Student Loan Debt Curbs Housing Market by $83 Billion, Study Says
Nomad replied to AaronBlaine's topic in General Chit Chat
If they forgive college loans,I'd guess my wife will be on a roof top somewhere with my .270. I'm a freaking fireman and she works part time in an office, and we paid cash for our two kids college. Ones an RN at Strong the other is finishing her masters and already has a job with one of the big four accounting firms when she gets out next May.( CPA) If one saves, invests lives below their means, they can send their kids to state school .Or you can drive expensive vehicles ,live in large homes and so forth and put your kids in debt . Your choice Just don't ask me to pay for it. If loans are a kids only way ok, Live at HOME and commute ,its room and board that costs the most. But no they want " the college experience " well then you want it you pay for it. We did for our kids. -
Sorry about that did not mean it to come out like that. Her point was all about bow hunting and how she thought bow hunters were all wounding animals,I was trying (poorly) to say that most took great efforts to be good shots and only take good shots. That bow took a little more work and effort to do well, and the stereotypical hunter she had in her mind would be less inclined to be a bow hunter. My post was long and rambling did not mean to offend.

DEC doing Public Land Survey- Better Voice it NOW!
Nomad replied to mike rossi's topic in General Hunting
I took it ,but you must bullet vote.that means check hunting only, when given vote for any or all voting for more then one takes away from the one that you care the most about. Although I tend to agree with Wooly , I made my stand with hunters even though I never outside of a few trips to the ADK hunt state land. -
Animal loving anti hunter ! I ive been going for two impinged shoulders, after a few visits you get to know each other pretty well which helped. Today I told her that the day before I shot my bow to see how it went, ( three arrows only all in the center dot of the block at 20-25 yards) I could tell by her look all I needed to know. She could not hold back ,first saying "why do I choose to hunt them in such a cruel and painful way,as bow hunting causes great suffering. That was great to hear as I knew she did not know much just the bs from the PETA types, this allowed me to educate her while respecting her opinions. I got to explain that bow hunting was more of a challenge and that slob hunters don't want to do all that hard work bow requires, Bow hunted deer are " natural ,in there patterns and behaviors, the challenge is figuring it out. That a large percentage of deer I have bow killed never even knew they were shoot with an arrow, just snapped their head up looked around and went back to feeding, that most fall over in sight of my stand. She thought we lost most hit by arrows or that guys just shot them and never looked for them or just cut off the antlers. I got to address all those concerns. I told her I have killed deer by bow shotgun, rifle ,handgun, muzzle loader and car. That bow was a clean fast kill if both lungs were taken out,the car was the worst, and gun is clean and fast but some will tend to take risky shots in gun ,and we need to change that. What I,learned, she really liked that I said a little prayer after taking a deer, giving thanks for allowing me to,take an animal in a clean fast way. That she was very concerned with deers being hit by cars, and after one talk almost admitted hunting may be a better choice ,that the misconceptions of leaving deer to rot ,bad shots, pin cushiony deer, slob hunters is our biggest obstical to over come because her thoughts were not close to reality ,but by letting her talk then calmly explaining the facts and truth,it went rather well. Now we'll see if she fixes my shoulder in time for now season! My draw arm is mostly ok it's the left arm that hurts just holding the bow at full draw.

One can kill ten or more legally. Super sportsman is 5 ,my area giving 2 additional doe tags for 7, add in 2 dmaps ,up to 9 ,then if you own crops the nuisance permits will bring you over 10 easily .oh I think guys can sign over doe tags as well so you can do it with out the nuisances permits. Which is nice since, gutting them on hot summer nights is no fun......

Had one in the 70's, a White I believe . Found some old tools, coins ,tokens and the like.

Against dept.s rules and regulations . The real funny part is they tried to give me two memorandums for appearing on a stores Facebook ( they begged for a pic. ) buying shaving soap in uniform. I had 90 likes all positive comments ,but our number two In command lost his mind over it,not that he had much of one to begin with!

2 weeks ago my wife and I are in our boat, coming in to the bay from Lake Ontario. We pass a channel marker maybe 20 feet away with a bird a top it ,my wife says "look at the size of the sea gull!" Um that's a young eagle ! It is brown after all..... I should have pulled out my phone and went back for a photo, still regret not doing so.

Send her to Rochester......

Just found out I'll be at the Pearl st Brewery in Buffalo Sat. Night ,taking youngest and her BF of 4 years out to eat. He's from Texas, but went to UB on a full ride for soccer but will be going to law school next year in Iowa, where it turns out his grand parents own a farm! Looks like they have some nice beers there, may have to spend the night......

