All different levels of bowhunters out there. The only one I worry about is me. I do my best, and can't ask for anything more than that.

Foxworthy needed some new material!

Good luck with the results Aaron, but don't be surprised if the Dr. slathers your hairy gut up with Vaseline and tells you you're having a bouncing baby beer belly. I know you're excited, but it's probably best to let momma have the ultra sound done, lol. Got any names picked out yet?

That's a topic for another day... "cock veins" vs. "cock vanes" Which do YOU prefer on your shaft?

Your gonna burn that stand out before hunting season even gets here!

I'm NOT disagreeing with anything that's been said above, so I'm trying to be careful how I say this..., but don't be afraid if you have to leave a deer for a few hours overnight with temps in the ~60's or so. I've had to do that, and the meat was still fine. Cooling the carcass "ASAP" sometimes means as soon as you recover it, which could be several hours later. Rushing into the tracking job due to less than ideal temps could lead to an animal going unrecovered completely if the shot is anything less than perfect. Priority #1 needs to be recovery of your deer before you thnk of anything else. I wouldn't hesitate to process a deer recovered up to maybe 24hrs in the above scenario conditions. That may gross some guys out, but I've been there, done that, tasted good, and I'm still alive.

My only pair of camo cover alls are ripped from the crotch to the knees. They still smell like last years deer, so I'll try to squeak another season out of them. I haven't made much of a fashion statement in the woods in a long time, lol

Can't you just turn your nock until your cock vane is where you want it or are yours glued?

My bad. I just checked the second link and found it. Very happy looking ducks! Inspired by one of your photographs perhaps?- 86 replies

Good to see your skills put to use to help those that are less fortunate. The new rig is eating well too! Sure it's just a matter of time before your target buck shows up.

First Day / Few Days for the Bow Season - What are you going to do?
wooly replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
Freezer still has plenty enough venison for me in it to get me into summer again, so I wont be letting the air out of any early does this year. I'll be a little more selective with any potential buck harvest during October as well. The best part of the season here will begin in early November and I'd hate to be sitting at home watching football while that show is going on. I'm really hoping to arrow a nice buck with the x-bow, so that will make passing the early season guys a little easier. Didn't apply for any doe tags again this year so hoping for another two buck season when all is said and done in December. That's plenty of time to NOT have to rush things, and I get my monies worth out of my tags for the entire deer season. -
I'm not sure this is such a good idea. Violent crime may become more likely in households with empty sheet pizza boxes at the curb with groups of 24" or more across the box. On the other hand, a small personal pan pizza box with the center punched out could be a good deterrent to any "would be perpetrators"!

Cool looking buck. I'd tip him over! Good luck.

Looks like a leaf off a corn stalk.

I used to keep track of this when I was younger, but at some point I felt like if I knew the actual # it would sound like I was bragging when I talked about it so I stopped. I know for a fact it's well over 50, but it may be closer to 75 or 100 by now. I just don't know or care anymore.

It would be nice to make the ice at HSBC Arena from this flammable water. Maybe that would light a fire under the Sabres azzes this year, lol!

Seems like everyone I know has blown their shoulder out this summer, lol I was doing some shooting in the yard with my compound earlier this week when my neighbor came sneaking through the woods between us. Almost in a soft whisper as he stayed hidden in the brush, I heard him say "Hey, Matty... I gotta show you something I think you might like". He whipped out his new Barnett from his side and proceeded to make a small circle with his elbow with a grimace on his face and said.. "I'd love to hunt with a regular bow, but my shoulder is shot". A few days later I heard him whacking away at the wood pile with a 10lb maul as usual, lol On a side note, he also mentioned the 60yd shots he'd be able to pull off on deer with his new rig. I can only hope he noticed me cringe and the pain was a little more convincing than the act he came over trying to sell me.

Adirondack Bowhunters 2014 Season Intro : Video
wooly replied to AdirondackBH's topic in General Hunting
Really nice footage, some sweet bucks, and a very nicely put together! .... but those little rattlin' antlers gots to go,lol! -
Real easy answer to this one for me. I wont sit all day until I see bucks running does. That doesn't mean one buck casually following a doe or group of doe. It doesn't mean a buck stuck his nose up a doe's rear end and she hopped in a thicket, and he jumped in after her. It means when I see multiple bucks chasing the same or separate doe 90mph through the timber grunting his nuts off. It eventually happens every year, and is hard to miss. Usually once I see this, there is a 3 day window before bucks get locked down and the woods get real quiet again here. These are the days you can fall 20 feet out of your tree.., you just brush yourself off, and tuck your bones back in, and climb back up,lol

Glad I stopped writing my novel when I did. Well said Predate!

When do you stop entering the woods before the season opener?
wooly replied to SteveNY's topic in Deer Hunting
I try to take a stroll around my hunting grounds past my stands every day. VERY rarely do I ever miss a hike completely. I'll likely keep my patterns the same right up to, and throughout season unless I notice a major change I may have a negative effect on. As long as my patterns stay the same, I don't believe the deer will change theirs much once we flip the calendars to October.
