  1. Well my Oct lull is here, first hunt not seeing deer lol. Wind is double what was predicted and way more northerly , have to drop a stand to rehang tomorrow in a different spot.
  2. Much stronger wind then predicted . Oh we'll I'm here.
  3. Seen a few scrapes and rubs, however i walk mostly field edges to my stands that are 10 to 30 yards in the woods or thickets. I don't do any other walking around where I hunt,so my exposure to those things are limited ,I have however seen more deer in the early season then most years. 8 sits 8 times having deer come through ,about a 4 or 5 average. That's a good sign !
  4. Opposite for me,second slowest sit this year, 4 or 5 came by. Hard to see them well in a thicket unless they step, into one of my two lanes. Good luck.
  5. North wind is just what I need for this stand just inside thicket. 20 yards south of a major trail that comes off a bean field . I also have a view of a cut corn and winter wheat field on Large hill . Slowest hunt yet ! 2 deer one nice doe but I got two lanes to shoot and she did not give me a shot. 9 00 just busted by deer #3. Trouble with hunting thickets got on top of me without me seeing it . Couple snorts did not run though .
  6. Not speaking for Phade, but some hunters are protective of their area and don't like to,draw attention to it. I've taken to looking at a guys profile page and noting the number of views it gets after a nice buck pic. Is posted. It goes way up,so,guys are checking that person out after the pics. are posted, what are they lookin for idk. Perhaps info like where they hunt. The farm I hunt ,is controled ,managed if you will a large farm and few hunters. Guys won't even send pics to each other ! Want to seethem you have to stop by. Once it gets sent out ,you loose control of who sees it,and the whole area learns what you got. We've had poacher issues and work hard to limit it. Controlling pics.is one way . In the old days you just lied to others hunters who stopped by at the road. " any luck? " "no"! " how'd you do this year?" " oh a couple of does......" " where did you get that buck?" " in the woods......" I know guys with 150"160 qnd 170 class deer who don't enter them In Any club ,put them in any newspaper . Some guys are like that.
  7. Every time I call her and say," I'm at the road, be home in 40 minutes" I swear I hear a sigh....
  8. Hum the guy I know who is the son of the guy who shot the large one is 40 or so. So that can't be his Dad. I do not have his cell number and the day i saw him he did not yet have a pic. I'll try to get his cell and see IF he'll send me a pic. However he was really talking about the deers sheer body size over antler size. These are hunters who've seen and killed plenty of large bucks ,so if it impresses them it's gotta be huge Rochester huge...
  9. I'm screwed in another ten days or so,when day light savings time ends and everyone sets their clocks back. I have the following two weeks off and just like the deer I still operate based upon the sun,and don't set anything back ! When I go back to work I set mine back . It's all just an arbitrary date they pick,I pick one that suits me better !
  10. It's going to depend upon the individual ,and shape is going to be a bigger factor then age I'd think. I'm 55 I use climbers and hang ons all the time ,but I'm leaning towards ladders just for the ease of use,and I've had great hunts in some this year. I work as a LT in a city FD, I climb ladders with 80# s of stuff on and in my hands, open up roofs, carry, lift and drag heavy things and so on,so climbing in a hang on is not a challenge . My point being it's not a thing one can put an age on I do,however worry more about healing from a fall as i age, Harness, line tied off above each stand ,Prusik clipped into at the ground. Oh and I train with this stuff,I hang from stands and practice getting back in or down. Not anywhere near as easy as I thought btw. Wife has my stand locations and phone numbers of locals who also have my stands on their phones. If she does not hear from me at a set time,I'd imagine she'll erase the numbers and locations in her phone......
  11. Sitting here looking outside trying to decide to hunt or not. No rain which I feared we'd have but it's very windy trees are rocking. With only 3 days of work from now till Nov. 17th,I just picked my bed over the tree.
  12. Program is open,a friends father took a buck a couple days ago that was to big for him and a couple cops to,get on the scale . The IPD controls the hunt and you call them when you get a deer, they then take it back to the police station to gut, weight, check out its health and so forth. They said it was the largest ( body weight ) deer ever taken in the town hunt and bigger then anyone has ever seen, that's saying something with the hunt going on what close to 15 or 20 years? That park held some freaking slob deer too. Moog PM me the name of the hunter if you wish I can then confirm , but the last name starts with C..... You live In Webster ,do you hunt in that town bow hunt? I did the first year, took the first deer ever killed I that program .its to over crowed now for me.plus I knew the land very well before the official town hunt,it's just not the same anymore for me. I know Irondquote hunt is similar ,must be a successful bow hunter, hunt AM only, be able to hunt many days,no week end warriors ,shooting test and so forth,I'll find out the details in a few days for you.
  13. Had friends who's house was the last one on a private dead end st. Behind the house was a creek then woods. You could drive up park your car get out and walk to the house and the deer in the yard 10 or 15 yards away would just look at you. He now lives in the Flats in Irondequoit ,anyone around here knows that's a town over run with deer,he has feed them apples out of his hand in his yard. If your yard is in the woods with few people around the deer will be jumpy around people, if it's a sub division full of people ,dogs and cars 24/7thats everyday life for them.
  14. I would not use the stand myself. Everyone we 've had issues with were sneaking on when nobody was around,or poaching at night. Someone hanging a stand and placing cameras sounds to me as if they think it's ok for them to be there, those people you at least have a chance to reason with.
  15. Sure this is the second bow I've owned in 26 years bow hunting.its a Reflex Highlander,I really can't remember who makes the drop away rest or sights( dead something) ,or tell, you the poundage or draw length . The arrows are carbon express I believe with Stinger heads.
  16. The $70 my butcher charges( although he has given me a break on fawns ) has the smallest effect on the price per pound . Lic. $100, new stands, guns ammo, boots and countless tanks of gas I go through, gift to farmer about $100 . Now I have not shot a fawn in quite awhile, but that's to avoid killing BB. Few years back 8 BB were killed on the farm,we pass up young antlered bucks but kill the BB,did not make a lot of sense . But when I do I feel like I should fill my freezer with a pile of them ,they are mighty tasty! Plus anyone can hit a large target....
  17. Well ya, they'll be covering all the Black Friday shoppers.
  18. Ok now 2 bedded 30 yards behind me in open hardwoods , I gotta get down soon ....
  19. No but metal detector is under stand . Going to look 9 30 ish 8 40 buck grunting and chasing doe. Rain started did not hear them 2 doe just ran off from under stand!
  20. Now a young buck stood up at first thinking it was a nice size doe
  21. 2 small doe under stand last 10 minutes could have spit on them
