  1. Start to finish with my 50 cal Traditions Pursuit muzzleloader. 250gn Hornady SST's in front of 100gn Pyrodex pellets could perform better on impact, but haven't failed me yet. Kit scope. 100% shot/kill/recovery rate with this combination. Multiple deer each season over the last 10 years or so.
  2. C'mon man, nobody that I know that drives a car (and I know more than a few) would consider it a preferred method to be killed by a deer either. The reality is that deer kill far more PEOPLE than wolves and coyotes combined.... yet hunters can't seem to get enough of them and protect them high above all else. As long as we're grabbing random dramatic pics off the web I'll hang this one as a reminder of why we need the help of predators. Let one of these torpedos land in mommas lap on her way to get groceries for you and the kids and then we can talk about how sad it is a hunting dog was eaten by persuing a critter with far superior training and natural killer instinct! I don't know where you guys keep coming up with this story that anyone here is against predator control through hunting and trapping. The only ones who keep bringing that up are yourselves. I suppose you all just keep repeating the lie to one another that eventually other folks will believe it's the truth.
  3. I'm calling him Lucky! He's lucky I ain't after him this year! Always like getting bucks with cool identifying features though.
  4. Got the velvet off..., now he just needs to loose his spots! I got several bucks this pull out of velvet, but this guy was the most interesting to me.
  5. I don't know that it's complicated, so much as it's too complex for some to see. Trying to convince most average deer hunters that toothy predators can be beneficial to the environment as a whole, is something few will take the time to wrap their head around. As the analogy in your story points out, killing the wolves is just the band aid solution most can't see any further than. This vid may have been posted on this site before, but it gives a good explanation of the predators role in maintaining a healthy environment, and the benefits to many other species that once inhabited the same lands.
  6. My favorite trees to hook my climber up to. Generally pretty straight trunked a good ways up, and a nice soft bark for quiet climbing and good bite for the stand teeth and cable. Getting a little harder every year to find a good healthy one to climb. The bark will slide right off on some of the trees that have been infected even if the rest of the tree still looks alive, so you still gotta be careful.
  7. Good luck Larry! Don't let them talk you into taking the scenic route!
  8. Just checkin'! Without clarifying the difference in locations, I'm sure you can see where my confusion comes from.
  9. In one breath you tell us you have the coyotes on your property under control due to your extensive eradication efforts. In the next breath you tell us how many are left on your property and keep you busy 365. Which is it?
  10. Nah man, it's glass so I trace it. Just tape your picture to the other side of the glass and there's ABSOLUTELY no way you can screw it up. You can see every detail right down to the whisker! They come out PURRRRRR-fect every time, lol
  11. Try to see past the cat whiskers on the last one! I knew I shouldn't have done that, lol I'm kinda gettin' the hang of this etched glass stuff now, but would still like to get better.
  12. Cool man! Can't wait to see how you mount it up!
  13. If we see him while we're together she will definitely be on the trigger! If I see him before that, all bets are off!
  14. Squirrel probably chewed it off,lol I did catch him again the other night!
  15. Coyotes will eat old people and babies when they can't get enough fawns in their diet.
  16. That little one looks plenty big enough to me to make it on its own even if it is an orphan. A lot of the doe around here stash their fawns extremely close to backyards and houses every year. It doesn't seem normal to us looking at all the available "big woods" left for them to hide them in, but I'm convinced they do this due to the lesser level of predators that hang around these areas. That one looks like it's up and moving around on it's own now, and probably just prefers the security and peacefulness it's learned to appreciate over a life in the timber amongst the real predators.
  17. Now that everyone has survived the blinding eclipse we can get back to being scared of statues!
  18. I think it's also documented that NY state also has more mountain lion sightings than any other state that actually has an established population of mountain lions. How exciting is that!
  19. Definitely the time of year for summer coats to change. I kept getting night shots of this doe that I almost thought was a piebald until she finally made a daylight visit.
  20. What a beauty! There's nothing sexier than the smell of fresh gun oil between the sheets! Good luck with your new bunny thumper this fall!
  21. I took a $99 bus trip to the big city about 10 years ago. The secret is to maintain your buzz the entire time your there to help you forget all the low points that didn't involve alcohol, lol
  22. Thanks man! You know, I have 60 bear claw necklaces I wanted to make my own antler beads for. A bunch of spike horns would go a long way to give me a more consistent size for that project if you were willing to part with them. I'd definitely be interested if you wanted to work out some sort of deal! My days of hoarding antlers are over, so you wouldn't have to worry about them laying dormant in a tote somewhere the way they used to. I like to get them in the hands of others who can appreciate them as much as the guy who pulled the trigger in the first place!