I'm on board with those. I just picked up a growler of Scotch Ale for tonight!

Only the last 30 years or so ! Back then they were called micro brews. Been out to Seatlle to drink and tour their micro brewerys in the 80s. My favorite Dogfish Head Raison D'être was discontinued ,which I have not found a suitable replacement as of yet. This has caused me great struggles . As for Genny, I do try to support them, they are adding jobs in Roch. So I feel an obligation to help, them along. For a house brand they have some decent stuff,I really like the Bock, and the light ( I never drink light ) stands up,against anyone's. Sometimes I just drink Gennys to thumb my nose at the beer snobs,I've drank more craft beers then a dozen of the newbie drinkers combined, yet I would never put anyone down for their choice. Genny also make plenty of craft beers. Damn, I'm just off nights, now I want to make a trip to the beer isle ! I get. Heady Topper from a neighbor who goes up there from time to time. Over all not an IPA fan, more of a malt guy.

I thought my crossbow comment would be easily seen as humor ,kinda a poke at the fear the anti xbow crowd puts forth.747. I happen to hunt a few thousand acres of managed land, just started to put up a couple hundred more posted signs, then it'll be bulldozing tails, bush hogging, moving countless stands. So I don't think I'm that lazy,I just hunt the way I want ,if that ok.....

The trick is finding enough hunters who will fill them. I don't come close to filling all mine, super sportsman plus 2 dmaps, because I don't need that much meat. It's just me and the wife at home now. Two deer are plenty for us and frankly I give a bunch of the ground away. Sure I take a deer here and there to give away, but now much work am I willing to do to give them away, and I'd rather sit and wait for a buck of shootable size then, take a doe for another. What we need is more hunters, not more tags per hunter . But don't worry what with crossbows now legal,I d imagine all the deer will be killed with in 2 or 3 days and the dec's goal will be exceeded........

Still a lot of waterskiing weeks left,I guess in a month or so I'll move few stands and maybe shoot the bow.

Nomad replied to eagle rider's topic in Deer Hunting

My dream is to go out with gun/ bow and a knife, light simple no fuss. Then oh I need a pen to fill out tags,ok a headlamp ,haul rope, harness, binos are nice to have ok some food and water, like to have extra gloves and face mask as I seem to loose them. Never go out with out Atomic Fireballs. Before I know it I got half of Gander Mt in my pack. Which is ok I like to be prepaired .

Well you'll be a hunter and Father for life, the balance shifts as the years go by. I'm at the point I can hunt most days, but when the kids were young and my wife worked m-f I watched them during my off time m-f,,then when she was home week ends ,well I work half the week ends...... Those days you do get out will be sweat, enjoy.

This summer I've been on Canandaigua ,Irondequoit Bay,Lake Ontairo and up the Genesee river. There's sure are no shortage on the water..... I don't go up the river much ,I was amazed at the shear number and size of the boats docked in the river . The Lake yesterday was dotted with uncountable numbers of white sails. More and more marinas and docks being built. Been going out on boats for 55 years now. Stopped going out on week ends 25 years ago,I'll take that back,I'll go out on friends boats for a cruise, but I would not launch mine on a week end for $100.

Wet wipes are way better then TP. Does a better job, and can wash hands after with another one. As for first aid kits I highly recommend Quick Clot and Combat Gauze . If you ever cut an artery ,vein,or take a bullet it can save your life. You can carry both in a shirt pocket and not know they are there.

If you can't find a place, I may let you hop in a stand,if you want to drive an hour plus east on the thurway a time or two. I hunt a several thousand acre farm ,of which I have exclusive use of a coupe, hundred acres. Many stands in place managed for big buck and doe only. If nothing turns up,I may hook you up ,so,you can get out a couple times at least. PM me your contact info if you wish. Don't worry about doe tags, the farm gets a pile of dmaps.

Talk to professionals in the area. By that I mean a real estate lawyer, who has handled sales of that type of land in that area. My good friend was looking for hunting land,I hooked him up with my nephew who is a lawyer and does sales in the area. The land was way over priced,it was scurb land. Due to size shape, terrain it could not be farmed, not good for building lots and the like. It had very little value other then rec. use. He got it at far less then asking price.

Daughters both went there, one took her boards Monday .. Her BF was pre med and got into a med school in NYC is still waiting on UB to reply. I'd guess you'll be living by the South campus,be very aware ,lots of crime in some areas students being the victims. Talked to a BPD Capt. Who said he assigns 10 extra officers just to the college area. Don't know much about hunting around there, although judging by the thurway death toll, around the airport seems to have many deer.... Good luck !
