  1. I have the 6 arrow unit that I paid about 70 dollars for and a single arrow bitzberger unit for about 49 dollars. The bohning unit goes for about 35 dollars and is a good one for the archer that will be doing there own arrows. They now also have a new brand for the short BH vanes that does 3 fletch at a time, just put the fletchs in and glue the vane ridge line with glue and then move all them up and put on a lock washer and let them dry. very simple and seems to work like a charm.
  2. hey I will try that to stop the fogging.
  3. I have several of the tree screw in holder to hang the bow and or backpack in the tree . I also have a 24 inch bow hanger that screwinto the tree. It also has 3 clips on it to hang your calls etc. When I had a ATV I had a bow hanger on the streering handles of the ATV. But did not like that I then change to a hard plastic case that I mounted over the back wheels.
  4. If you are using a compound bow most use a 100 gr point or Bh. No when you talk to a trad hunter they use 125 gr point and some have them up a 225 gr. Tis decreases the speed of the arrow, but they are looking for increase in front of center and the weight up front will help them achieve increased peneration. They now sell brass inserts of 50 or 100 gr that increase the FOC and then they add the BH or point and that can give you up to 225 gr.
  5. They were rated very high in the dealer book this year as beeing a very excellent arrow that does not break very easy and seems to fly true. But I do just was well with the eastern Powerflight shafts that are about 1/2 the cost. I do not break them. I lose them shooting 3D's at unmarker distance, so far this year I have gone thru about 2 doz.
  6. I am like you I use reading glasses for the computer and bi focal for TV and work around the house with small partes etc. But when I go to shooting the bow I use a slide type fiber optic sight with .029 pin size and it works for me. If I use a 3 pin sight I have to again make sure I use the lager pins and or they bled together. I tried glasses and could not for the life of me get them not to fog up and or slip down when I was shooting.
  7. It may be that the spin test will show that those arrows that are not flying true the Bh is not on the shaft correctly. The spin test will show the wobble and that means problem will the much bigger with a BH...
  8. One of the best sights around. Good luck and what will you sight it in for. On my 3 pins sight I have them at 25, 35, 45 yards. So far in over ten years never had to use anything but the 25 yard pin...
  9. I have used buck lure to make mock scrapes and it sure works some times. I do suggest you make sure you use plastic gloves to keep man scent from your actions. I also put some of the scent on the hanging brace over the mock scrape.
  10. I took a pill bottle ( small ) and dirilled a hole in the top, took the top out put in some old 12 ga bore patches and then put some armor all in. I also put a piece of weed eater line on the pill bottle and used black plastic tape to tape to bottle. I now hang the bottle from my bow side quiver. I just push the arrow tip into the bottle for about a inch. I pull out and am ready to shoot. It sure does make it a lot easier to get out of some of those 3D targets.
  11. It might be a good way to take deer without making any noise in the gun season. I will keep hunting with my recurve or compound bow. I feel that the crossbow should have only be allowed if you could no longer hunt with normal archery equiptment that the disability was also certified by a doctor. Then I would suggest it should be allowed in all seasons.
  12. I also played around to see what occurs with FOC if you add weight. I know the trad guys all add up to 100 gr to upfront to help get peneration. I found that the .243 bullet copper will fit inside the 400 easton carbon shaft. I pulled my points / insert and added the .243 in 80 gr point with epoxy to the front of the arrow, I then with epoxy put back in the point / insert. I left dry for 24 hour. I found I did have to resight in the bow, but sure found that I get a lot more peneration on my 3D targets and seem to get great arrow flight. Bill
  13. That why I use lock tight on all the screws nuts and bolts. I had the same thing occur with a bow I was in the process of setting up and had the sight screwss start to come out and the sight was making a noise. So that when I went to my number 1 and backup bow and redid everthing with the lock tight.
  14. I am for my shooting skill as I shoot almost every day, id make up 4 ground linds on our land, and have shoot my 3D course of 32 targets every other day at unmarked distance. The bow are tuned, arrows made up and shot at BH target. My 308 Remington is sighted in with a new 3 to 9 power scope. I also have washed all the hunt togs, air dried, fesh pin in pastic totes and the togs packed in them. Now all I need is for a big buck to walk by...
  15. I only ask my next door guy if I shoot a deer on our land and it goes across can I be able to track it to recover the deer. I do not shoot on his land at all.
  16. any other senior hunters in the area of Oneonta that want to get together to shoot the bow and get ready for the hunting season ? give me a email....
  17. 95% of all deer taken on the eastern states is under 20 yards, but how west it more like the average is 30 yards...
  18. I think I have shot just as many deer with orange on as with camo. I hunt a lot of public land and you have to be a fool to hunt it without orange on. I also seem to see that in most of the cases were hunters shoot member of there own party it is due to they all are wearing camo in gun season. MY hunting buddy say he see more guys hunting his posted land with camo on. He see them part and then walk thru his posters. He now just takes the plate number and then goes right after them and tell them no to hunt his land they do not have permission. If found again he will call the cops...
  19. Lost another 2 lbs this week. I also shot each morning 26 3D deer targets. WOuld get up and at first light take the bow and do the course. I only missed that one day were we had the heavy rain all day. I also loved the shooting in the first light with the fog. It sured seemed that a buck of my dreams would step out...
  20. I had a guy that use to stop in my bow shop and had 3 drippers out in the Month of Oct thru the first week of DEC. He would buy this mix that made a full gal from a powder. He showed me photo's of the fake scrapes and how they were being used. I tried one year and did not work for me, but I also had a dripper that did not seem to have a good flow.
  21. Dicks in Binghamton carry the green wool pants and they now I think are close to $89 dollars. call them first and check to see if they have your size. I got a pair about 8 years ago, my wife added a few inces due to eating to much but they stilol work and wear like iron. I due also have a set of light weight coverall in camo and also a set of heavy weight coveralls they makes the pants I use when the snow start to fall with my green plaid coat. I do weat a orange hat in the gun season.
