boo711 replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
Good luck everyone. Probably going to be about a week before my son and I can get out, suck s it's a beautiful morning out there. Hoping to see some nice pics!!! Be safe!!!! -
I'm looking for a good venison chilli recipe if any one is willing to share. Looking for something that has a little kick but doesn't set the mouth on fire so it is not enjoyable to eat. I seem to have mis placed my recipe and just wanted to see if someone else had a pretty good recipe to try

Nice buck! A great way to start the season. Congrats!!!

My son & I both got ours on the 19th. Hope people that want to use theres starting tomorrow get them. Not sure what takes so long for them all to be sent out. They have it in there system who is a lifetime license holder, you would think they would have those printed and ready to mail the day licenses go on sale.

My wife and I had spray foam insulation done on the house we built last year. Best decision we made for the home. Had our furnace set at 62 all winter and walked around in shorts and a tshirt. No cold drafts felt at all. Even with all the snow we got last winter we did not have 1 icicle on the house. Last week when it was in the upper 80's we didn't even turn the A/C on and it never got above 72 in the house. It is pricey to install but the savings on your fuel bill will be well worth it. With the big push on energy efficiency etc I think they should make it mandatory in all new home construction.

Go Purple Eagles!!! I spent 4 great years there!! Congrats To your daughter!!!

We just had a new house built. Picked everything we wanted. No projects around house to worry about til spring so that can't start any issues. Spent the whole weekend in old forge on the snowmobile. Another couple of weekends of that and I may have some issueS though. Lol

Had one on my neck last day of bow down in 8R. At least one person in our hunting group gets one on them when we hunt down there. Always do a tick check when I get home from hunting down there. Hate them things

Wow. Haven't been on here in a while but had a few minutes at work so hopped on. Wish you all worked nights. This would keep me occupied all night

That is a beautiful buck!! Congratulations!!!!!

Don't get nervous. But I have been making my check list tonight at work to make sure I don't forget anything. Plus my son is going with us to bow hunt Friday and sit with someone in our group Saturday & sunday. Need to make sure he is prepared to sit all day. So I have to prepare myself and him. I figure a week ahead is plenty of time to get the bags packed. I don't know who is more excited between the two of us!!

I went Saturday and when I couldn't get any for 8R I just said forget it. Called my town clerk today and she said they were available. I went right down and got 2. Out the door in 5 minutes. Sucks people were told they were not available for the areas they wanted and got them for other areas only to have the areas they wanted available on Monday. DEC dropped the ball on this one

Finally got all unpacked last weekend after the move into new house. Washed mine and my son's hunting clothes monday and hung them on the line at my parents house. Unfortunately it rained monday and Tuesday night and not looking to good for the rest of the week either. We are ready to hit the woods this weekend but need to get clothes dried. Anyone ever use the dryer w/out a dryer sheet of course to dry there hunting clothes? Just didn't know if using dryer sheets with regular clothes a couple times a week would leave a scent that could get picked up by hunting clothes if you use a dryer to dry them. Always dried my on the line so have never had to use the dryer before.

Just moved into my new house yedterday. Going to call the sheriffs office this morning when I get home from work to notify them of my new address. During the course of my move I have misplaced 2 credit cards and my pistol permit. Do they offer replacement permits or do you need to reapply for the permit? Thanks for any info you can give me

You did the right thing. The first deer I got was a doe that I literally walked up on opening day of gun when I was 16. She was laying on the edge of a thicket, bleating and moving her legs back and forth trying to get up. I was close enough to reach out and touch and she couldn't get up to run away, a weird feeling comes into your stomach at that point. The leaves and dirt had been completely cleared out from around where she was laying. I ended her suffering and used the tag. When skinning it we found an arrow lodged in her front left shoulder. Meat was all green with infection. I got another tag but even if I didn't get a replacement I can look back almost 30 years later and feel good I made a good decision. Not the way any of us want to put meat on the table but the sportsman in you made a great decision!!!

Ok so I'm looking for some thoughts here. I've got an area that I have hunted for 20+ years behind my uncles house. For the last few years there has been talk of building houses back there. Well in the last few months they have cleared 1/2 the wood lot leaving a parcel in the back of the field that is owned by someone else and will not be cleared. We are in the process of building a house so I was not planning on hunting until the weekend of the 25th since we will be moving this weekend. But when I got out of work sunday morning it was to nice to pass up so I stopped at my uncles, threw my stuff on and headed to my spot. I only had about an hour and a half to 2 hours to hunt since I had to be back to work late Sunday afternoon so I didn't bring my climber I just went to the tree I usually use. I am about 30 yards into the woods from the back of the field. There are 2 rows of pine trees about 15 and 25 yds in that run parallel to the field edge and run the whole length of the field. Since I went in at dark I didn't see it til I was on my way out but there is a good size scrape less than 10 feet from the tree I have used for my climber for over 10 years. My question is, would you try to find another tree or would you take a chance and just hunt from that tree being so close? I'm going to try and get a trail cam up this week over looking scrape if I get a chance. Just hate to have to try to find a good tree in the dark plus worry about shooting lanes and doing cutting this late in the season. Any thoughts? Again I won't be hunting this spot for at least a week and a half and might only be able to get out once or twice a weekend for the remainder of bow season.

DEC website says Oct 1 is the deadline every year for permits. So does that mean 9/30 at midnight is the deadline or Oct 1 at midnight? I always thought Oct 1st was the last day to get them????
-
I guess that solves that dilemma. Lol. I was thinking for some reason Oct 1 was the last day to get them. I confused myself I guess.

Going to take my son today to get his license for the first time. Going to get him small game & the jr bow hunter license. My question is if he gets a dmp can they be signed over to me or someone else in the family that could use them during gun season? My wife and I are having a house built and it is looking like we are going to be closing on the house on Oct 14 which means my son and I will probably not be hitting the woods until the last weekend in October. Just wondering if I should hold off on getting hit the dmp's or get them and have him sign them over if possible for gun season if possible. I heard or read somewhere that jr bow hunter can not sign them over. I don't see him getting three deer in the matter of a couple of weeks. What do you guys think??

Snowmobile equipment
boo711 replied to dirt_a_KISS's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I have a ski - doo modular helmet. One of the originals. I have had it for 12 years. I have NEVER had an issue with my shield foggy up. Your breath is vented right out of the helmet. I like it so much I have another new one still in the box in the closet. Nothing is worse and can ruin your ride quicker than a shield fogging up. There are a ton of good jackets and bibs and gloves on the market these days. I don't think you can go wrong with a majority of the stuff, unfortunately I feel you get what you pay for. I bought a lot of gear and still do at the big east power sports show at the on center in Syracuse. They have great deals there from a lot of dealers. Some of the jackets or bibs may be last year's models but I know I saved almost $100 on my jacket and over $150 on my helmet. Definitely a lot of deals there if you have to buy everything. You want to buy stuff that is good. I rode a lot of days last year where the temperature didn't get above 10°. Good luck with everything!! And think snow!!!!
