  1. Only real goal for me this year is a quick clean kill with 100% recovery rate. Don't really have my heart set on any one animal in particular, but I'll know him when/if I see him.
  2. Those would be some really cool sheds to find this winter!
  3. Last time I took a lady friend hunting with me she got electracuted crawling through the cattle fencing..,lmao! Thought I was gonna have to kick her in the rear to get her to let go!
  4. Got the broken g3 buck again last night with a bonus spidey web.
  5. I sat one of my stick blinds last night and spotted two fawns under an apple tree off the powerlines. They came out from the cover when I saw what I thought was mama coming next. That's when this velvety spiker stepped out. Getting kinda late for that stuff even if it is just a spiker..
  6. First set in this spot showed a nice 10 this morning. Then another basket 10 that broke his g3 already..
  7. I say tear down those fences and release these genetic freaks into the wild breeding population!!!!
  8. I got plenty more pics if you need them, but you wont find me putting any corn down for her... She did seem attracted to the sound of a turkey hitting the ground though, lol http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/16375-she-followed-me-home/
  9. Those are some funny looking "golden apple" kernals, lol I get the feeling this isn't your first encounter with her?
  10. A quick trip to the processor on opening day and it's easy to see the does and fawns in this area get hammered every year. I haven't killed a doe in about 5 years now and really don't have the desire nor feel the need to anymore. I prefer to have them around durring the rut and late season, and the locals seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping their population in check here. I don't know there is a really accurate way to guesstimate your doe population without any odd characteristics to differentiate between them. Short of putting up a feeder to take a head count, you'll probably just have to go by individual encounters and pics from different locations on the property. A cam in plot watcher mode hung over every plot or field will give you a bit of an idea if your getting pics around the same time from different locations. Obviously they can't be at two places at one time, so you running 5 cams on a 72 acre area could give you a ballpark idea.
  11. Could be a doe. I'd pass it.... it's ugly,lol
  12. I do the freeze-grind-freeze method all the time, and rarely ever puke anything back up. You'll be fine.
  13. Better call her and give her the news... she'll probably have 10 of Hunting NY's finest hanging off her swingset Oct 1'st,lol
  14. Closest one I had was a young rut struck 3 pt that tried to charge right through me at least 3 times. I'm sure he was only a foot or two away, but if I hadn't hit the deck, he probably would have ended up inside me,lol. *** I blame the encounter on a bottle of deer piss I spilled on my hunting clothes the day before.
  15. Makes me tired just thinking about all that work involved tying that baby to an overhanging branch and letting it soak for weeks at a time, lol Pheeeew..., when would I find time to actually hunt. I think drippers are less intrusive, and contamination left behind from freshening them yourself will be highest on days you'll be hunting by manually peeing in them. I do both, but the dripper scrapes get the most constant action.
  16. About 8 years ago durring slug season, I spotted two deer coming my way one ridge over from the stump I was sitting on. The lead doe stopped in a clear lane and she looked like a fatty so I sent an ounce of lead her way. I watched her run off and I was sure she dropped just out of sight so I immediately followed up on her. I finally got to a point I could see her white belly laying there, so my pace quickened. In my mad dash to get to her, I didn't notice the big ol' buck standing next to her dead carcass untill he took a few hops out of sight. I assumed he made his way off so I began to field dress my doe. A few minutes later, something caught my attention, and I looked up to see the buck standing there watching me gut his girlfriend. I slowly eased over to my shotgun laying a few feet away and let a shot fly from an awkward position. The buck bounded off once again, but I couldn't tell if he was hit or not. I left the doe lay while I went to look for blood from the buck. When I got to where he was standing I searched for any signs of a hit but found nothing. A little disgusted, but I'd just get back to my doe and finish up my work with her. When I picked my head up from the ground in front of me to turn around, I heard the buck blow at me and saw he'd been standing behind a tree trunk watching me the whole time. Certainly by now he'd seen enough and was probably already in the next county, so I got back to my doe, and finished cleaning her up, and began the drag home. Not long into my drag, I stopped to take a smoke break. When I kneeled down and unslung the gun from my shoulder and rested it against a nearby tree. As I sat there smoking, something once again caught my eye coming down the same bloody trail I'd dragged the doe..... yup, you guessed it.... the buck was still following all this time and I could never be ready for him even having so many oppertunities. That memory always comes to mind any time I shoot a doe durring the rut now days.
  17. Looks like it's gonna be a good year at the Yellowdog Ranch!

    big buck?

I think that Hanson Buck was a pretty big one! I'd be happy to kill one 1/8" bigger though.
  19. Maybe it's a coygar..., a coyote that mated with a cougar!
  20. 2010 or 2011.... I don't remember.
  21. Couple from tonight (9/2)..... the only hard horn buck is the nice 9'er I've had my eye on all summer. His 3 buddies are all still fuzzies. They could be clean by the morning for all I know.
  22. Had this little hard horned buck show up this morning. I've only found one small rub so far.
  23. I was going to guess baneberry but the leaves don't seem to match yours.
  24. I was out bottle hunting the other day when I came across a few more old bones to throw on the pile. One more old skull and a broke off tine for the day.... I got a few new bottles to for my other collection too. Can't wait to start picking up 2013 antlers in a few more months!!!!
