That barn wood and hand hewn beams will sell fast . My nephew took down his75 foot long , 200 year old barn and sold every bit of it, the hewned beams are used for fireplace mantels . The wood is lining everything from bars to Dr.s offices . I have a couple small pieces left for projects .

One needs to balance what you want it to do vs. what you got in it . Many won’t spend a few grand to protect a couple grand in guns . Do you want to, protect guns from kids and sneak thieves ,or protect many thousands of dollars of guns ,cash, jewelry , gold from more knowledgeable thief’s ? One problem with “ safes” is guys load them up like Easter baskets , all their guns , jewelry ,cash, cameras , high end binos , all in one spot ,where before the safe it’s all spread out in the house . Most box store safes can be entered with a angle grinder in minutes . Or pried open . Whatever you get keep it out of sight, if I know the brand YouTube will tell me the best way in , and bolt it down in a corner . Oh for nine years I built safes . if you want an actual safe look for TL30 and above .

Stocks make up way less then half our holdings, and more towards income then growth , yet looks like we made around 8k today . lol I didn’t figure in my wife’s 401k which is our biggest holding .

You look at your break even year, for me 75 . So if I start to collect at 62 or wait till 67, at 75 I’ve collected the same amount every year after I’m ahead . i trust the actuarial tables, and combine those with my family’s life history and health , we live till our 90’s and beyond , so that’s a six figure gain , for me by waiting . I’m good with that

One interesting thing about females on the FD, is zero woman work on a Truck, they’re all on Engines or staff . Truck work involves heavier tools and equipment, that you often have to use to accomplish a task by yourself . Dragging a charged line up stairs and around corners can be hard work too, but the Engine works as a team on that line . Throwing up a heavy ladder there’s no team doing it , just you , carrying a 35# saw up,that ladder while wearing 80# it’s just you . Pulling an adult out a second floor window ,putting them on your shoulder, ( I’ve done it ) and bringing them down the ladder it’s just you . We all take the same test and go to the academy ,where there’s one standard ,well kinda . But on the line it’s where things fall to their natural order .

Congrats ! And you’re to be commended for those long long days ! You’ll do fine , my only issue being retired is with things closed down , and living on a suburban lot limits what I have to do around the homestead. Land and an out building would be awesome !

There are no, men’s and women’s bathrooms in any firehouse where I worked . Same for bunk rooms . Enjoy all the sights and sounds ladies !

As many know wife wants to move to Tenn. our daughters are here so for now so am I . But all her friends have left the state , there’s only one couple left here we do things with ( and they’re in FLA for six weeks currently) , I still hang with the guys I worked with , but they’re much younger so we don’t do the couple thing . Our daughter and her fiancé are in FLA right now , they’ve visited one set of our friends, my wife’s best friend ,my sister and BIL along with his Aunt and that just the ones nearby ! Pretty sure we’ll pick up a condo there shortly ,for the winters to come . Ya the constant lack of sun here is depressing, when you fly from NY to FLA ,once you step outside it’s like when the Wizard of OZ movie goes from BW to color .....

She’s not going to drive down by herself . Our old Beagle has many health issues and can’t really travel ,otherwise we’d be down there now . I had to,let him out last night at 1,3,5:30 . If we both leave the house for more then a couple hours , he howls the whole time , and there’s a maybe 1 in 3 chance he’ll crap on the kitchen floor . So he’s tying us down , one more thing goes wrong with him and he’s going to be buried on the farm , and we’re flying to an island , well maybe drive to FLA depending on mask rules at airlines then .

I’ve been trying out ones that are supposed to be easier to breath through . Mrs Nomad has copd, I’m trying to get her to go to FLA where all her friends moved to ,but she doesn’t think she can wear an airline approved mask ( no face shields , neck gators, mesh, or valves ) for the duration of the flight . Not to mention walking any distance in the airport pulling a suitcase , she simply can’t do it with a mask on .

Ya, took me three hours , and when the truck was in view it was torture getting to it ! I used to cross country ski , I loved It but arthritis in the balls of both feet put an end to that . I really want to go again and swap cards, there’s a snowmobile trail that runs along my spot I may try that for easier walking if it’s packed down .

I’ve never liked that I have to have the Y chromosome and females the X . X is a way cooler consonant , a much harder sound , and cool words start with X , The X-men ,xtra cheese ,where as Y doesn’t even know if it’s a consonant or vowel, and what starts with Y , Yellow and Yummy .
