Background Checks
boo711 replied to Millertime1989's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I think it is a crock you have to wait for these checks. But I also know I will not let the king win this one so I will go when I have time to burn. Tell them what I want, they start my background check, and then I shop. I get 99% of all my hunting stuff at bass pro so if I have to spend some extra time browsing no problem. I would not go in there for a private sale and a background check and hope to be out of there in 15 min. Only do it when I have the time. Again I don't like it, but I won't let it discourage me either. -
I got this bow for my 11 year old for x-mas. Very versatile bow. Has a 5-70# weight adjustment and forget what the draw length adjustment is. This is a bow my son will be able to use for years since it can be adjusted so much. A great investment for him

Looking for a backpack
boo711 replied to Hunting3m's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Here is the one I have. Not to big but big enough to hold what I need. I forgot who it was that said Walmart has them. I forgot about them. They usually have a good variety. The closer you get to the season the more stores will have. I was talking to a guy at dicks when I was getting some cleats for my son and he said the won't start getting a lot of stuff in til the middle of august beginning of Sept. -
Looking for a backpack
boo711 replied to Hunting3m's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I got a good backpack a few years ago. Lots of pockets and a big main compartment. I put my tree seat in there and even a turtle neck or some extra socks. The outside pockets I use for my calls, field dressing stuff. I use a few of the pockets for waters and lunch and snacks. I think Imight have paid a little over $60 for it. Got it at herbs. Shop around there are a lot out there. And keep saving some cash, get something you want, something that can hold all the stuff you want to bring in the woods. When I gun hunt I am in the woods from sunrise to sunset. Lots of time before the season starts. Lots of places will be having preseason sales here pretty soon too. -
I have a buddy who owns five at&t stores. My wife & I both have the galaxy s2 and love it. When my son was due for his upgrade last month he wanted the iPhone 5s. My wife and I talked to my buddy and told him that he wanted the iPhone 5s and what he thought. He recommended the galaxy s4 over the iPhone 5s. He also told us the htc1(I think that was what it was as another option) after looking and comparing for a few days we ended up getting him the HTC. He loves it. Really nice phone. I am due for my upgrade in Sept and will be getting the s4

I have been reading this post throughout the day and I figured the best way to get the right answer is to call and ask. I called the DEC in Syracuse and talked to one of the officers there. I asked him why you needed to wear a back tag. His response was for identification purposes. I mentioned what you said about seeing it from a distance and he said if they see you committing an infraction they will nit use binocs to get your number they will approach you. I asked why you did not need tag in nz and Catskill park but needed one in sz. He said that law has been in affect for years and I would have to ask a state legislator because he can't tell me why, just that it is the law. Also told me if your bag tag must be onoutermost garment. Which we know. If you where backpack it must be on backpack. If you take backpack off it must be on jacket. He said they are being told to ticket this automatically now. He is not sure why all of a sudden. He told me Togo and get extras of my back tag and that way I have one for outer garment, my backpack, etc. That way I will not have to. i worry. I don't see the DEC where I gun hunt but I bow hunt a lot of property adjacent to state land. Might need to get some extra back tags. Don't need to get a ticket for something stupid like that.

Don't want to move the fence. The lawn out behind there is mostly weeds and it can be very wet which is why this issue arose. With the fence I don't have to look at it. Lol. I'll let him look at it now. I'll be waiting til it is good and dry before I mow out there.

Good article. Valid points. -
Nope. No mullet.

I can laugh about it now. I just wanted him to stop so I could ask him why he would mow my lawn and turn it into a mud pit. Pissed me off he wouldn't stop. Lol

Want to get some other opinions on an issue I had happen today. I have a fenced in yard but I have some of my yard that is extended out back farther from the fenced in portion. This part of my yard borders a neighbors property. I have lived in my home for 10 yrs and have only had one chance to speak to this neighbor and I politely introduced myself and he blew me off. So I never went out of my way to try and make chit chat. Always waved if I saw him driving down the street but that's it. Anyways last week he mowed my property out behind the fence with his riding mower and I was totally shocked when I saw this. Turned it all to mud. I talked to my next door neighbor last week who Is a retired cop. He tells me not to approach him on his property. Today I am out with weed whacker so I can mow lawn and I see him mowing. I tell him I have not been mowing that because it is so wet and I point to the mess he has made and how my lawn is now mud. He looks at me, says he will never come on my property again and tells me f-you and drives away. This pisses me off. If it had been dry and he wanted to mow it like he has done in the past, knock your socks off. But what kind of person can not see the damage you are doing to someone else's property. I tried asking him that because at this point I am fired up but all he kept doing was telling me was f-you as he drove by. I guess I am just wondering if I am wrong to assume that someone would see what they are doing to someones lawn and not mow it or is this guy just a complete idiot. If I was to mow anyone's property and saw I was doing damage to it I would stop immediately. Am I right to assume that is the right thing to do??

