    peep sight

Nice going Red! Love the pic with your little boy.............
  2. Killed a beauty this morning, my best archery buck ever. 13 points, 18.5" inside-21.5" outside spreads and 205 pounds dressed and witnessed. Killed him in East Aurora. Perfect shot (although I'd have been pleased with JUST a double lung) dead center in the heart. He went probably 150 yards before expiring..........on the neighbors land! I made a quick phone call to the neighbor and they denied permission to drag him to their driveway so we had a longer more difficult pull a head of us. "Us" is the extra help I called in; a friend and his son from Hamburg. I'd have had to scramble for more distant recruits if they couldn't make it!! It was about all we could do to drag him back to the truck but we got it done.
  3. I'm gonna grab some popcorn..........................................
  4. You SOB (Sweet Old Bill) HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
  5. Small world.......there is a boat EXACTLY like this one on the local Craigslist but it's going for more money!!
  6. RealTree Ez Hang..........the longest one that DOES NOT fold twice. I'd like to to grab one of the short ones to keep on hand for a stand that might or might not have one of the longer ones in it. I think it's only happened once or twice in many years that I'd jump into a stand, only to find out I had no bow hanger. Let me tell you, holding onto my bow (with quiver attached of course) for more than 5 minutes is akin to some kind of nasty punishment........................
  7. In a pinch, you can take some lug nuts from each of the other three "good" wheels. ALWAYS watch where that flying tire goes, maybe you can save a tow.
  8. I gave you a "like" for this post but of course it's only because you have taken care of the Dr things and are on the mend. We'll keep you in our thoughts.............
  9. See harvest thread for outcome.................................
  10. So the wind was perfect for the "Sure Thing" stand. Up and in position, bow hauled up, arrow knocked, put shooting release on hand, hear a couple footfalls to the west, spot doe. No way........I JUST got in the stand 60 seconds earlier.........................OK, I'll participate. She doesn't follow the script exactly though, she heads to the base of the stand. A couple whiffs of me and she takes two quick jumps towards where she came from. I had the bow drawn before she even stopped, figuring she'd stop and take a peek at the blob in the branches........FFFffttt..,. the arrow is gone and right in the boiler room. She sprints away and I hear her crash about 60 yards from me. I can't see her but I'm confident she is down...................................I decide to leave her be until 9:30 or so, planning on the arrival of a buck at some point. Well, around 8;15 I see a red fox sneaking up on the approx. spot she went down. He figured he had a freebie coming! He must have gnawed away on her for about 20 minutes when all of a sudden I see him/her sneaking towards me with something in it's mouth. WTH man, it's the tail from my doe!! Honest injun...... I got a little Iphone video to substantiate the theft. Here is the doe................
  11. One of my best hunting buddies hunted that way for many years across Lake Erie from Buffalo at Point Abino Canada. He called it "sneak shooting". When he first arrived, usually AFTER all the early morning duck hunters had been on the water for a few hours, he'd row out into the bay and set his spread of dekes. Then he'd row back to shore, haul the boat up on the beach and start drinking his coffee right out in the open. Soon a flock of bluebills would light in and land in the spread. Tom would chug the rest of his 3x cream & sugar coffee, cork up the Thermos and push the boat back into the swells. The sneak boat (yea, he made it from scratch) would then be slowly paddle out into the swells towards the unsuspecting ducks as he was hunkered down behind the hinged screen. When he would get within range of the birds he'd give one more hard shove on the paddle and then set the it down in the belly of the boat. Then, slowly he would grab the old humpback Browning light 12. As the boat was now among the birds he'd push the muzzle of the gun into the screen, folding it down and come up on the birds. The handloaded Peters Blue Magic hulls would fly! Back in the early days lead shot and 8 bird limits were the big draw to the Canadian hunting. That, good people & nostalgia were what made Tom happy. Tom carved all his own decoys in the day and had a 50 bird spread that today would be valuable to collectors but they aren't for sale. He may have given a couple away to very close friends but I just don't recall and would never ask. Often times he'd invite a friend along, they'd take turns sneaking in and limits were very common. Soon the Canadian's imposed steel shot and limits were lowered and Tom spent more time at his farm in Arcade, NY. Sadly, he was done with this type of hunting when we first met in early 1986. Then tradition archery grabbed him and hasn't let go!! Making sneak boats, carving decoys, loading metallic and shot shells, tying flies, building bamboo fly rods, recurve bows, long bows and HUNDREDS of the finest cedar shafts are just some of the things he has perfected as a hobby while earning a living as an artist. His full name is Thomas Aquinas Daly. Sorry for all the unrelated stuff but I'm proud to call him a friend........
  12. I had a feeling Vince had the biggest..................
  13. And the trigger was never pulled on flying ducks, just those sitting ON the water.
  14. Ahhhh.....so THAT'S what they look like!
  15. That would have been the easy way out and I (almost) never take the easy way out.
  16. I'd like to think I have a sure thing the next time I hit the woods, a south or southwest wind is what I'll need to get 'er done though. I had to hang another stand just 30 yards north west of a long time producing archery stand due to the damn deer NOT following the script like they used to. You see, they have started to use a seldom used trail the goes within 2' of the base of my old stand. Yupper, two feet. I had a little 6pt do it last week and enough others over the years that I needed to make a change. I left the "killer" stand in place, just added the new one. Sure thing? Probably not but it's fun to dream.................................talk to me in a week, or less.
  17. Condolences to you & your family gfdeputy2.
  18. Caps? Heck yes!! I bought my first compound there in the early 80's EXCEPT back then they were on Sheridan Drive, near Harlem. later they moved over to Niagara Falls Blvd. gastrodoc: Did you live in the area or go to school in BUffalo?
  19. Yikes......I have no idea! Legally I started bow hunting as a Junior Archer the first year it was legal, 1976. I was 15 at the time. I say legally because when I was younger my buddy and I walked around with our Bear fiberglass bows and one arrow, tipped with a Bear Razorhead. Of course the arrow was knocked........... We hunted everything and anything but never killed anything bigger than a 'coon. As far as arrows go, started with Port Ortford Cedar shafts, by Bear. Then some Microflight fiberglass shafts, then Easton Gamegetters, Easton XX75 Autumn Orange, Kustom King cedar shafts, Easton ACC and now GoldTip XT Hunters. Whew.........I need to get a hobby. Oh......edit to add I never killed a deer with the bow until about 1979, I think. Could have been 1980 but I'm foggy on it now. And of course it was a button buck.........
  20. Looks good.....where are you located? (general area, not way points)
