I rarely do it anymore.......I used to but I had the use of a couple coolers years ago and without them it's difficult. My shed faces south and can really heat up so I usually butcher within a couple days. AND, I grind almost everything but the backstraps and some stew meat. But is there a big difference, no. Can it make a difference, yes I think so. Years ago I had a friend (now deceased) and we hung deer for 14 days with the hide on and I think it helped quite a bit. -

I would have added that I didn't want to overwhelm the members..........LOL Your addition is spot on. Then throw in the possibility of sub freezing temps and you come up with two more issues; if that hide freezes to the meat you're screwed, blued and tattoo'd. You'll have to get the deer to thaw out and that can be a PIA. Also, the aging process halts when frozen. -
I'm pretty sure I'll be using a 7mm-08.......I thought about taking the 300WSM but it only takes two in the belly when the 7mm-08 takes three. It shouldn't make much difference if I do my part. Maybe I'm overthinking it? LOL

That's great to hang them that long in those temps but folks should know that doing so WITHOUT the hide results in a fair amount of meat lost to trimming as the outer layer dries out PDQ. After trimming it's perfect though..... -
Taking a walk is great for the people around you.....cause you're just going to push deer to guys like me that sit tight all day the first day. Heck, as long as Mother Nature doesn't call for the big one, I don't get down from my climber at all Opening Day. If she does, I shimmy down and shimmy right back up. As others have said, don't over think it. I doubt I'll know where I'm going until the night before........then I just toss a dart or check (in desperation) a ouija board.

In East Aurora this morning. Snow in the air and the light wind is perfect. Nothing yet but some squirrel. -
You guys talking about leaving your scoped guns behind and toting a gun with open sights on rainy or snowy days ever heard of Butler Creek lens caps? Lol, look ‘em up.

I guess we’re all in it for different reasons. You do realize the vast majority of deer killed each year (especially in the SZ) are killed the first day? -
Sweet......rhymes with?? Love that “local” company.

What’s this new bow you speak of??

Huge bummer.....that said, one time on the last morning for me to bow hunt I prepared to climb down. I grabbed my haul line off a limb and hooked the hook to the axle. Well, I guess I didn't hook it on.......I went to lower it and just dropped it STRAIGHT down to terra firma. Damn, WTH did I just do? The bow was fine probably because I was hunting the pines and the forest floor pretty soft. I took it in and had new string and cables put anyway. Hopefully your nephew's bow is salvageable....... -
You named your (beautiful dog) Rooster? I bet that made for some confusing times in the field......
-
I've posted this picture before and it hasn't a thing to do with favorite or "best" dogs but it's my personal favorite hunting dog action picture........
-
Finally we can agree on something.......

Deer, NOT fish.......... The buck I shot with the bow was a heavy horned, heavy bodied specimen. I asked the taxidermist to please save the jaw because I've always been curious about the age of the deer I shoot. This buck APPEARS to be quite old as seen in the attached pictures. I've got other lower jaws from bigger bucks I've killed and this one is considerably different. Today I ordered the deer aging kit from deerage.com and will be sending in the (I believe) front lower mandible. It'll take 90 days to get the results but I will update when I find something out. Thoughts or WAG are welcome......

I heard Tom D. Many times refer to “Blue Magic” and Lee in the same sentence. Puts a real smile on my face.....

Lol, finish your coffee then run like heck to get the blind home!!

These winds are going to play havoc on your blinds. Hopefully they’re staked down good or better yet still in your garage.

I’ve had a Cabela’s 3/4hp unit for about 5 years now. 100% satisfied with it.....
-
Not a chance.....lol

Kinda looks like a deer farm buck, no? Anonymous? No "in the field" hero shot? And no obligatory camo clad hunter shots? Congrats?
