Mr. Pickle, my friend could care less what size the rack is. WTF do you think he should do with a 150" buck if he shot one? He toss the rack in his garage with the 50-75 other bucks he has killed in his lifetime. Sure, he has mounted a few over the years but he sure as balls ain't going to stuff anymore at his age! What do you purpose he do, stay home? Maybe he should just kill a doe or two?? Guess what; he will shoot what HE wants to. VAR. Remember those three little letters.............

Remember......VAR. Voluntary Antler Restrictions

We have an older gentleman in camp too, 84 years old. He will be corking the first buck he sees......good for him!!
-
I think some real hogs are coming to the big screen tomorrow. Good luck to you an moog!!
-
When do we get to kill them, at what age? 2.5 and up?

How 'bout THIS...............................If your birthday year ends in an odd number you only hunt odd number years. Conversely, a birthday year the is even gives you the PRIVILEGE to hunt even years. Sounds like a winner. Start editing the next years syllabus.....................

Hey cool deal B. Good luck and enjoy you're stay. Putting any resumes out to local companies while in town??

I know many have already left for camp or will be leaving tomorrow, maybe some will leave from home Saturday or just hunting your own backyard. If by chance you do cork a good deer; buck or doe, take some pics and be sure to hang them here for all to see. Enjoy the camaraderie of your family and friends if you are fortunate to be able to share time with them this weekend, you never know what tomorrow will bring. So be safe because that is ALL that matters, then shoot straight.

No such scope in the Leupold lineup.

As you mentioned, many guys/gals never got to hunt opening day or maybe all of the first week. So what you are proposing isn't really the same thing.....see these guys would have hunted their azz off if they COULD have. The length of the season doesn't have much if anything to do with this. The fact is thousands DID NOT hunt opening day. THAT is why there appears to be more older bucks sporting better racks, NOT the length of the season. Lets say they shortened the season by a week. Do you think that wil save deer? Heck no, guys will hunt harder and maybe kill the first buck they see rather than pass a dink up since they have limited days. Bang goes the spiker.......................

What gun is that, Tikka? Sure doesn't look like a 7600.........
-
Sure sounds like a neat gun, Dan. I'm also looking forward to pics..............

Ding Ding Ding...........................winner. I had a nice chat yesterday with a DEC biologist in Buffalo. Voluntary Antler Restrictions...........what a wonderful concept. You'll soon be seeing "VAR" bumper stickers in your area. Keep pushing it; it IS catching on.

Deer hunting isn't just about opening day, is it? "Deer Season" is what many here wait for all year. So shut the deer season down during the rut? Awesome experience right there............ Tennis anyone?
-
What exactly is the problem here in NYS? Too few deer? Too few big bucks?

Gun of a lifetime dissapointment

What in God's name does this have to do with the OP? -
Lots of folks don't get as much time off as some of the more fortunate ones here and can only hunt weekends. Heck if the weather is crappy on a couple weekends they really get boned then don't they? How about a pile of crappy weather......snow, wind, rain etc? How'd that go over in these shortened seasons? I don't think the DEC would find any benefit to shortening any seasons and neither would the hunters. It isn't all about BIG BUCKS, is it? I hope like hell it isn't.......................

Good questions. I think the answer to your second question would be "peanuts".

Why not take up golf or a great indoor sport like tennis?

What bullet are you using this season

7mm-08 is loaded with 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and .243 has 80gr Barnes TTSX. -
Hardly any on the buck. The doe I don't remember........

I have two haul lines; one for the weapon and one for the pack. The pack generally stays on the ground when not being dug through for something to eat, wear or smoke. How high has many variables........too tough to describe each situation. One thing to keep in mind; the higher you go, the skinnier the tree gets and that can screw up the angle of your bottom stand section (platform). The seat section can be easily adjusted at any height but NOT the platform. Dangerous stuff to attempt! Face mask for hiding my big white puss and for warmth. Luck to you newbie!!
