version ... I can still recall the entire hunt 6 years ago down in Florida when I had a hen start tree talkin in the next cypress head over from me , sat there n listened to her as she progressed to a classic fly down cackle with two of her buddies dam near in my lap.... They purred n clucked off around the bend when started up with some soft calling ... Had two gobblers answer and she began 2. N 3 note yelpin n cuttin ... I talked back n forth with her for probly 10 minutes as she got more persistent .... Drew that ol swamp beard in like a charm... Hunt over in 30 minutes as the sun was just rising , magical morning ! I love having them come through clickin n purrin sometimes ten feet away like your a fly on the wall watchin mother natures big show .... God I love beein in the woods ! 7. No doubt , but for me the margin for error is too much in those middle ranges such as the diff between 30 and 35 .... For me if I think he's 35 , easy slight adjustment on my red 30 yd pin rather than adjusting from dead on 20 to how high for 35 .... Not that it can't be done but too much for me personally when that buck of a life time should it ever come is standing in front a me n my blood pressure bottoms out haha... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I've gone to a three pin ... Green / red / green ... Shoot a Hoyt at 310 ... First pin 20 n under , red 2nd pin 30, and then green again at 40 ... All I gotta say to myself before I draw is top pin , red , or last pin ... Anymore pins/color variation than that n your askin for trouble ... I'm not a fan of the single pin cause the visual adjustment / compensation to me increases margin for error should you guess the wrong range and hold a little low or high to compensate .... And don't get me started on adjustable 1 pins ... No way that increases your odds on a deer that starts at 30 and doesn't stop till he's ten yards in your lap or visa versa.... In my opinion three is the way to go that covers all aspects of "bow range" with easy visual adjustment without over crowding and quick acquisition of the target... With that being said to each his own , what you practice is what you reap, everyone's got there own comfort zone .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Almost...... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I'm close to you, live in tonawanda n hunt anywhere from Iroquois to tonawanda to Carlton hill state forest from squirrels to turkey to deer ... Never hunted the island... Coyote season is just ending , turkey is next ... Would be happy to introduce you to other things n tag along during turkey .... N if you like it maybe deer ... Got my start livin in FL when I was 12, n always support new hunters that think they might enjoy the woods like we do.... No guarantee but u'll be hooked no doubt when a gobbler hammers off in front of you! Pm me if you think you like to tag along ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I got lucky and picked up a used " practically new" mossberg 500 20ga fully rifle slug gun with the cantilever mount and a fixed power scope at cabelas for 300 bucks... As stated above very accurate up to 100 haven't tested it past that yet but it does like the hornady sst's also ... Great gun! Very light too, can't wait to give we a whirl next season... Prior to that a traveled to a rifle county or just used my stoeger smooth bore ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. hmm thats strange, especially since they've ruled out the thyroid... well keep at it and get those hamstrings nice n strong for that ACL!
  13. Swelling will increase if your leg is in a dependent position (standing/ sitting with feet on floor) for a period of time due to gravity and yes the exercise will help with that because of the "muscle pump" mainly in your calfs that push on veins/ lymphatic vessels to push blood/ fluid along and out of the leg ... U can elevate the leg as well and due ankle pumps , I'm sure PT gave u those early on ... But the heart rate deal, you proved your own point there, at first you couldn't get it to come down quickly enough, and now doesn't go as high with the same amount of work your doing... This is a GOOD thing! Your cardiovascular system is becoming more efficient . Target heart rates aren't everything, increasing duration and/or most likely intensity by turning up the resistance on the elliptical or increasing speed and elevation on the treadmill are ways you can do that ... And I'm assuming your watching what you eat in combination with working out? Sometimes initial weight loss can be masked by gains in lean muscle mass and you have been doing a fair amount of exercise since the surgery ... Sucks but I'm reaching the point where I can't out exercise my eating habits too , we all do. Has to be both if you want to lose any significant amount of weight... Oh ya, and if your icing the knee , DO NOT leave it on for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, anything beyond that and it will actually increase swelling ! The body as a protective mechanism actually senses the area to be getting too cold so it will signal more blood flow to warm the area and with that comes more fluid .... Ok I'm off my soap box now lol... Sounds like you've come a long way from hobbling back to Mr. B at the house .... Turkey season will at least be more enjoyable for ya ! 14. Not trying to start a fight here, but sorry to burst your bubble ! Taking exogenous collagen does not rebuild tissue, and the healing process for ligamentous type tissue involves scar tissue , just a matter of how you manage that development through gradual stress to the tissue as to not become to stiff n rigid or brittle ... The research has shown no conclusive evidence for collagen based supplements , and I'm sorry but the proof is in the pudding, and momma didn't make no pudding lol... If this were the case I along with other therapists would be out a business .... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. This coming season I'm going to spend a little n get the raptor razor big game skinner... Can quarter a deer in under 15 with it and a basic straight edge n then pack em out... Tired of walking 2 miles back to get the dam cart... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I've posted the solution to this earlier on in the thread... Used to do it all the time hunting in FL swamps .... Dress the deer , seat goes in cavity , shoulders over the handle bars with the head resting in a basket , Little book rack looking thing on the back for the hind end to rest on , strap er down n walk em out .... Transportation and game cart in one , of course FL land was relatively flat and had levy systems/roads running throughout the land to drag the deer to then much easier to wheel em out .... I've been contemplating resurrecting this technique for Darien Lake! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Worked at Outback Steakhouse as a server for ten years throughout high school and college n now I am a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. They just opened season on them recently too! Have a few spots in big cypress I would stick one if I was still down there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Hell no ! Not even sure you could, haha... Few a my buddy's have em with some big stinkin tractor tires on them... Erie feeling going into a water whole and 6 ft tall tires disappear! The snakes aren't too too bad , I grew up Huntin those swamps n pine thickets ... Sure I've seen a few here n there but just gotta be smart about were ur walkin... Almost dam near stepped on a rattle snake turkey Huntin goin to set out the decoy mid day, dam good thing I looked down ahead a me in the pepper grass , never even rattled... Picked my s?$& up n headed to the house lol! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Called a swamp buggy Doc ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. U go to Lake okeechobee ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. That's a real nice 5 point side!
  23. Man, just bought a new mossberg 500 20 ga with the cantelever scope mount slug barrel for 8g.... Probly still use it even if rifle passes... It's a sweet rig !
  24. Spring is prime time for decoying and will be most receptive to calls... Not wasting ur time at all! My advice since you don't have much time to scout is get in the woods about the general area u wanna hunt just before first light and wait for a gobble on the roost as it gets light, then close the distance as best you can without bumping him , probly about 100 yds n set up decoy n kill em..
  25. Get the raptor razor big game skinner... Last skinner u'll ever buy! Bought it n used it this year using the gutless method , cut time in half , eliminates trek back to truck to get the game cart, n don't have to worry about disposing of the carcass .... Everything stays in the woods except your meet....! Raptor razor big game skinner and a regular straight blade for taking off backsrtaps n tenderloin n ur good to go...
