How come the skid marks are in front of you? Who's pulling who,lol

I hate to be a royal pisser, but that doesn't look like good blood to me. Those chunks likely are not pieces of lung, but rather blood clots forming already from a non lethat hit. They can start to clot up within the first 100yds believe it or not. I hope I'm wrong and you find her, but I believe your blood trail will dry up shortly after she left the swamp.

I dunno....., pappy always used to say that when he came home from hunting camp so I just assumed that's what he was talking about, lol He's kinda weird like that with the stories though. The only guy I know that wears red face paint!
-
Not a fan of the "brown it's down" saying myself either. I prefer the old saying....., "they're all pink on the inside"! Pretty sure that phrase was coined by an old upstate deer hunter who spent too much time alone in the woods and didn't get lucky often, lol

Oh yeah, he'll look good on nyantler-outdoors! Maybe run a feature story on him and some pics on the front page! Congrats on a sweet buck with primitive gear Joe!

I used to be the same way and I still am to some extent. It's not the heights that gets to me any longer as I could scurry to the tree tops 60ft above if I had the right branch configuration. Sub-consciously in the back of my mind I'm always aware I'm standing on a 18"x24" platform when in a stand. As long as I don't need to stand and turn for a shot I'm ok, but as soon as I try to reposition my feet after I stand, it feels like I'm standing on a basketball if I'm not holding onto something, lol. For that reason anything on the right hand side of my perch usually gets a pass. Yup, I wouldn't even be able to pull that shot off on a 200" buck at 10 yds to my right. It would only magnify the wobbly symptoms.

I think the dirty diapers is just a tactic/fetish that brings back memories of what it was like last time he took a trip down the birth canal, lol

Hire a hitman and have the poacher assassinated.

Looks like that one needs to drop another 3 or 4ft before I'd pull the chord on my chute! My wind tolerance is increasing the more time I spend in treetops. I'm not sure if I'm getting braver or dumber.., or a little of both. Usually about the time I start to question myself about what the hell I'm still doing up there is when I make a quick decision to come back to earth. I built an old permanent stand years ago in one of the biggest trees on the property. One day I showed up after not being there for a while, and my castle had crumbled at some point. That was an eye opener for sure, but I think those massive suckers topple before a nice flexible tree with a fraction of the surface area to be caught by the wind.

Thanks man! I'd sell them but I haven't had many offers....... ok, I haven't had ANY offers, lol That's ok with me though. I enjoy nature photography more than hunting, but this is a great time of year where I can incorporate my two favorite hobbies together. The critters I don't kill teach me more by walking away than any I've popped! I'd be afraid if I ever got paid to do this stuff it would start to feel more like work, and that might take the fun out of it for me.

Thanks guys! The new camera is a Nikon D-3200 with a Nikkor 55-300 VR 4.5-5.6 It's nothing earth shattering, but it's a step up from my old D-3000 with some nice new to me features, and a megapixel bump double plus what my old rig had from 10 to 24MP. It's been a while since I've had a VR (Vibration Reduction) lens as well. That really helped with those low light buck shots at the crack of dawn with a slow shutter speed. Very happy with it so far, but I've only had it a day,lol BTW- anyone notice that row of spots down the back of the second buck? I've never seen that before.
-
My new camera and lens finally arrived so I took them to the stand this morning. I took it with me this evening too, but forgot to put a memory card in it. Man, did I ever miss out. The last two shots are just fillers from my old camera. More to come soon!

Good thinking, LMAO! I like to use my "butt-out" tool to pull the cork on my deer..., then I'll tuck my tag where the sun don't shine and put the plug back in to keep it safe!
-
Have a good one and enjoy the new x-bow! Ooops, I slipped.... make sure you act surprised!
-
Good luck!

I used to keep all my old filled "paper tags" in a photo album on the same page as pictures of the deer that wore them. Now that I don't develop many pictures any longer due to digital image storage, and the crappy new "rubber tags", those new ones aren't as collectable to me any more, so I find them laying in paper piles everywhere around the house.

Well, that was the Iowa story. Here's the Wisconsin version. My suspicions are on the rise now,lol http://www.wideopenspaces.com/wisconsin-buck-rescued-sinkhole-video/
-
Gotcha- this was my first exposure to the incident. I only based my initial opinion on what I saw in the 90 second clip. Good save if that's truly what happened!
-
That didn't exactly look like your typical sinkhole type of terrain to me. Wouldn't be surprised to find out that buck was intentionally trapped in a pit just for the sake of a video "rescue". As always, I could be wrong but I am suspicious.
-
What A bum...... I can't believe he pushed you to the back of the photo! Typical sports star celebrity hogging the spotlight right up in the lens, lol!
-
I usually tuck them in the carcass and if they survive the drag back, I'll package them up. They're good, but they're not my favorite part of the deer to chew on. If they fall out along the way I don't go back for them, or if they collect to much leaves or dirt to pick off, I just chuck 'em.
-
Would you be willing to break up a set? I could probably fit 4 or 5 of me in one of those jackets. I could use it as a pop-up blind, lol Sorry, I better not, but good luck selling!

I can think of a lot worse things to rupture! You'll be ready to rock~n~roll with the new x-bow! Heal up quick.
