From all the miles of carrying the stock is starting to get buffed to a high sheen, Charlie. Another couple years it'll be on par with a Weatherby...........it MUST be stopped NOW.

That isn't out of the question and I've been checking out a couple Youtube clips on it. Those guys are serious. Many moons ago I did a couple of my guns and a bow, they held up pretty good but did chip after a bit. Some primer, OD green, brown and maybe gray could be the ticket. Maybe some ferns and stale oak leaves for style points?
-
How many of those have you done rob? How long ago and how is it holding up?

It crossed my mind until I saw a couple used SBE's on Cabela's web site......... http://www.cabelas.com/product/benelli-sbe-ii-left-hand-semi-auto-12-gauge-shotgun-max-5-camo-factory-new/2311935.uts?Ntk=GunLibrary&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26No%3D20%26Ntk%3DGunLibrary%26Ntt%3Dleft%252Bhand%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_st%3D%26WTz_stype%3DSP%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D20%26search%3Dleft%252Bhand%26searchTypeByFilter%3DGunLibrary%26x%3D16%26y%3D9&Ntt=left%2Bhand http://www.cabelas.com/product/benelli-super-black-eagle-ii-left-hand-12-ga/2278455.uts?Ntk=GunLibrary&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26No%3D40%26Ntk%3DGunLibrary%26Ntt%3Dleft%252Bhand%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WTz_st%3D%26WTz_stype%3DSP%26form_state%3DsearchForm%26recordsPerPage%3D20%26search%3Dleft%252Bhand%26searchTypeByFilter%3DGunLibrary%26x%3D16%26y%3D9&Ntt=left%2Bhand My old girl will HAVE to do.

OK, I'm giving in. After 15 or 16 years I'm going to get my Benelli SBE camo dipped. Anybody ever had one done? How about Tarjac, used them? Other places maybe closer to Buffalo? (if I could save some coin on shipping that'd be fine with me as long as the local guy has good references) Thanks for the replies................

Nice to see the two birthday boys show up. One might be sober................
-
Good information here! I don't have to worry though, I know my Garcia Vega English Coronas are the REAL deal. Right off the rez..................
-
I saw four bucks Saturday afternoon at my buddies, they were all sporting thick "splitting maul" handle beams. A couple surely are 3.5+ years old.........
-
Nice job!

Hey Red & Tim................Happy Birthday guys!!!!!

Sad deal PB, give us another chance.

My plan failed.........................if it was a war, I'd be waving the white flag. One step out of camp and I new it'd be tough, the wind was stiff! Oh well, might as well continue with my plan. I made a long sweep around the backside of where they should be roosting. Everything went good on the approach and I sat down in the dark, waiting on the first gobbles. It was a long wait...........nothing on their own are even with my prodding. Dang........nothing with the owl hooter or crow call, the new mouth call will have to do it. CRAP, I left it in the truck! At the end of the day yesterday I set it on the passenger seat of my truck while I guzzled water. I made a few swipes on the box and got nothing. I hauled my butt up and out, grabbed the mouth call and stuffed it in my pocket. Plan B............start hitting other known areas. Heard three or four gobbles from a bird way to my north. There was a deep ravine between us so I decided to go high and swing around to his side of the ravine. Never heard the SOB again! At one other spot I heard ONE gobble after a twenty minutes of walking and calling. The problem is he gobbled to my CROW call, not one of my turkey calls! A live crow had just drifted over my head and I thought I'd rock his world with a couple quick blasts. Ha, the joke was on me when the turkey sounded off maybe 125 yards away. I stuck it out for thirty minutes without making a single call, thinking he may be coming in silent. After the 30 minute wait I let rip with a few quiet slate calls. Nothing....... OK, mouth call. Nothing.......... That my friends signaled the end of my weekend turkey hunting. It was now about 10:00am and my dogs were barking.

If I had the writing ability to put this morning in words, you absolutely would not believe it. In a VERY small nutshell, I had a pair of adults inside of 40 yards for a good portion of 4 (four) hours. I had a head pass by at 25 yards and couldn't get on him due to too thick of a spot. All morning I was in crappy spots because of posted land/neighbor relations etc. I moved three times over 600 yards and they'd come to each spot. I had two at 40 or less yards and a couple branches were in the way. I THOUGHT they'd come 6" more but no dice..... Another spot they were going absolutely crazy, gobbling to motorcycles, cars, crows, gun shots et. I couldn't get them to come into the precise spot I needed. Maybe I can get them figured out better in the morning; I have a plan.

Bingo, nothing too it....... Congratulations!!
-
Keep 'em; we've got rats, coons and skunks.

I'm not positive that I've ever seen a porcupine in New York State........PA, yes but NYS I don't think so.
-
NOW it's all clear why you like Ted's Hotdogs so much.

Hey, I almost forgot......I picked up a shed today, the post above reminded me! I didn't scrutinize it closely, I just grabbed it and tossed it in the back of the vest. IIRC it is a half a four point and it wasn't from this past year. Tomorrow night I'll try and remember to grab it and snap a quickie.

Man what a cool sliver of moon this morning! Heavy fog along Rt 78 slowed my travels but as I gained some elevation on the road the fog was nonexistent, letting me see the moon off to the east. Unfortunately it was the highlight of my morning............ Nice temperature and very light winds made for good condition but I never heard a peep.

IIRC Dick Kirby told a story about getting raked by a "almost" dead Tom and the ensuing gouge took stiches to close up!

Well, that was easily the wettest I've ever been turkey hunting. It's never rained like that (that I remember anyway) in 35 years of opening days. Put the rain pants on right off the bat.....eased down into the woods and waited. 1st gobble was around 5:45. Gobbled real good, flew down and beat feet................no love for me. Hit another spot and had nothing exciting. Two buddies killed birds in the area and one of the two guys killed a bird yesterday in Pennsylvania also, all three birds were adults. I walked a ton and hunted until 11:30 before pulling the pin. Everything is drenched, had to empty my vest, wash stinky & muddy clothes and tear down the SBE for a fluff and buff. Next time I'll get 'em!!
-
Not surprised at the outcome....... Nice job! Don't wait until you kill bird number two to come visit us.
-
For the first time in many years I went out to try and roost one. Ended up hearing two! One high and one low.......now it'll pour for sure.
