    Trapper wanted.

You need them in there before deer season if want the problem solved. When the ground freezes and the snow gets deep, most trappers will be into water trapping. Also most coon will go into hibernation by that time of the year.
  3. That looks like the 2006 flood too. Was this taken last week ? Twice in 5 years, they should give up.
  4. FEMA is giving assistance to Otsego county residents, not sure about non-residents. Here is the county website. You will also see a road closure map too http://www.otsegocounty.com/
  5. Nice camp pic's folks. Now I'm really jealous.
  6. The other night I was watching Hells Kitchen and they served a table belonging to the the HSUS. The menu was lobster, squid and chicken. Cant see how they can eat meat and fish and still advocate animal rights.
  7. Have done a great deal of hunting in Dutchess county back in the day. I could walk down Myers Corners road in Wappinger Falls with my shotgun and not get a second look. Was nothing but woods and swamp. Route 9 was basically fields and woods. Oh the memories. Then came all the building along with commercial business which put an end to that era.
  8. I must say, I feel like I'm on taxidermy.net by reading some of these posts because this is how it always ends up in discussion. Wilkie, love the New York Buck. As a NY taxidermist, I can tell you that most if not all deer that come into the shop exhibit no detail. And that's because they are dead. That doesn't mean the deer didn't have some muscle detail when alive. Muscle detail and size of the neck decreases almost instantly after a deer expires. The only time you will see detail in the face area is if mounting deer from the deep south. YES some of us northern taxidermists do go overboard a bit when detailing the face area. I for one am guilty of it. However the muscle detail in the neck and the wrinkles on the back of the deer on a turned mount will be there. The bigger the swell the more detail in the neck. Whether you know it or not most of the deer forms we receive today are sculpted by artists who usually own penned deer and are always studying the anatomy of their captive deer. The problem with this is that no two deer look alike. I have yet to have two deer come into the shop that look the same when it comes to facial features and ears. you have no idea how much altercations and modifications I must make to a form before I can mount up. Just my .02
  9. You know what? I just may give a go this fall until bow season opens. I haven't done any fall turkey hunting in the last 5 years but have the urge this fall. Haven't been seeing too many flocks lately but that might be due to the abundance of the crop this summer within the woods. A lot of birds in my area hatched late.

    Preperation

This will be my 15 year old boy's first year trapping. He went to the state convention earlier this month and picked up some traps and other supplies. he plans on going out this afternoon after school and gps'ing some spots he might want to set at.
  11. I saw a deer just like that the other night near Milford NY. Ribs were showing just as yours.
  12. Correct me if Im wrong, but you dont need to be 150 or even 500 feet from a road to discharge a bow or gun currently. You just cant shoot across a road. Exactly ! Since when do you have to be a certain distance from any public highway to discharge a bow or firearm. Now I am confused.
  13. Awesome pics ! Love them !
  14. It really sucks he turned out like he did.
  15. Your camera takes some good pics.
  16. You can blame NY for the limited access to private lands. Growing up we had many acres of private land in and around our area to hunt. It was a NY program called COOP hunting where the land owners would open their land up for hunting. Signs would be posted that showed the landowners who cooperated with DEC and away you went to hunt. I believe in the late 90's due to budget cuts the program was stopped, closing down thousand of acres of available hunting.
  17. I live in Otsego county near Garrattsville. Where are you ?
  18. I like them, I like them a lot.
