  1. Keep the golden rod...maybe mow a few paths through it to walk and connect them to one where you would hang a stand. Deer will use it to bed and feel more comfortable moving in that than in an open field. These deer are creatures of edge habitat so the edge between the golden rod and woods should be a very good place to hunt.
  2. There's also the Calverton range, but i hear some bad things about that place.
  3. Arrows!! I've never met an archer who wouldn't mind having another dozen arrows. All the things before are great suggestions as well and a lot of arrows arent needed above good quality clothing. An extra stand is also a pretty good idea because all hunters wouldnt mind an extra stand.
  4. They do, but man those guys have some real conviction when it comes to this. You get rid of one there will be 3 more to take that persons place.
  5. Heard there wasnt much success there and the anti's gave everyone problems all the time. Scout it and see what you think.
  6. Sorry to hear about that! Spending time in the woods can really help you work through things. To us hunters being in the woods is better than any therapy out there. Glad to here you back and hopefully you have a great season.
  7. Federal has come out with affordable lead free rifle ammo for 4 popular cartridges. I know many people have not tried lead free because of the price, but these are only slightly more expensive than regular bullets like core lokt. If these would have been around last year i would have bought a few boxes of them instead of 3 of Barnes vortx. If anyone in interested I suggest you take a look at it. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Federal-Power-Shok-Copper-Rifle-Ammunition/2302632.uts
  8. Get out when you can, hunt till the very last second you can and never give up. Also practice with your weapon of choice, become proficient with it and learn what shots you can and cant take. Try to learn basic deer anatomy as well.
  9. Seems like everyone has their own opinion with what a big woods rifle should be. Just get a gun you don't mind carrying for long distances, and you can shoot well with...that's what matters the most. What works for you might not work for the next guy.
  10. Glad they came out! I think I spoke to them towards the end when they were getting their bow's tuned...seemed like a decent enough fellow.
  11. Thank you, I appreciate it but I believe you deserve all the praise for this event. It was well organized and well planned and I don't believe it could have gone much better than it did. I think you gave more information than any of us got when we started bowhunting so job well done!
  12. That's awesome! One of our members got a goat and showed everyone how to field dress and butcher a goat (similar to deer). Definitely a great thing to watch for new hunters and experienced hunters.I believe he was taking the fat off from around the heart in the pic.
  13. Appreciate it! NFA was hosting the 3D shoot at the very end I believe, but I was the youngest guy giving tips on shot placement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. It for sire was a great event! Not sure if you saw the shot placement booth that NFA and I started with but I heard he deer search was a pretty good as well. Glad to hear you had a good time though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I must be the only one wearing the one they give you with every tree stand. Its always worked for me and ive heard they are good quality harnesses as well so why not use whats free.
  16. Indeed there is! There is a lodge that has seating if they would like to stay indoors. If you go to the Suffolk Archers website, you should see it right away.
  17. Well I chose to get a 30-06 because that was the caliber my grandfather used and that was the one i was going too. There was no convincing me to change and I probably wont ever change. The rifle I am using now because I remember seeing commercials for it and I just loved it for some reason. When I finally turned 13 my parents got me a 12ga and the 30-06 that I am still using. If I didn't want that gun, I probably would have gotten the Remington 7600 my grandfather has. I'm loving this question!
  18. Looks great! T/C's are definitely shooters. My Icon has treated me well over the years.
  19. You'd probably be better off backing off a bit so you don't spook deer out of the plot and don't force them to hit the plot at night. Its better to be 25 yards off the edge.
  20. MOst of mine are around the 7 -8 foot mark but a couple are only maybe 4 feet, but loaded with huge tomato's
  21. Ive seen a fawn that was no more then a few weeks old in October! I was shocked to say the least.
