VIDEO: Deer Heart Blown Up And Blood Is Everywhere!
Ford replied to TheFieldArcher's topic in Deer Hunting
I am disgusted by the music...Not that it is bad, but does not fit a deer hunting video thats for sure. There are so many of those videos out there with blasting hard core music...Never got that..They are not ZOMBIES, only does... -
Darn. I was going to say that.

Question: I hold a New York State Pistol Permit, can I carry my handgun while bow hunting or muzzleloader hunting? Answer: No, even though you possess a valid pistol permit to carry the handgun, the Environmental Conservation Law (ECL) prohibits it. http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/2442.html
-
Nope. Can't carry it.

Good luck everyone. I think this will be my fourth year hunting the Dacks with the smoke pole. Maybe a deer this season? Either way, good to get out there...
-
Thanks guys. We will see, not a lot of Bucks in my immediate area, but where there are does...It is only a half acre, but my hope is that they eat the turnips when the leaves are all eaten. And maybe take the pressure off of some of the natural browse, such as my apple trees...Also plan on cutting/ bending a few trees late season when the snow is deep.

A good rule of thumb for the AVERAGE person is one hour for every drink. (to drive). Alcohol and firearms do not mix, never thought of bow. Although I would not have a problem hunting with someone who had two glasses of wine with a big lunch, if that is what they normally do. Me, I like to have a coulpe after the hunt. I would be sleeping in the stand if I had one at lunch...

I guess you are talking about NY? If that is the case we are talking Black Bears. They usually run away. I dont think you even have to worry about it. If you did shoot one in self defense, I would imagine that it would be looked at rather closely, and they would make a determination on wether you should be prosecuted or not.

It is a lot of fun. What rifle do you have?

I am glad I planted a plot this year, now I am guaranteed a nice buck this season. I will just stroll up to the plot at 11 am, and blamo! Case closed. On a serious note, I would think that food plots do something for the native plants I have not seen posted. It takes the pressure off all the trees and foliage that gets beaten up pretty bad by browsing. Leaving even more food in those snowy times...

Here is one with the new camera.

The Brassica plot (Shot plot) is starting to get hit. The funny thing is that there are so many apples everywhere, on my property, and on surrounding properties, I am suprised that they are hitting my plot so hard...All times of day. I mean there are apples that are clogging my run-off ditches, thats how many. Maybe the Brassica is especialy palatable to them right now? Anyway, here is a photo..

Plot was mowed down the last two weeks....
Ford replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Whoa boy, they hammered that for sure...At least you have deer. ha. They are hitting mine pretty good. I have a lot less deer in my local vicinity apparently...I know them all by name, lol. Ah, I will post my plot feedings on another thread.. -
Horror stories....Thats what I am thinking of...One that made a guy give up hunting..I aint gonna write what happened...But..If you can do it EVERY time...Well, thats fine. Not for me.
-
Yeah my rods are marked. Very important. You can get side tracked in between shots with a muzzleloader. Its always best to double check everything you do.
-
Thanks for the reply, I forgot about this thread...I will try those bullets, I like shooting the muzzleloader. The 350 shoots as good as it can probably get out of my rifle though. I did not bag anything last year, so I do not know for a fact how they put deer down. I would imagine pretty good.

Fair enough. I understand where you are comming from. I am hoping to get a grouse next weekend...Like if I get one I will be happy. Ha. They have been busting every time I have walked up on them this year. In fact in the last few months, they have been all flying, and a good amount too. But when I go grouse hunting, I see deer, and when I go deer hunting I see grouse. So I should bring a camera too I guess.
-
Grouse are strange birds. Most of the time they are busting the heck outta there. Once in a while you find one that just sits. (Not in the spring of course, talking hunting season). About shooting only flushing birds. I know how you feel, how do you feel about others shooting them perched in a tree? Or on the ground? I am really just curious on this, as my opinions have changed over time..

That was a great post, thanks for sharing. I would agree, the sights, and sounds of hunting...The smells...The solitude if you are alone, or the camaraderie with family or friends at the deer camp. That is why I do it as well. I like venison, but to be honest, I have a huge supply from my buddies that hunt..And I like shootin critters. As long as they are edible or varmints...But that really has little to do with why I hunt. It is all about being out there really.

I was just thinking about this on another thread about shooting pheasants on the ground. Some would consider it not sportsman like. Others say if your gonna eat it, why let it fly away..I actualy can somewhat agree with both points, although I lean to shooting them on the ground, as it gets rid of the runners, and you are out there to bag game. But....That is a personal decision. Some as nyantler has said(or implied or whatever), that shooting deer around food plots is unsportsman like. And that is true. In his eyes. I can not take away from that, no matter what I say. That is an opinion, and his ethical stance. No problem with it. On the other side of the coin,I have recently planted some food plots myself. It has opened up a whole new facet of....I was going to say hunting, but it is more than that. Recreation? Fun? Wildlife preservation? Ha, I dont know...But it is fun, and I hope to shoot a deer off them, around them, whatever. And I believe it will help the deer in my area.. The bottom line? We have to stick together as hunters.
-
I think this question is something you have to ask yourself. It is perfectly legal to shoot them on the ground, in some eyes that would be unsportsman like. In a perfect world, game birds flush when you walk up on them. Sometimes they do not. Personaly I would take out the non flushers. Might be a little cheesy, but heck, your gonna eat them anyway. It teaches the others to get out of dodge by example.

The back arrow never works for me when I am at work, but it is fine at home...Must be specific computer related.

Looks like a cool place, for anyone interested. http://www.chesser21...461b&aid=104648

That is most likely the best post on the subject. Populations can vary greatly in a WMU. Making them much smaller would work in an ideal world. But the logistics of that are not feasible. Cheaters, boundaries, just would be a mess, unfortunately.
