I live in Webster and have never driven to Auburn to go to bps. Nobody I know has that I m aware of,we have talked about it never did it. This one will be 20 minutes away, and many in Monroe county hunt south, which puts it right In the path. Not to mention the poor saps who 's wives make them go to the "mall" with them now they have a place of refuge near by.

What kayak for fishing/deer hunting?

Having canoed all over North America, from the Yukon to the ADK, I would avoid aluminum canoes for many reasons. You can pick up a little used Old Town on Craig's list for cheap. $1,000 Discovery 169s for $300. Can't destroy them, quieter, slip off rocks easier,if you some how manage to damage it ,can be repaired on the spot if you carry the kits. Being moulded the widest part is just to the rear of center which means they track much better then aluminum ,which are stamped out just one side then flipped over to match up,meaning widest part is in center . -

We used to do a Letchworth bow hunt with about a dozen guys from work, one time a guy wore some kinda of floppy type safari hat. One of the guys could not stand it, it really seems to,bother him. Next year everyone had as strange of a hat as they could find.....

What do you do ? You stay off the land until you have the owners permission . Not calling you back may be a hint to his thoughts about it. Try one more time, then move on.

Collecting Old Bottles, China, Other Things
Nomad replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
Lots of little piles of glass and rust, in most farm woods,I've grabbed a few bottles here and there. A friend dives in the finger lakes,he's got a ton of old bottles and can talk for hours about the age,how it's made, what it was used for and on and on. -
Nice! I have one of their fixed blades that is my beater knife. Hack, dig, pry, used it last week to dig and cut roots below grade, wash off, few swipes on a stone ready for more. I have knives with the latest super steels, but 1095 is still used for a reason.

Tags? We don't need no stinking tags !
-
Only NY and Wisconsin have back tags at all. Some like to collect them, fathers have passed their number down to sons . That's cool and all,but that's about it. I put mine on my pack, that way walking its displayed,in my stand it's also displayed as the pack hangs from the tree. With my back against the tree the tag would not be displayed but more important to me it does not rub agiast tree making noise ,or get caught in harness.

In my younger days I canoed AK,Yukon,BC etc. My thoughts the sunny pics you see of AK are all taken on the few days the sun shines.... Wife has friends there ,they work hard for 6 months and go to Hawaii the other 6. I can't tell you what to do, I know it's not for me though, but if you think our winters suck.....

136 Acres for Sale in Northeastern PA
Nomad replied to chrisp2958's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
Close to NYC and Philly will not be a selling point to many here. As for land prices, where our land is Canandaigua,Ontario county farm land does not even get listed, and if it does it's bought up in less then an hour by a handful of farm families, one of which I have ties with ..... the prices have been rising nicely . I'd imagine in that area the of price 7500 an acre may will be good. -
Sorry the only swing arm i know of is on motorcycles.

Like each Memorial Day. I went to a shelf in the family room and looked at the folded flag, the dog tags, the photos of monuments at Arlinton with my families name on them, the letter from FDR. I reread the old newspaper clipping titled , " war takes heavy toll on Hilton family". It explained how my fathers 2 uncles and one brother were killed in the same week, and he who was also serving in WWII was then sent home. I thought of my uncle who served in both world wars and survived being on TWO ships that were sunk, only to be killed during a street robbery in San Diego. To all those who died in the service of this country today I think of and thank all of them, and I share the grief of their families.
