There’s a lot of truth in Steve’s post . The overall age structure has improved,and the hunting pressure is maybe 1/10 of what it used to be where I hunt . Which is both good and bad . There used to be pick up trucks of 8 plus hunters everywhere going from spot to spot , go to lunch come back and find that 15 guys pushed your spot . You’d be in a stand and here comes another group through . It kept the deer moving all day, but you’d better be able to hit them on a run . Going back in time a bit more ,and we needed three hunters to apply for one doe tag aka party permits . As a kid running around in the woods, it was rare to see a deer , today they’re all over my town , to the point there’s a town hunt to cut down on the numbers , just like in the next town over as well .

Nope, but Fla for Feb and March then my nephews lake house in Tenn on the way back . He’s says I’ll catch 25 bass an hour . We just cancelled a hog hunt in Fla . They said a Hunter wouldn’t enjoy it , you can shoot one in 20 minutes ,while wearing flip,flops and shorts , it’s for tourists who don’t hunt lol .

Wow I don’t even wear insulated gloves most years .

My only problems with the big packs , is I don’t go through them fast enough , and in a idk 2-3 years or so they loose their ability to produce much heat . This year I never used any ,so they sit . Plus 1 on the heated vest . I bought 4 more for gifts last Christmas, our daughter loves hers for football games .

So walking out this year i found a dead buck all tore up by yotes along the edge of the woods, minus his antlers , which were small to boot . I started freaking out ,no one is around my spot and , why even poach a dink ? Well after a number of texts , I learned there was a road kill by my spot , the buck was in the edge of the yard of the lady who owns the field next to our woods . Seems someone stopped and cut off the antlers , she didn’t want it in her yard and used her ATV to drag it up to the woods , a 1/2 mile away . sometimes there’s a logical explanation, but often we’ll never know .

Every year is a good year for us , our kids are crushing it ones a CPA manager, the other a RN Killing it in OT. Both learned to invest from pops and both are world travelers ,who pay no attention to you know what . we haven’t stayed home , or wore masks any of that bs , Fla for the winter and Alaska this summer . Thousands of rounds of ammo,months of food , and I started buying American Gold Eagles by the fist fulls for shits and giggles . oh and the rent we collect on our farm land just went up by 30% Good job on the student loans ! If they forgive them Mrs Nomad Will be rooftop my an AR15 !!! We paid for our kids college , 11 years of it ….

Sure our farm is 3000 acres divided up among a few friends and family and many surrounding farms abide by the same hunting principles as us, no walking or driving , let young bucks walk yada yada . it’s still first and last light that pays off .

Lol where? I’ve been to the Post Office ,several stores , bars ,restaurants and the gym most days maskless, all in a county that’s enforcing it . Nobody has said word one to me , and I have plenty of maskless company. The bars are packed zero masks , the gym 50-60 people maybe one or two mask freaks . But,but,but there’s a mandate ….which means absolutely nothing .

You realize he’s a moderator who makes his living in I.T. Right ? as for the video , it was b-o-r-i-n-g , my God first half was a drive down a dirt road . I kept skipping ahead for the meat of the story , yet it never came .

Deer don’t “ go nocturnal “ they are nocturnal. Theres perhaps 6-7 hunters within a mile of me on the farm ,most hunt lightly ,food sources are plentiful, outside of the rut there’s little to no reason to be on their feet much in daylight.

Talking with the taxi who hunts close to me , he echoed those comments . He said he has a ten acre food plot,and on warm days like today zero deer hit it , but if it was ten degrees he’d have 20 in it .

Yep. The dairy farm next to the farm I hunt has a large manure lagoon, and “ our “ farm pays them to apply it to the land near them . The hoses and relay pumps let them go well over a half mile if not a mile . I’ll text the farmer,but I’ve read that the bigger farms are first in line for fertilizer. As for food we could probably go 3-4 months ( more meat wise ) without buying any .

Forgive me , but the taxidermy section is pretty dead, so I’ll through this here , it came from a woods, well bean field . Just got him back today .

Flètch, I know I quoted you, but my post was aimed at anyone with these permits . Last time in Fla. we had company for a few days one guy from NY brought his handgun and all he had was a NY permit , Yikes ! Many just don’t know .

It’s a little tricky, like some states are listed as honoring Penn permits but it’s only ones issued to Penn residents . Florida is one of those states . That’s in retaliation to Penn going from honoring both res. and nonresident Fla permits to only res. permits . Some states are also “ duty to inform “ get pulled over for a traffic violation , you must inform officer you’re carrying . While in Fla I can carry in a restaurant but not a bar OR bar area of a restaurant. One really has to do ones homework prior to traveling.

Somewhat related, Mrs Nomads best friend called around the end of the summer to say they booked a trip to Ireland , and would we like to join them ? Mrs said sure , then was told it’s the first week of Nov., sorry she said that’s the rut .

I’m one degree of separation from Jerry Jones, and Tom Coughlin former Giants coach . Tom’s best friend built a house on a lot my father in law sold him, he was always telling me “ insider “ stuff about players , not being a football guy I had know idea who he was talking about . My nephew does venture capitalists stuff with Jones . He was also best friends with the Titian’s QB years ago ( lived nextdoor )and had a Saints player who lived on the other side . He had a Titian’s players pass as well . I couldn’t tell you who won the Super Bowl last year …

That’ll fill up a pick up and pay for a prime rib with maybe enough left for a box of ammo .

It’s Rochester with a higher per capita homicide rate then Chicago . Hundreds shot , 82 homicides , gun fights of dozens of rounds , one’s not scaring off these crows that easy . Firecrackers lol .

I got fla and Utah both on the same one day class . Covers around 38 states last I knew .
