What's the best breed of hunting dog there is ?
ATbuckhunter replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
There are dog breeds that are classified as versitiles that do a lot of different jobs very well GSP's would be one of them. It wont do exactly what you want most likely, but it'll do a lot. You have to really look into what kind of dog will best suit your purpose. Im hoping to get a dog with in the next year or two and im really splitting hairs trying to figure it out. -
The TTSX tends to leave a hole thats bigger than the entrance, but not too much bigger. Basically just the size of the mushroomed bullet (maybe a little bigger), how ever big that is. If you hit bone (other than ribs), the exit hole will be huge though. Even when the exit hole isnt crazy big, the damage it makes is incredible. Ive never had a deer run more than 60 yards. Most of the time they go 20 yards and tip over. The big doe I got this year went maybe 20 yards before crashing. It was a 140 yard shot right through the lungs and no bones other than ribs hit.

Ive killed many deer with my 06 using the TSX and the TTSX in 180 grains. I really should be using 150's, but the 180's have been working for me so why change whats working. Penetration is outstanding and the accuracy is great as well. You'll probably get pass throughs on moose and elk. Randy newburgh on youtube uses the E-tips on elk and he has great success.

I have an american express and make small purchases here adn there and buy gas with it. You need to have good credit and having no credit is as bad as having no credit. With the small purchases Ive made, it gave me a credit score of around 830 I think. You're better off doing that than not having one at all

Knife Sharpening ?

I agree. Thats on eof the things stopping me from getting an expensive knife. The work sharp isnt too bad with the different belts though -

ATbuckhunter replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I use a work sharp electric sharpener. Works really well on the cheaper knives I use it on. You have to be careful because its super easy to round the tip. I wouldnt use it on expensive knives though -
About 45 minutes from me so I should be able to make it

LIVE From The Woods 2018 - Lets hear stories and see some pictures!
ATbuckhunter replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
No deer hunting for me today. I’m out smoking some deer and salmon I caught on the salmon river and doing a little duck hunting by the river. The complete lack of sucks I saw driving along the river made me think I wasn’t going to see a single duck, but after 20 min in my spot 2 black ducks came in cupped and I walked away with one. No decoys or calls, just sitting in a spot they like to go. I’ll be back out in an hour or so to try again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

I only have a 30-06 but my next rifle purchase will either be in 7mm-08 or 6.5 creedmore as a back up. I wouldnt want to buy the same caliber, because thats just boring in my opinion. Makes it easier with ammo, but that doesnt bother me much.

Depends on the quality of the property and goals, but I would say up to 2 doe and a buck. Id try to limit it to 1 doe if i had other properties to hunt

Ive been fly fishing for salmon/steelhead for a few years, and just started fly fishing last year. Id look at cabelas or even better sierra trading post. You can get some great deals on nice outfits. A 5wt will do you the best here in NY

Will do come spring time! Thanks for letting me know

I was thinking of doing that this spring. Trying to find people to go with me as I like company while fishing

Thinking of gun season with Muzzleloader
ATbuckhunter replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Muzzleloaders
Its actually both ways I think. A quick experiment shows that if you take a cold water bottle out of the fridge and keep it at room temperature, you'll quickly see condensation around the bottle. You are correct that warm air holds more moisture than cold air, so when you get something that goes from a cold enviornment to a warm enviornment, the cold object will cool the air around it. This then causes condensation becuase the air around the cold object reaches the saturation point of moisture, which then causes condensation. Obviously you are correct about going from warm to cold and the moisture inside the gun from the warm air causing condensation. -
Most of my family that is in America is in NY so ill probably never leave. And like others said, the taxes suck, but the country is beautiful here and the 4 seasons we feel is amazing. If I had a choise Id maybe want to live in Montana or one of those states, but it gets really cold there so im not sure.

Oh it definitely is. I had to study the science behind condensation for my meteorology class I took a couple years ago -

This is what I was told by everyone. Going from hot to cold and vice versa will crate condensation and the powder will be useless. At least this is what I was told -

Didn’t go deer hunting today, but I did try for small game. Figured we’d see some rabbits, but not any pheasant. Ended up walking right in top of 3 pheasants. All roosters. Missed 2 of them but ended up with one. My first pheasant ever so I’m really happy. Might get it mounted. One of the roosters I missed went right to my friend while he was in the phone so he dropped his phone and went to shoot at the bird. Problem is, he forgot to take his gun off safety so that bird was gone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 10374 replies

So how many different ways are there to field dress a deer?
ATbuckhunter replied to goosifer's topic in Deer Hunting
Ive field dressed them a few different ways and here is the way I prefer it. 1-Cut around the anus to loosen it up 2-Move up to the solar plexes(sternum) and cut down till I hit the intestines 3-Cut from the sternum down to the hing quarters 4-Cut the diaphram and stick my hands up the chest to seperate the esophogus 5-While keeping the blade in my domonant hand ill cut as high up as I can while holding the esophogus as low as possible 6-Pull everything out using the esophogus as a handle and its done Im not the fastest at it, but If done right it should be done in 10 or so minutes. When everything goes well, its actually a very enjoyable thing -
ATbuckhunter 2018 Whitetail Classic Entry
ATbuckhunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in 2018 HuntingNY Whitetail Classic
Completely forgot about putting the pictures of the deer that I got this year. As of right now I only have pics of the two doe that I Shot, but I do have the skull to the buck. Hopefully that’s still acceptable. All 3 were shot in 3M which I forgot to put in the card I wrote. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
A lot of absolutely great people on this forum, that want nothing more than for you to shoot big deer and have fun in the woods. I have only met a few people from the forum on here, but like you said they all feel like hunting buddies. Aside from my parents and a few close poeple to me, this is the first place i go to share the deer ive shot.

Very true, good point. Shows that it can happen to anyone if you're not careful. Seems like a really good guy though

I like him and his show. What made me laugh was when he and his crew got trichnosis because he didnt properly cook a bear he shot in alaska. I remmeber him saying a year or two prior that only idots get trichinosis from undercooked bear. Karma at its finest I guess.