I have a weaver scope on the Ithaca deer slayer my dad gave me. Gun was bought in 73. Scope probably 5 or 6 years after that. Have never had any issues with it. I just need to see some deer in the woods to put the cross hairs on.

I also use the cva barrel blaster. I run a wire brush through first then the barrel blaster. Let it sit for 30 min or more then run some patches through there. Let it sit a bit then oil it all up to be put away til the next time. It the best thing I have used.

I do a good share of my bow hunting at 3 rivers. Especially during the week as I only live about a mile & a 1/2 away. It is not to bad to hunt. Can get a little busy on the weekends especially during pheasant season but nothing really crazy. Lot of spots there to hunt and some you can really get off the beaten path and get back in some spots that a lot of people don't want to walk to. I will rarely gun hunt there though. Maybe the last week of season or during muzzleloader just to get out. But it can get pretty crazy the first few weeks of gun. As for asking a landowner for permission I have gotten to knows lot of very nice people by just going up and knocking on the door. My family has quite a few parcels of land we hunt in in Penn yan. My dad started hunting there about 40 yrs ago right after I was born. I have lists with peoples names that are property owners. Some I have there kids names because they have passed away and there kids now own the land. I make it a point to call them a few times a year and I go down there to say hello and visit. I have been asking one gentlemen for over 15 yrs to hunt his land. Tells me no every year because he has family that hunt it, who I have gotten to know by meeting them in the woods. But he invites me in every year for a cup of coffee and visit with him. Maybe someday if his family doesn't come to hunt I can hunt it. If not I get a ouple cups of coffee and a visit with a local who knows a lot about the area and maybe other land owners. Knock on some doors, great way to meet people and the worst they can say is no. I don't know how many times people have been so impressed I stopped to ask they had no issues giving me permission to hunt there

Thinking about trying some new broad heads this year. I am currently shooting 75 gr mini blasters. The arrows I am shooting are Easton epic 400. I know there are a bunch of broadheads out there, will probably get a bunch of different opinions. I am heading to bass pro tonight so my son can buy a case for his bow and was going to take a look so just wanted to see what people think.

14 year old kid - Best bang for the buck bow setup
boo711 replied to jkzfixme's topic in Bow Hunting
I bought my son a bow tech infinite edge for x-mas. It has a 5-70# adjustment and a draw length adjustment of 13-30 in. He has 1 more year to wait til he can bow hunt but with a years worth of practice he will be ready. I bought this bow for him so he will not get used to shooting a bow and then need another one to hunt. Dealer said the next bow he gets will be one he buys. I like that. Came with rest, sight, quiver and self aligning peep sight. A really nice bow and package. And he loves it and loves to shoot. I like that! -
Thanks Early!

Thanks Grow I will have to check that out. I was thinking a 6. I have a whole box of shells at home, drawing a blank on the shot size. Think it is 7 1/2. Would that work do you think?

Looking for a little help here. My son wants to go turkey hunting with me this year. I have never really been, just a couple of times to get out in the woods so just curious what shot size most people use? I figure now that I have a hunting partner who will be able to hunt in a few years I should get into this. It always looks interesting when I watch it on TV. And the way people on here talk about it makes it seem real exciting I will be hunting with a browning a-5 12 gaugewith a full choke. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you think this cold weather they are predicting for this weekend will slow things down or not?

Just had a friend send this to me on Facebook. From the NY gun owners unite page. Gov Cuomo has started a $500 reward for people who call in tips about people or there neighbors who are in violation of the safe act. I will try posting it on here

Feinstein's ban is out?
boo711 replied to ants's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I got an email today at 3:52 from Sen. Rand paul saying that the big things are universal background checks and mental health issues. Want complete background checks on all firearm sales so they can track exactly who has what kind of guns and how many. He also says 46.6% of Americans are diagnosed with some sort of mental issue. If that happens fed gov't wants it so you get firearms taken away for life. I don't know how I get these emails, they always go to my spam but I get a few from him every day. Probably from some poll or gun repeal form I filled out. I haven't seen anything concrete of what happened today but wanted to pass this along -
I used to own a house and some land that bordered state land. I hung a stand once 2 days before gun season opened. Went to the spot opening morning and all that was there was my chain and lock on the ground. Ive used a climber ever since. But I know some guys that have had no problems leaving them. Guess it all depends on the guy that is walking through the woods and sees it. I was under the impression you couldn't leave stands up on state land. Icouldbe wrong though. I know you can't use tree pegs though or trim any branches. Was with a buddy once when we got stopped on our way out of woods one sat morning. He got a ticket for using the tree pegs on state land.
