  1. I guess that is true. I didn't think that they aren't factory holes. That leaves little option without redrilling or bases that allow for serious windage. 1ft off at 25yds is waaay off.
  2. I know nothing of Buehler rings and bases, but if you have to twist the ring in the base, be sure you have it correctly aligned before mounting the scope. I have to assume either the bases or scope are bad. Before wasting more ammo, if its a bolt action, I would bore sight with the bolt removed. I bore sight like that in my basement at 20yds on an archery target and am usually within 4-5" at 100yds at the range when I start the final sighting in.
  3. Quick google came up with this on effects of altitude on ballistics: "the ballisticard range cards dont' start adjusting for altitude until 600yrds. they say (in the case of a 308win) a rough estimate is .5 MOA for each 2000' change at 600 yrds." Assuming its correct, its not something I will have to worry about since I am not capable of shooting that far accurately, as far as I know. lol Not intended to derail thread, back to your regularly scheduled program.
  4. Don't do it pygmy, you may get hooked. Do ballistics change when hunting at high altitude?
  5. You had a 285lb 4pt. That is a slob of a buck no matter the size of the rack.
  6. I understand your point Belo, but I am not sure that would be necessary to recover a pen raised deer. That would have to be a detail worked out though. In then end, I am not interested in taking someone else's property even if it accidentally wandered on to my land. Might be no different than a neighbor's cow.
  7. Personally, I would have reported it to the preserve so that they could try to recover the deer they invested in. Just seems like the right thing to do. Whether I agree with preserve hunting or not, it was their property. Just like if I lost my wallet in the woods, I would hope someone would return it if found, including all contents. Now lets say that the company didn't recover it, gave up and it stayed wild for a couple of years, I probably would pull the trigger too since by then they have abandoned it.
  8. We did this when I was young, but since the last generation died off, it has gone by the wayside. Too bad.
  9. Probably why I am such a thoroughbred. lol
  10. You know your Italian when you love tripe. Heck, half my family won't eat it, but I love it.
  11. So I guess this supports Culver's idea to handle it area by area. I would really like a true late season - maybe two weeks in January (even if doe only and with limitations on weapons). Perhaps I am just greedy as I hate to see the season end. My wife already asked when I am going to start scouting for next year. lol
  12. The covert MP6s are nice. If you can stretch the budget a bit, the covert black 60s are better because you can actually see the photos on the camera monitor, plus true black flash.
  13. Call Matt Cantrell. He does a great job. I saw some fox mounted in his shop.
  14. Not sure this is true for everyone but it is nice to be called a young whippersnapper.

    Good attitude Dom!
  16. I am the old guy in my hunting group, but you guys are really old. lol
  17. OK - I will be the first to say I think its a pretty cool idea. I shoot 80lbs and would be willing to give them a shot, but $150 for 3 hunting arrows is very pricey. I shot rage hypos last year and they did a great job. The only time I didn't get a ton of blood was when I had organ pieces literally falling through the wound clogging the hole. The deer dropped quick. That said, I probably wouldn't shell out that kind of money for arrows.
  18. Finishing it off with a double during MZ on our last hunt was just icing on the cake. That was a fun day for sure too.
  19. This with a good pair of carhartt arctic extreme socks and sock liners will get you through the entire season. I wore the muck woody elite all year for the last three years. I finally learned that less pairs of socks with more room for air worked better. My feet were never cold this season.
