I have thought about having a mirror to see behind me also!!! I have one stand in the open hardwoods where I have to scan 360 degrees it's very difficult on long sits ,,,most of my stands I don't have to check 360 all the time due to the way they are set up,, I know exactly how you feel Wildcat...

Apparently not !!!! http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/deerview-mirror?a=308877

This is something I have thought about before ??? A circular hoop that would attach to the tree and act as a railing with two supports that could be attached to the stand .. It would do two things make you not so nervous when you stand up and give you a sense of security, and also could have came attached to help concel you.. I regularly use cheap portables and select trees that I can attach a 2x4s for railings and use a camo wrap ,, it works well ,,also gives you a place to rest gun or bow while sitting in addition. Trees to use 2x4s are always not available in the location desired and not able to use on certain property's or state land ,, just a thought

I always write notes and place in my back tag for next year of things that I want to do. Like new stand locations or just thoughts on hunting strategies , just notes to myself , I seem to forget as the year passes and get busy with other things ...

Pole Barn
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to SplitG2's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Pole barns are the easiest building to build ,,, I wouldn't buy a kit ??? I built one for a customer that was a kit and was a nightmare,, everything has to be just right and sorting the materials ,, not much fun, as spending the time reading their prints... Any local lumber store,, not the big chains will usually help you lay it out and get a material list if you buy the materials from them ... -
I don't think they should make gun season longer??? I think they should move the season around??? Making gun season start a week early than it does, and the whole season end a week earlier ... personally I think more deer would be harvested ,if that's what they are looking for ??? I think the problem lies in some WMUs have different populations , and they differ within themselves,, just miles apart.. The urban deer are becoming a issue I don't know how this factors in the DECs numbers but must mess them up somehow .. Just my 2 cents really not worth 1 cent ...

1966 Watertown NY Daily Times hunting ad.
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to 132 eight pointer's topic in General Hunting
Not to bring up a sore subject but I was interested in the shooting hours times that was posted in that ad ,, It states 7 to 5 prevailing time ??? I'm not sure I understand the meaning of that?? -
It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt

Deer ready to breed December 13th???
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
It appears I was wrong in my prior post I found this which may lead to explanation??? For instance, the more hydrated a deer is the less color will be seen in their urine. When a whitetail is dehydrated, or when they are feeding on more acidic food such as acorns, their urine will be much more concentrated and appear orange. I once tracked a buck whose urine was actually purple. Initially, I thought perhaps something was wrong with the animal, but later learned that he was feeding heavily on blue juniper berries. When deer are on a restricted diet, which is often the case during the breeding stage of the rut, their urine appears very dark, almost red in appearance. To the casual observer it would seem that there is blood mixed in with the urine. The reason for this coloration of urine is the result of the deer’s body metabolizing fat reserves in the absence of food intake. What is critical, especially to a buck, is not the color of a doe’s urine but the pheromones she is emitting during that critical three-day period that she is ready to breed. -

Each Pyrodex Pellet contains a black ignitor on one end. When loading the Pellet, for best ignition, place the black ignitor end of the Pellet into the barrel first. No orientation is necessary for Triple Seven Pellets. Not necessary for triple 7 That's why it wasn't stated on my package .. Thanks

I read this and said hmmm. Something I never knew???? Then I got my box of Hodgdon triple 7 pellets out and looked at them and read the box and pamphlet with it , and there is no mention of this.. Where did this information you posted come from.??

I particularly like the unknown factor of never knowing what will transpire or happen .. Also the personal challenge that goes along with hunting ,,

Possible Reasons for a Bad Gun Season?
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to CharlieNY's topic in Deer Hunting
Opening day always opens on a Saturday this year was the 15th ,, 2011 was the 19th it changes every year shifting a day with the calendar ,, this year was early IMO a good year for me just not connecting with what I was looking for The rut doesn't change IMO it is driven by the amount of daylight which triggers it,, based on the dates around the moon phase.. Not the Saturday date of opening day of gun season... -
Possible Reasons for a Bad Gun Season?
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to CharlieNY's topic in Deer Hunting
The PEAK of the breeding season Is winding down after the first week of gun season,, opening day of gun is the tail end of the rut ,, that is why bow hunting the two weeks before gun is such a great time to be in the woods,, Of course that is MHO... -
So your saying if it was available for sale you would not buy it????

I have always wondered why they can't produce a pellet with a coating that is waterproof yet burns , to keep moisture out of the pellet ?????

Comparing legal shooting time to driving the speed limit
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
I speed to !!! It's really not a big difference,, it's that everyone has their definition of what laws are MORALLY ok for them to personally break.. If you think speeding isn't a crime??? turn your radar detector off and rack up a couple of tickets, and don't go to court and tell me how that works out for you... Seeing a deer on the side of the road and complying with game laws to take a animal is legal,, morally it may not make you feel like a successful hunter, again what is ok for you morally.. -
You are aware that deer see better at night ...

Why don't you give Highland Forrest a try??? I also live very close by Cicero swamp and have never heard of pigs, except in the bars around there ,, but I don't drink so would know first hand ... There is a rattle snake that is its own species that lives in the swamp and that's for real... http://www.brocku.ca/massasauga/bibliography/Johnson%20and%20Breisch.pdf
