Apples and pears have leafed out already in the area I deer hunt. The area I turkey hunt always has leaf cover by may 1st because its in a giant valley. Should allow us to sneak up on the roost a little easier though.

Happy Birthday buddy!

With TSS i hear the .410 is good out to 40 or so yards. I wouldnt mind using one for turkey, but I don't ever see myself getting a .410 anyway

Oh i was thinking it was going to be somewhere in the 18-24 decoy range. I only have 12 right now so looks like Ill be able to bring all of them, plus a few floating goose decoys.
-
A sit on top is exactly what I was thinking. How many decoys can you usually carry?
-
Well I would mostly be using it as transportation to spots. At most I would sit in the kayak, but have it still attatched to the bank (or marsh) so I couldnt fall out of it. Shooting out of it is also something I was worried about so Im not sure ill be doing much of that. I may do a float trip once or twice in a small creek near where I deer hunt, but that may or may not happen. But the north Shore is also where ill be hunting out of a lot since I live close to Little Neck Bay and would probably be hunting Hempstead bay alot. I would also use it for fishing during the summer time as well. I missed some pretty easy shots the year (not that I had many to be honest lol) so I also miss enough as it is.

Which do you guys prefer to use for duck hunting? Ill mostly be using it to hunt on Long Island and also a little upstate on the wallkill river. The river does have some rapids if that dhanges anything. I was all for the kayak, until I realized the amount of strage is much better in a canoe and its a lot more stable than a kayak, but I like the ease of transport of the kayak

Live From The Woods 2019 Turkey Edition
ATbuckhunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
I did, but my mossberg came with a cheek piece that was replaceable with one that was much higher. Before I did that I had to rasie my cheek off the stock a bit and sort of rest my chin on the stock instead. -
Happy Birthday!

Ive been hearing the same thing. Im just too lazy to make the run down to NJ or the bottom of Staten Island. They'll be making their way up by us in a couple weeks probably.
-
I didnt want to get bait becuase I knew I was going to the gym after so I didnt want to stink like fish unless I actually caught something. Im going to wait a week or two and break out the bunker. Always have good luck with bunker in that spot

Got out today for a couple hours before going to train, but couldnt get a bite. The two other fisherman there also didnt get anything, but we were all throwing lures. Havent seen any of the regulars there, so im thinking it hasnt really been too good yet. Hopeing that'll change soon, because I did see some minnows around. No bunker seen by me yet though.

What a great series! I watch the whole thing at least once a year and it never gets old. My grandfather was in WW2 but at the time he was fighting for Yugoslavia

Went out today and 2 shots were dead on! Impatiently waiting on opening day to come
-
Pretty much. I don't see the need for a whole new class when you can easily get through the bow course info with in an hour. Its mostly shot placement, how long to wait, tree stand safety and maybe a couple other small things. Pretty much things I help teach every year at my archery club. I didnt mind it at the time because it was all cool stuff to me anyway. That being said I think im going to put in the paper work to become an instructor as well. I didn't know there was a shortage and would be more than happy to host a few courses a year in order to do my part.
-
When I took my course back in 09 it was 2 full days for both the firearms and bow safety class. Honestly the two classes werent different enough to warrent a whole different class, but thats a whole different discussion.

Why don't you just say meteores or nuclear war at this point? All of these CAN influence climate, but they currently are not. We know what IS influencing climate though, which according to you is not hard to understand. Wonder why we have deniers then? Again rediculous statement. Signing off this thread for the night though, enjoy your night.
-
Im a climate finatic because I am educated, look at the facts, realize that we may not be doing things the right way and support some measures to help mitigate the damage? If thats the case than yes I am cause I would hate to be what ever you are. Close your eyes all you like though. Dumb statement to make since the government is constantly trying making it harder and harder to research and use greener energy. So to you if people don't just go cold turkey to Fossil Fuels (which I never said was a good idea) they don't believe in it? You're just as bad as the people you complain about. Keep bringing up things im not even mentioning though, its working for you.
-
Its blatently obvious that you know next to nothing about this issue of climate change, what we can do to mitigate it, the science behind it and probably science in general. Again you can try to deflect all you like which anyone with capacity to think can see this through out the thread. I don't really care what these people say, I care what the science says. This is the main problem we are facing. People who don't know anything about it, but think they can tell the people who actually study it how things are. But go ahead and listen to the 'MIT" engineering graduate though, cause he barely has more qualification than John Kerry at this point. Ive had just about enough of this convo, but thanks for the entertainment while I wait for Game of Thrones to start Don't you have an economic downfall to predict Papist? Nothing of what you just said is true, but you can try to slander me all you like I really dont care.

I do believe China is the leading country in solar and wind energy research and development. They may take a while to give up on coal and oil, but theyre currently working on it harder than us. Our own president wants to go backwards instead of forwards. But these are both outside of the original topic of discussion.
-
You might not be able to tell exactly whats going to happen, but you can get a sense of things based on how things have been changing and how things were in the past. You might not think what happens in the past matters, but it can. Not true at all. We definitely do have to change things in china, but it also all has to start somewhere. One step at a time is how things change, but I already know that you think this is all a crock of shit so all of this is wasted on you.

Buddy we see the effects of climate change all around us and its only getting worse. That guy can it a pseudoscience all he likes, it doesnt mean its true. This is from the mouth of a guy who focused on math and physics and probably didnt touch biology, geology, or even chemistry as much as those who study climate science. Honestly him having two ENGNEERING degrees doesnt mean much at all to me...niether does him being a student from MIT. He can be a very smart man in his field, but hes not talking about his field now is he. Some of my best professors in physics were terrible in other aspects of science. Just because you are good in one field does not make you smart in all science fields and hes only proving it. Again the point about Geology is another red herring. Can it happen...yes, but did this happen in recent time...NO it did not. The problem with running with these statements is if you don't understand the science behind it, you can easily look dumb when people use it against you. Just because something may be true, does not disprove the anthropogenic damage we are causing. This is the only statement you have made that actually makes somewhat sense. We do need to reduce the carbon emmisions of countries like India and China, but that doesnt mean that the US isnt one of the largests sources of CO2.
